260 Checking the Balance
”This is strange! It’s not some sinister thing… Why can’t I take this out?”

Chen Fan shook the bank card mysteriously. ”Are you implying that this card is not worth a farthing, compared to yours?”

He looked Chen Fan in the eyes, his look appearing to reply for him an adamant, Of course.

Feeling that he had regained the advantage in the debate, he said, ”What is a bank card? It is a symbol of identity. Take this card, for example, only customers who had reached a certain level of assets and received invitations to China Merchants Bank could apply for it. With this card, you can enjoy airport VIP services, global medical services, top party salons, golf clubs, etcetera. And, what about your card? All you really get is a measly 5 percent discount on QQ coins top-ups!”

After listening to his words, the two staff members looked at him with admiration, to the point that they completely forgot to serve a middle-aged couple, who had just entered the store. Fortunately, there was more than one staff in the store. The foreman in front of the cashier rushed over to help, while glaring at the two staff members. He then put on a smile to serve the two customers.

Frankly, to be a staff member in a luxury store like Hermes, one must meet a certain standard of beauty and temperament. In this age, when beauty is scarce, the number of men who pursue staff positions there was enough for a basketball match only, not enough for a football match.

It is fair to wonder why the two staff members, who were already in their twenties, be so interested in a kid? There was an age gap of six or seven years between the latter and the pair, and such an age gap is way too large to form any real relationship.

The middle-aged couple were undoubtedly super-rich. Their tastes were naturally much more refined than ordinary people. When he accidentally glanced at the bank card, the husband froze. Thinking her husband’s lewd nature was acting up again, the wife hit his arm maliciously, while her eyes moved back and forth between him and the staff members.

Realizing that he had been wronged, the middle-aged man immediately whispered something in her ear. The expression in the wife’s eyes gradually changed from one of violence to surprise. She asked him what kind of child could bring an unlimited credit card for shopping!

”How should I know?” The middle-aged man shrugged his shoulders. ”How much trust must his parents have in him! If I gave this card to my son, he’d probably come home with a Porsche!”

As most teens are not mature enough to adequately handle social circumstances, they tend to show off with all of their might. Even Yun Meng’s serious face was ignored by him.

”Huang Xia, why are you so annoying?” Yun Meng was very angry, and she stared at him with a pair of watery eyes. Her fairy-like appearance caught the eyes of the middle-aged man. No matter how hard his wife hit his arm, she could not get his attention back.

Yun Meng did not know how wealthy exactly Chen Fan was, but this did not hinder her from trusting in him. At least, with his having luxury cars that cost 40 million each, he was surely above anyone else. Then again, even if Chen Fan had no money at all, Huang Xia, who spoke glib words all the time, still had no right to sneer him.

Huang Xia finally sensed that his crush was in a violent rage. This sent him into a panic.

He ran to her with his mouth full of boastful words, ”Yun Meng, which one do you like? I will buy it for you, as a gift for your helping me to choose a purse for my sister.”

Before Yun Meng could make a statement, he was preempted by a staffer with a nice body. She, with her enthusiasm and patience, relentlessly introduced Huang Xia to all kinds of leather bags. What’s more, in the process, she almost pushed her chest onto Huang Xia.

Huang Xia was greatly flustered by this! In fact, he was a total mess!

Chen Fan sighed helplessly. After seeing that Yun Meng had selected the purse, he suggested that she should pick a few clothes for spring, since the weather was getting warmer. There was a small interlude during the process.

Yun Meng noticed a brown-yellow men’s casual leather jacket at this time. With a soft, tender voice, she affectionately asked Chen to try on the jacket.

”This is the latest model of the year,” said the smiling staffer. ”If you don’t like it, we can measure your figure and make the cut in Paris. The fabric material is optional and completely your choice.”

Chen Fan did not have the time to wait for his outfit to be custom-made! He grabbed the jacket from Yun Meng’s hand and tried it on, without even asking about the price. This jacket was designed by top designers. As such, it was not ugly, of course.

Yun Meng felt that his coolness had dramatically increased by 50 percent after wearing it. The middle-aged man was attracted to it too, and could not help but praise this choice of attire.

”Try pulling the zipper up!” Like a wife helping her husband out with his tie, Yun Meng subconsciously stepped forward to help him with the zipper.

Huang Xia was dispirited as he saw this. After all, taking care of the details of each other’s clothes is something that’s done by cohabiting couples usually. It’s a somewhat intimate thing!

Bang!

At that moment, a crisp sound that only metal could produce swayed on the white marble floor. Huang Xia refocused his dull eyes. Upon seeing the black card that had just dropped from the clothing between Yun Meng’s elbow, he was confused.

Although he recognized the three silver safe keys on the card’s surface as being the UBS logo, the unique sound of the metal and the traditional Han cloud pattern were unfamiliar to him.

Huang Xia didn’t know what it was. The staff thought it was a VIP card, launched by a club or a chain store. Only the middle-aged man felt that it was not just any ordinary card. The card had already been picked up by Yun Meng, who was putting it back in the pocket, but still, his forehead wrinkled, as if he was lost in deep thought.

”Checkout!” Chen Fan swayed his Alipay card in front of the staffer.

”Yes sir, please follow me!” Below that perfect professional smile, the staffer’s heart was a bit stirred up. This was their first time having seen someone pay using an ordinary bank card.

How much money does he have?

Wanting to make trouble, Huang Xia casually grabbed a purse that cost 5,000 yuan. He went to the payment counter to pass his card along first, so that Yun Meng and that guy could know how rich he was.

After the password was entered into the computerized Union Pay machine, both the client and the shop could view the balance inside the card by default, which makes the process of checking out easier for both clients. Of course, the consumer could also call the bank customer service to disable this function, should they desire to do so.
