The Golem Mage

Chapter 354: Protect The City

The captain could only watch helplessly as the Orcs summoned by the Tier 7 Orc descended upon the city’s barrier like a horde of beasts.

With there every strike, they demonstrated an unwavering determination as if their lives depended on penetrating the barrier.

But despite the continuous trembling their strikes caused , the barrier showed no immediate signs of giving way.

However, the captain knew that the energy of the barrier wouldn’t be able to hold for another hour if this continued.

He felt If the Mid-ranking Orcs or the Tier 7 Orc decided to lend their strength, the barrier would surely collapse within the next thirty minutes.

Even though the captain had spoken confidently about defending the city, the loss of contact with the academy and the inability to call for backup had already planted the seed of escape in his mind if things took a turn for the worse.

He was a selfish person and not the type to sacrifice his life for such matters, In fact, if it weren’t for the barrier that not only defended against the Orcs but also trapped them in place, he would have escaped long ago.

And so, the captain anxiously waited for the next 30 minutes, However, he soon realized that his calculations and predictions had been flawed.

He had anticipated that it would take the Orcs a full hour to break through the barrier without the support of their mid-ranking members.

Yet, at this very moment, he could already see numerous cracks on the barrier, indicating its imminent collapse.

It was then that he discovered the damage inflicted on the barrier when the Dragon lance was launched had significantly depleted its energy beyond his expectations.

And he alone bore responsibility for the current dire situation, The Dragon lance was intended for use as a last resort — possessing enough power to swiftly eliminate an unprepared Tier 7 Mage without hesitation.

It had been created as a safeguards in case the academy faced dire circumstances, allowing the captain to order its launch and assassinate enemy Tier 7 Mages who would have been caught off guard by the sneak attack due to the intensity of battle they might be engaged in.

The captain’s decision to use the locked-on lance while the energy shield was still active reeked of arrogance. Explore hidden tales at NovelFire.Côm

He had arrogantly believed that only two Orcs had followed him back to the city and had intended to eliminate them both with the destructive power of the dragon lance.

And If the dragon lance strike had landed, those Tier 6 Orcs would have stood no chance of survival.

However, luck was on the Orcs side, as the powerful Tier 7 Orc arrived just in time to save them from the lance.

Finally, cracks began to appear on the barrier, indicating its inevitable shattering.

Meanwhile, the black-armoured guards were preparing themselves to face the impending Orc invasion and defend the city once the barrier fell.

But instead of rallying his troops, the captain was busy seeking an escape route, anticipating the barrier’s collapse.

With a resounding bang, the barrier finally succumbed, unleashing a symphony of triumph for the Orcs.

They charged towards the city walls, using their bodies as makeshift ladders for there comrades to scale the walls.

Their objective was clear, to eliminate the black-armoured guards and open the gates for the rest of their army to enter the city with ease.

In the midst of this chaos, the guards, awaiting orders on how to bravely defend the city, heard an absurd statement.

”Abandon your posts!, This city cannot defend itself, We must escape before the Orcs take over!” The captain’s words reverberated, shocking the guards who looked at him in disbelief.

They knew the captain had a questionable attitude, but they never expected him to utter such cowardly words simply because his own life was in danger.

The guards had taken oaths to protect the city and its people with their very last breath.

And here they were, standing alongside thousands of student mages from the War God Mage Academy and other schools who had sent their promising students to experience the Orcs’ villages and society.

If anything were to ever happen to the multitude of people in the city, the War God Mage Academy would face dire consequences from different institution.

Yet, the captain had audaciously commanded the defenders to flee, aiming to plunge the entire city into chaos.

His plan was to take advantage of the confusion caused by the guards abandoning their posts, making his own escape much easier and undetected.

Because he aware that the Tier 7 Orcs would simply send more Orcs to hunt him down if he tried to escape at that moment, he was the highest ranking official of the war God Mage Academy present and someone they would chase after first, so he sought to devise a better escape plan.

However, to his astonishment, the black-armoured guards stood motionless, disregarding his orders as they watched the Orcs continue to lengthen their body ladder.

One of the Tier 6 Orcs, with a Mohawk-style hairdo, sneered and remarked,

”Seems there’s some kind of internal dispute among the humans, they would never be able to put up a fight like this, When will they ever learn?”

”It would be wise not to underestimate the humans, Though there are many among them who are despicable, but they are undeniably capable of producing extraordinary talents.”

” Otherwise, how do you think they managed to gain a foothold in all part of the Abyss facing thousands of regions from different passage? ”

”True, our higher-level experts surpass the humans but we are constrained by the Blood Moon Wars. However, that’s not the reason we haven’t defeated them It’s because they have always been adaptable, capable of overcoming any challenge, So be prepared on every front.”

As the Tier 7 Orc finished his speech, he gazed at the Tier 6 Orcs before him, hoping they wouldn’t become complacent and assume victory was already assured.

Then, with a resounding bang, the black-armoured guards were taken aback as they witnessed one of their own striking the captain to a nearby building, and they realised it was the guard whom the captain had slapped earlier for disregarding his orders of launching the dragon lance.

”Don’t just stand there!” the black-armoured guard who had struck the captain exclaimed, taking charge.

”You all went through drills right? , so why do you need this fool’s orders before carrying out your duties? Archers, prepare your bows. Crossbow wielders, join in. We still have plenty of enemies. Shoot with the intention to strike them down!”

With authority, the guard began issuing various commands, as the Orcs, who were already nearing the top of the city walls, finally started meeting their demise as a volley of arrows rained down upon them from the combined force of the black-armoured guards.

”Fire!”

The guard bellowed, prompting the black armoured guards to release a second wave of arrows at the Orcs, who were perilously close to reaching the top of the city gates.
