The System Arrives: Leading My Clan to Become the Strongest

108: Chapter 108 Night Raid on the Royal VillaThe night was as dark as ink, splashed across the bluestone streets of the capital, even the moonlight was obscured by the pitch black.

The back gate of the Zhao Family manor opened silently, and a dark figure darted out first; it was the Third Elder, Zhao Song, who had received his orders.

He was dressed in dark, tight-fitting martial attire, his old face covered in deep wrinkles. His originally cloudy old eyes suddenly shot out two cold glints as if dipped in poison, and his lips curled into a sinister arc. That ferocity was enough to make one’s scalp tingle.

Following closely behind were twelve Foundation Establishment elites and dozens of Death Warriors trained by the Family, all dressed in black and masked. Their steps were light, making no sound upon landing; only the slight whistling of their sleeves cutting through the night wind was exceptionally piercing in the silent long street.

“Remember this well: at the third watch, we meet at the East Gate of the Royal Courtyard.”

Zhao Song’s low voice rang out, his gaze sweeping over everyone, his tone laced with ice shards.

“Once inside Jingyun Courtyard, first release Blazing Flame Talismans to burn the buildings, then use cloud piercing crossbows to seal off the escape routes. Leave no one alive! Especially that Clan Chief of the Jiang Family named Jiang Chen—be sure to execute him first and report later!”

“Yes!”

The crowd responded in low voices, their tones suppressed but filled with bloodthirsty ruthlessness.

The group split into three teams, like three ghostly shadows, darting swiftly along the base of the walls toward the Royal Courtyard.

The night patrol soldiers of the capital were currently huddled in sheltered corners of the streets dozing off; none of them noticed this murderous troop.

Although there were Foundation Establishment cultivators stationed as guards on the perimeter of the Royal Courtyard, with Zhao Song’s Golden Core Realm concealing them, they did not notice a thing.

The East Gate of the Royal Courtyard was a side gate rarely visited, with only two dim yellow lanterns hanging there.

It must be known that royal buildings are all designed to face south while sitting in the north. As the saying goes: North is Yin, South is Yang; bearing Yin and embracing Yang is the way of the noble.

Just after the sound of the third watch clapper, Zhao Song led his men and crept over silently.

He raised his hand, and a silver needle coated with sedative pierced the night, accurately pinning a brass bell on the door lintel. The bell gave a muffled thud and then fell silent.

Entering the Royal Courtyard, they moved through it quickly, speeding toward the direction of Jingyun Courtyard.

Before long, they saw the plaque hanging for Jingyun Courtyard.

“Move!”

Seeing Jingyun Courtyard right before his eyes, Zhao Song gave a low shout and was the first to draw the sword at his waist. The blade flashed with cold light as it slashed toward the wooden door.

The wooden door was immediately split in two, and the group filed in one after another.

At that moment, a faint voice, like crushed ice hitting jade, suddenly rang out in the night.

“Trespassing into Jingyun Courtyard in the middle of the night... the Zhao Family’s courage is even greater than I imagined.”

Zhao Song’s movements suddenly froze, and his pupils contracted sharply.

The door to one of the rooms slowly opened. Inside, Jiang Chen stood with his hands behind his back, his moon-white robe fluttering gently in the night wind. There was no trace of sleepiness on his face; his eyes were as calm as an ancient well.

Behind him followed the Fifth Elder, Jiang Beiyuan.

“Jiang Chen!”

Zhao Song was both shocked and furious, his fingers gripping his sword so hard they turned white.

“You actually knew we were coming tonight?”

“The Zhao Family is narrow-minded; such petty tricks cannot be hidden from me.”

Jiang Chen spoke indifferently, his expression unchanged even though the opponent had dozens of people.

“Hmph! Just a tiny Family from a remote small city. To think you dare to oppose my Zhao Family after coming to the capital. Haven’t you asked around? What kind of existence is my Zhao Family in this capital, in the entire Yuan Kingdom?”

Zhao Song sneered, looking at Jiang Chen and the other as if they were already dead.

Soon, the commotion here alerted the rest of the Jiang Family members. They walked out of their rooms one by one, momentarily stunned by the scene before them.

Where was this? This was the Royal Courtyard. For someone to actually dare to come looking for trouble here was simply like lighting a lamp in a latrine—seeking death.

“Oh, everyone is here. In that case, I’ll be a good person to the end and let you all reunite together. Haha, there’s no need to thank me.”

Zhao Song’s aged voice sounded like a nightmare, and the wrinkles on his face looked terrifying.

“Release the Blazing Flame Talismans! Burn them!”

Zhao Song shouted to the people behind him.

Two Foundation Establishment elites heard this and immediately pulled out Blazing Flame Talismans from their robes. Spiritual energy surged at their fingertips as they prepared to activate the talismans.

“Too late.”

Seeing their actions, how could he possibly let them have their way?

Jiang Beiyuan let out a cold snort and darted out like a bolt of lightning, the long sword in his hand dancing into a flurry of dark black sword light.

Two squelching sounds were heard as the two Foundation Establishment elites didn’t even have time to scream before their chests were pierced by the long blade. The Blazing Flame Talismans fell to the ground, sizzling with sparks, but they could no longer be ignited.

“Kill! Leave no one alive!”

Zhao Song’s eyes were bloodshot. He hadn’t expected Jiang Beiyuan to strike so quickly; before he even noticed, his side had already lost two Foundation Establishment Realm cultivators.

He let out a roar and lunged at Jiang Chen with his sword.

He knew that today’s matter had already become a fight to the death.

The remaining ten Foundation Establishment elites also saw red. They summoned their Spiritual Artifacts and charged toward the Jiang Family disciples, while the twenty Death Warriors rushed forward like madmen, heedless of their lives.

In an instant, at the East Gate of Jingyun Courtyard, the sounds of battle cries, clashing weapons, and spiritual energy explosions suddenly erupted, shattering the tranquility of the night.

Seeing this scene, Jiang Chen did not strike immediately. Instead, he was waiting, taking the opportunity to verify the strength of his Clan Members.

Although the Jiang Family disciples were slightly fewer in number, every one of them was fearless in the face of death.

They knew the Clan Chief was there, so there was no need to worry about their own safety.

Facing the Zhao Family’s siege now, far from showing any fear, their Battle Intent was soaring.

Jiang Beiyuan held his long sword, its light cold and sharp. He alone entangled three Foundation Establishment elites.

His cultivation was already at the seventh level of Foundation Establishment, a notch higher than those Foundation Establishment Middle Stage elites of the Zhao Family. Every thrust of his long sword carried the sound of breaking wind, forcing the opponents to retreat repeatedly.

On the other side, a Death Warrior took advantage of the chaos while Zhao Song was attacking Jiang Chen. He quietly circled behind Jiang Chen, the dagger in his hand flashing with a faint blue poisonous light as he stabbed toward Jiang Chen’s heart from behind.

Jiang Chen didn’t even turn his head; he simply gave a casual wave of his hand.

An invisible surge of spiritual energy gushed out like a giant wave. That Death Warrior was instantly sent flying, crashing heavily against the courtyard wall. He spat out blood and died on the spot.

Seeing this, Zhao Song was instantly horrified.

One must know that although that Death Warrior had relied on Medicinal Pills to forcefully break through to Foundation Establishment, he was still in the Foundation Establishment stage. Even Zhao Song would have to use his full strength if he wanted to kill such an opponent.

But Jiang Chen had killed that Foundation Establishment Realm Death Warrior with just a casual wave of his hand. This immediately gave him a bad premonition.

However, the arrow was already on the string and had to be fired. He pushed his spiritual energy to the limit, and his sword erupted in raging flames as he slashed down toward the top of Jiang Chen’s head.

“Jiang Chen! Die!”

Jiang Chen looked up, his gaze still calm.

He slowly raised his hand, condensed a wisp of silver-white spiritual energy at his fingertip, and gave it a gentle flick.

That wisp of spiritual energy streaked across the night sky like a shooting star, accurately striking Zhao Song’s sword.

“Crack—”
