Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1739: Chapter 1733: Toona Sinensis is a Seasonal Vegetable

“It seems like Yuran really likes you.” Nangong Shulan hadn’t expected the little girl, who usually caused a bit of fuss during meals, to behave so well in Silver Wolf’s arms.

“I’m also happy that she likes me.” Last time Silver Wolf held her, she was just as obedient. Now that she had grown quite a bit, he found that she was still well-behaved in his arms. It seemed like the two of them truly had some sort of connection.

“Haha, when there’s a connection, getting along becomes easy. Let’s eat.” Qin Lei hadn’t gone to handle any business today. Now that Cheng Kunmin could manage things on his own, Qin Lei no longer needed to oversee everything every day.

“Little girl, you actually like eating this?” Silver Wolf had just noticed Qing Yuran trying to grab his chopsticks, so he set them aside and used her small spoon to scoop some food for her. Unexpectedly, she continued eating a few more spoonfuls and still wanted more.

But Qing Yuran ignored him and grabbed his hand to demand more. She ate happily, while Silver Wolf felt uneasy because many people disliked this dish.

Silver Wolf had been particularly fond of this dish as a child, and his mother loved to prepare it. Since they were poor, they often ate wild vegetables. Every spring, they would go out to dig and pick wild greens, including this particular kind.

After his mother disappeared, he never ate this dish again. No matter how well it was prepared, he avoided it. But now, seeing the little girl enjoying it so much, he suddenly wanted to try it again.

When Qin Xue heard Silver Wolf’s words, she looked at the food in the ladle. So that’s what it was.

It was a type of leaf from a tree, commonly called Toona sinensis, a seasonal vegetable with high nutritional value.

Its benefits and effects were its most notable features—it could replenish kidney function, nourish hair, enhance vitality, and aid in reducing inflammation and stopping bleeding.

However, Toona sinensis contained a large amount of nitrite, which during human metabolism could produce nitrosamine, a carcinogenic substance.

A mere ounce of Toona sinensis shoots naturally generates a significant amount of nitrite during its growth. Consuming even an ounce of these shoots could push the limits of human tolerance. Eating too much of it at once is practically equivalent to ingesting poison, and everyone knows that excessive toxin intake can be fatal.

So although Toona sinensis is delicious, it must be consumed in moderation. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned, soaked in boiling water, and blanched before it is safe to eat. Otherwise, this delicacy can turn into a deadly dish.

Of course, if it’s properly processed, it can be enjoyed boldly. There’s no need to worry about it after preparation.

Moreover, its numerous health benefits are one of the reasons people love it. Mainly, it’s great for boosting appetite—a dish that could make you eat an extra two bowls of rice.

“Silver Wolf, the little girl is still too young. Don’t let her eat too much of it; give her something else instead.” Qin Xue thought it was not suitable for such a young child to eat too much at once.

“Alright, I wasn’t planning on letting her eat more anyway.” Silver Wolf had initially just wanted her to finish what was in the ladle and stop feeding her afterward. Now, after hearing Qin Xue’s words, he became even more cautious about not overfeeding her.

“Yuran, let uncle feed you something else, okay? The other dishes are delicious too.” Silver Wolf’s gentle voice could almost melt the hearts of those who knew his personality. This was not the same man who usually disliked talking and interacting with others.

Why did he seem like a completely different person when he was with Qing Yuran? If his soldiers saw this side of him, they might drop their jaws in shock. His behavior was even more surprising than Chu Molin’s love for Qin Xue, since Silver Wolf had only just met this child.

Besides, wasn’t a man like him supposed to dislike children? How come when it came to him, it seemed completely contrary to expectations?
