Chapter 202: Exposing the Truth

The screen lit up, and the video started playing.

The setting was simple, just a white wall behind them, looking eerily close to an amateur confessional. But what stood out wasn’t the setting. It was Nyx.

She sat in the center of the frame on a simple chair, knees drawn together, hands nervously clenched in her lap. Her pink eyes, normally steadfast and playful, were swimming in tears. Thick, glistening trails ran down her cheeks, and her lip trembled as she tried—and failed—to compose herself.

Behind her stood Luna and Aria, each with one hand placed on Nyx’s trembling shoulders in utmost solidarity. Their postures were rigid, but their expressions spoke volumes. Aria’s face was soft, her brows drawn together in anguish. Her usual ethereal calm had vanished, replaced by something heartbreakingly human: tenderness sharpened by helpless guilt, as if she wished she could rewind time and shield Nyx from everything.

Luna, on the other hand, looked like a dam on the verge of breaking. Her chin was tilted up in a brave attempt at composure, lips pressed into a thin, trembling line. But her wide violet eyes shimmered too brightly, and her shoulders occasionally quivered under the weight of a barely held sob. She looked like she wanted to scream, or rage, or disappear, but instead, she stood still, brokenly trying to be the unshakable wall Nyx could lean against. And failing.

It was the image of sisterhood in mourning. And in fury.

”I... I didn’t know what I was doing...” Video Nyx began, her voice already cracking during her very first sentence. ”I just wanted to survive. I just did what I had to... They said many pretty words... But I wasn’t special to them,” Nyx whispered with a glassy stare right into the camera. ”I was another product among a sea of unfortunate, defenseless young women. XXXVidz knew I was a virgin. XXXVidz knew I was scared. And XXXVidz still hit record.”

Her voice wavered, heavy with the kind of shame that didn’t fade, only deepened with time.

”When I registered for the XXXVidz video shoot where they offered large sums of money to virgin girls like me, I wasn’t even old enough to legally drink...” She paused, chest heaving with broken sobs. ”Hell, I’m still not old enough.”

She hiccupped once, shoulders jerking with a suppressed cry, then raised a trembling hand to gesture toward the purple-haired woman behind her. ”And if that wasn’t already enough... XXXVidz also happily, without a single question or even a raised eyebrow, was willing to film Luna, a bright young girl who’d just finished high school a few months prior.”

Luna closed her eyes then, jaw clenched, her head turning a bit to the side as if looking away might block the memory from forming again. A single tear escaped despite her efforts, trailing down her cheek like a silent admission of pain. Still, she said nothing. She simply stood, fists tight at her sides.

”We all feel preyed upon by XXXVidz...” Nyx whispered, her voice raw. ”And the feeling doesn’t go away. It just festers in our chests... growing... and growing...”

A sob tore from her throat, sounding like a wound reopened in her most vulnerable place: her heart.

Her body curled inward, as if folding into herself might protect her from the memory trying to crawl back up her spine. She wrapped her arms around her stomach, trying to hold herself together, but it wasn’t working. The pain was too much.

Aria immediately leaned toward her, wrapping both arms around Nyx’s frame with a tenderness that shattered whatever composure she had left. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, her hand stroking Nyx’s hair with maternal softness. She whispered some words, but her lips trembled as she said them.

Luna, unable to look away any longer, finally dropped to her knees on Nyx’s other side. She rested her forehead lightly against Nyx’s thighs, letting herself cry silently, shoulders shaking with the effort of keeping her sobs as contained as she possibly could. She didn’t make a sound, but her anguish was unmistakable.

And then, just before the video faded to black, all three girls—entwined in a moment of pain, loss, and sisterhood—held onto each other like the world might fall apart if they let go.

The screen went dark.

A suffocating, crushing stillness bloomed in the boardroom that pressed into lungs and minds alike. It wasn’t just the echo of the video’s ending; it was the realization of what they’d just witnessed.

And what it truly meant.

Kaiden didn’t speak. He didn’t even blink.

Because he didn’t have to.

All eyes drifted, inevitably, toward the three Valkyries behind him. The stars of the show.

Nyx. Aria. Luna.

Still. Cold. Dry-eyed.

There were no tear tracks. No trembling chins. No signs of lingering trauma.

Just cool, unfazed detachment. Faces unreadable. As if the weeping, broken girls from the video didn’t exist. As if they were distant dopplegangers.

And that... that was far more terrifying.

Because if they could cry like that and then stand here as if they’d done nothing more than rehearse lines for a play?

Then they weren’t victims.

They were professionals.

Manipulators.

Players.

Cold-hearted ones.

They’d crafted every tremble, every sob, every wistful look, and whispered confession with surgical precision. They had chosen vulnerability as a weapon. And they’d delivered it with such flawless execution that for a moment, the boardroom had forgotten what game they were playing.

Until now, that is.

It was Zadie who finally exhaled, a subtle, short breath.

Kaiden finally looked up at them all again, his voice cutting through the silence like a guillotine.

”So... shall we talk about credibility now?”

”This is bullshit!” Marlow exploded, rising to his feet so violently that his chair broke into three different parts. ”This is clearly fake! Scripted! You think anyone’s gonna fall for that?!” His face was beet red, his chins trembling with rage, and sweat engulfed the man all over his body. ”I’ve seen better acting in dungeon B-movies!”

”Even so,” Vesta said coolly, swirling her drink, ”they still signed the paperwork. Every consent form. Every waiver. Cry all you want now, it doesn’t erase what they agreed to on the day of the shoot.”

”It wasn’t even XXXVidz!” Renzo shouted, slamming a fist onto the table. ”The shoot was done under that shitty Untainted Holes studio! Yet you liars keep going XXXVidz this, XXXVidz that...”
