Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 496: Chapter 496 Reborn Weapon

The first thing Michael did, naturally, was check if he could now channel his talent into the spear.

As he’d suspected—he could.

A surge of excitement coursed through him, but he didn’t immediately rush to evolve it.

After evolving hundreds of times, it wasn’t that the thrill was gone—only that it was no longer the same impatient, reckless urge he once had. Back then, he would have evolved it the instant he discovered the possibility.

Now, simply knowing the spear could be evolved was enough.

That knowledge settled into him like a quiet assurance, allowing him to set the thought aside and focus on other matters—for the moment.

He shifted the Venomfang Spear in his hands, rolling the familiar grip in his palms before focusing on the next aspect of the [Object Refinement Art]—storage within his soul.

If the skill functioned as described, the spear could rest within him, accessible at a thought, ready to manifest in an instant.

Michael closed his eyes again, letting his awareness sink into the newly forged bond. This time, his intent wasn’t to deepen the connection but to draw the weapon inward.

The sensation was strange—like pulling a limb back into the body when it had somehow been outside. His soul tugged, and the spear responded, dissolving into a cascade of faint green motes that sank into his forehead.

A heartbeat later, the weapon was gone.

Michael drew his consciousness into his soul space.

There, beyond the dark expanse that seemed to stretch without limit, rested two objects.

One was the cauldron—the representative image of his talent within his soul. The other was a new addition: a spear.

Michael spared the cauldron only a passing glance.

Right after his advancement, he had already checked it, hoping for some change to match his physical transformation. When he found none, he simply moved on.

Now, his focus was entirely on the spear.

It looked exactly as it had in the physical world, yet here... he could feel it. Or perhaps see its very essence.

He wasn’t sure if it was right, but a gut feeling told him that if he studied it well enough, he might uncover ways to push it beyond what it had originally been designed to do.

However, there was no time for that now as something else pressed at his thoughts.

Can I evolve my spear here? And if I could... would I get any feedback?

Both possibilities intrigued him, though he was almost certain the latter wouldn’t work.

After all, the spear had no levels—only a rank grade to determine its power and quality.

Michael hesitated only for a moment before deciding to try it.

The instant he sensed anything amiss, he would yank the spear out of his soul space and shove it into his storage. He doubted anything bad would happen—but if it did, he was fully prepared to bolt from the manor with his spear in hand as fast as possible.

Just like with his undead, it took only 25 Evolution Points to push the weapon from One-Star Rare Rank to Three-Star Rare Rank.

Like always, it began with the evolution target releasing a burst of bright light.

But since it wasn’t a living creature, there were no screams—only the violent thrashing of the spear in place.

Michael also noticed something different this time.

With no ”mana” in the ”air” for it to draw upon, the process instead siphoned what he suspected was his own soul energy.

A wave of mental weakness washed over him, but after a moment of alarm—and confirming there was no hidden danger—he relaxed. The consumed energy would recover passively on its own.

In any case, the amount taken was too small to cause any real harm.

What amazed him even more was the speed of the evolution.

It was far quicker than when he evolved a One-Star Rare undead to Three-Star Rare.

Whether this was due to the nature of the item or the type of energy consumed, Michael couldn’t say. But it made him deeply curious.

After all, this was tied directly to his talent.

As several thoughts flashed through his mind, he turned to check the spear’s details...

[Venomfang Spear]

[Rank: Rare★★★]

[Type: Poison Spear]

Inflicts an extremely potent poison on the target, dealing continuous damage over time and severely weakening their defenses.

Michael’s brow rose slightly.

The name was unchanged, the description barely different—yet every word now felt heavier.

The shift from ”potent” to extremely potent was no idle embellishment. He could feel it, even without testing the weapon.

Now, for any ordinary newly advanced Rank 2 Awakener, a weapon of this calibre would have been a treasure—something they could rely on in battle for a long time.

But for Michael, at Level 40—already nearing the peak of Rank 2, with his actual combat ability possibly surpassing it—this spear was far too lacking.

And since he could do more... he did.

The interface shifted again, the familiar prompt appearing before him.

[Upgrade: Rare★★★ → Extraordinary★]

[Cost: 125 Evolution Points]

Michael didn’t even hesitate.

The moment he confirmed, the spear erupted in a blinding white radiance. The thrashing from before was nothing compared to this—it spun violently in place within his soul space, releasing waves of pressure.

A deep hum reverberated through him. This time, the energy drawn wasn’t just a trickle—it was a steady siphon, pulling from his soul and mind alike. A faint ache bloomed behind his eyes, but it wasn’t unbearable.

Then, the light condensed and burst outward, peeling away to reveal something entirely different.

The Venomfang Spear had shed its former look.

Its shaft was now a sleek obsidian-black, etched with faint, serpentine runes that pulsed with toxic-green light.

The spearhead was longer, more slender, and forged from a gleaming black metal with edges that shimmered faintly like venomous mist.

At its base, just above the grip, a small serpent-shaped ornament coiled around the shaft, its gemstone eyes glowing faintly as if alive.

Michael’s attention snapped to the updated details.
