The Alpha's Unwanted Bride

Chapter 771: LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER

Early the next morning I was up helping mother set up her ingredients for her potions when knock came at our door.

Mother went to open the door.

It was none other than Alice’s mother, Martha.

Martha stood at our door heaving and nostrils flaring as though she had stepped out for war.

“Martha.” Mother said in surprise. “What are you doing here?”

I turned around to look at Martha.

Martha had a strange expression. “Why? You don’t want me here?”

Mother gave an uneasy laugh. “No of course I do. I was only surprised to see you here because I didn’t know you were coming.”

And then I heard mother’s voice change to worry. “Is everything okay? Is Alice fine?”

“Nothing is okay.” Martha snapped at mother.

Mother turned to look at me as if asking for confirmation to be sure she had heard Martha clearly.

I shrugged and mother turned back to Martha.

“Oh I see. If there is an issue then you can come in. I was supposed to go on some errands but I have ample enough time to handle whatever issue there is.” Mother said as she backed away from the door to let Martha in.

“Cut me out with the fake crap.” Martha snapped at us..

Mother was perplexed.

I was confused.

And then it hit me.

Oh goddess in the moon

Alice must have told her mother something about what happened last night.

I hadn’t gotten around telling mother because I had still been processing it myself.

Still trying to find a way out of the mess I had gotten into.

Mother would not be pleased when she heard what happened.

I chewed my bottom lip.

“Martha. Is there a problem?” Mother asked still seeming confused.

Martha gave a bitter laugh and shook her head. “You know what happened. You are so great at acting and pretending like you’re a good person when deep down you’re filled with deceit.”

Mother frowned and I heard her tone change. “Martha you are my friend but that does not mean that I will take such words from you. Be careful what you say-

“After everything.” Martha shook her head. “Everything I have done for you. I opened a door for you here just to get your miserable family out of the mess you were in. I got you this job. Other healers in the pack would die for this job

Mother sighed closed her eyes and nodded. “And I am forever grateful to you. You know that.”

“And this is how you backstab me?!” Martha hissed.

I shivered.

I had no idea what Alice had told Martha but it was obviously mixed with salt and spices.

This reaction was not normal.

I hurried up to where mother stood and started to speak.

But mother cut me short.

“No Ruby I will handle this.” Mother snapped and turned back to Ruby. “If you have a problem with me go ahead and say it stop beating around the bush. Say it to my face!”

And then Martha’s eyes went down to me.

This big brown eyes peered down over me.

“Your harlot of a daughter stole lord Aiden from mine.” Martha said glaring down at me.

Mother’s eyes followed Martha down to my gaze.

Mother blinked at me.

She looked back up at Martha and shook her head.

“What? This is a ridiculous mistake.” Mother said.

I looked down at the floor.

“Go ahead! Ask her!” I could feel Martha’s finger pointing at me. “After everything she confided in your own daughter about the plans of the future Alpha to have my own daughter. But what does this whore do? She goes to sleep with him!”

Mother turned to look at me sharply.

“Offers her body like the cheap whore she is. Just to make sure my girl won’t have a chance with him again.” Martha hurled at me.

“I would rather die than find myself in his bed!” I snapped back without thinking.

The thought of being in his bed was degrading.

Martha glared at me and I quickly shut my mouth.

“Look how insolent and vile she is. Speaking back at me!” Martha barked.

This was a very ridiculous lie.

To think that Alice had cooked up this entire story was beyond me.

She was hurting.

That I understood.

But to tell her mother such an absurd tale.

Was too much.

I didn’t feel too bad about her being sad anymore.

Practically I was slowing starting to not care.

Mother turned my shoulder and made me face her.

“Ruby what is this Lady Martha is saying about you?” Mother asked.

I looked down at my feet.

“LOOK AT ME AND ANSWER ME!” Mother screamed.

I rose my eyes up and her, trembling.

I was terrified to make eye contact with her because whenever mother looked at my eyes she could tell whether I was lying or not.

In this case I had not told her any of this.

Once she saw my expression she closed her eyes in shame and renouncing all hope she had that I hadn’t been involved.

“Mother I swear it’s not what you think.” I swore.

“She is his hand maiden.” Martha snitched.

Mother didn’t seem to be listening to me or Martha anymore.

She was simply staring up at the ceiling.

In a very defeated voice I heard her say. “Ruby is it true that you are his handmaiden?”

“Mother promise you I-

“IS IT TRUE?!” Mother screamed at me so much I shivered.

I knew better than to argue.

“Yes.” I said admitting it and looking down at my hands.

I could feel the energy of the house shift.

Clouded with nothing but disappointment.

“He made her to be his hand maiden.” Martha chipped in. “His hand Whore until he leaves this pack. A mere prostitute if you need me to explain what her duties to him will be and-

“DON’T YOU DARE USE THOSE WORDS ON MY DAUGHTER AGAIN!” Mother growled, her wolf howling.
