Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

20: Chapter 20 Absolute Truth[”oracle” was developed by the ”Supervisor” civilization, dedicated to satisfying the needs of civilization individuals for a better life. Version 1.0 is the civilian version, it is...]

Lin Sheng directly interrupted the system’s long-winded speech.

After listening for a long while, he realized he hadn’t understood a single thing.

Mainly because the system had said so much, rambling about this and that, yet hadn’t hit the point at all.

”Enough, system. Don’t ramble so much, just get straight to the point.”

”What is this thing useful for, and how do I use it?”

[oracle (1.0) is a Causality Device. The Host can issue oracles through the device by consuming evolution points or energy. The amount of evolution points or energy consumed is related to the content of the oracle.]

”And what happens after issuing an oracle?”

Lin Sheng asked excitedly.

If nothing else, the words ”Causality Device” alone were enough to make Lin Sheng excited.

Although Lin Sheng had already guessed the general function of ”oracle (1.0),” he still wanted to hear the answer from the system with his own ears.

The system’s indifferent mechanical voice rang in Lin Sheng’s ear, and he seemed to detect a hint of arrogance in it.

[A God’s oracle is ”Absolute Truth.”]

Hearing this, Lin Sheng’s breathing became rapid.

Due to being overly excited, Lin Sheng subconsciously ignored the fact the system had mentioned earlier: using ”oracle (1.0)” required consuming evolution points.

”System, can you take ’oracle (1.0)’ out and let me see it?”

Only then did Lin Sheng realize that unlike when he drew the nuclear bomb, perhaps because it was only a usage opportunity, the system hadn’t brought the item out directly this time.

[Affirmative.]

After the brief reply, a translucent cubic device with sides of one meter appeared in front of Lin Sheng.

In the center of the device was a ”Core” whose color Lin Sheng could not discern, surrounded by countless swirling colored lights.

Although the colored lights were ”contained” within the cube without a single leak, they gave Lin Sheng a sense of being infinite.

When Lin Sheng focused his attention on the ”Core” within the lights, even his consciousness felt a sense of trance.

[Ding]

”What level of item is this exactly?”

Lin Sheng was startled. The system’s ”ding” instantly brought him back from his trance.

Even his ”Truth Level” consciousness could be affected; the terror of oracle (1.0) was evident.

”Grant me invincible strength.”

Lin Sheng issued an oracle to ”oracle (1.0).”

[Ding]

[The Host’s oracle requires the consumption of 649...4613 evolution points. It is detected that the Host has insufficient evolution points. The oracle cannot be issued. Please issue a new oracle.]

The system’s heartless words, laced with a hint of contempt, shattered Lin Sheng’s dream of invincibility.

Only then did he remember what the system had said before.

Using the oracle required consuming evolution points.

Lin Sheng counted the points required for ”invincible strength.” Well, there were so many digits he couldn’t even count them.

Unwilling to give up, Lin Sheng issued a few more oracles, but all ended with insufficient evolution points.

Looking at the mesmerizing colored lights of ”oracle (1.0),” Lin Sheng felt the sorrow of possessing a mountain of treasure that he couldn’t exploit.

”Wait!”

”Maybe I can do this.”

A bold idea sprouted in Lin Sheng’s mind.

He opened his massive mouth. Under his wide maw, ”oracle (1.0)” looked like a sugar cube, ready to be swallowed in one bite.

[Abandon your unrealistic thoughts.]

Just as Lin Sheng’s mouth was about to descend, the system’s mechanical voice suddenly rang in his ear, filled with disdain.

[Your ”Devour” talent is only ”Concept Level.” Even if the oracle is just the 1.0 civilian version, it is not something you can digest.]

The system’s words dispelled the bold idea in Lin Sheng’s heart and made him calm down.

Lin Sheng then had the system put away ”oracle (1.0).”

This was undoubtedly a weapon of mass destruction with almost no upper limit to its power.

But human desire has no upper limit either. Lin Sheng felt that even if he had the chance to use the oracle in the future, it would be a long time from now.

After all, the power of the ”oracle” was determined by the amount of energy. He had the greed of a human; even if he had hundreds of millions of evolution points, he would probably think, ”Let’s wait until I have a billion points before using it.”

Once he reached a billion points, he might think, ”Let’s wait for ten billion.”

Thinking of this, Lin Sheng shook his head, forcing himself to put the matter of the ”oracle” aside.

...

”System, proceed with 500,000 points for a common Evolution.”

After putting away ”oracle (1.0),” Lin Sheng planned to undergo another Evolution.

After all, he needed to head toward the center of the Plain, where strength was the only hard truth.

As for why he didn’t use all his evolution points, the main reason was that Lin Sheng still wanted to use the invincibility frames of Evolution to dodge fatal injuries.

If the remaining evolution points were too few, his Evolution time would be greatly reduced.

In that case, he might encounter danger again immediately after the Evolution was completed.

[Ding]

[Consuming 500,000 evolution points. Common Evolution beginning.]

[This Evolution will last for 5 solar days of this planet. Please wait patiently, Host.]

Seeing the time required for this Evolution, Lin Sheng was glad he had kept 200,000 evolution points.

He had guessed before that as his strength increased, the evolution points required for Evolution would surely increase significantly.

By that logic, if fewer evolution points were consumed, the time required for Evolution would surely be much shorter.

The facts were indeed as Lin Sheng had predicted.

This Evolution of 500,000 points only took five days.

Compared to the thirty days for 1,000,000 points last time, the time consumption was much less.

...

Soon, five days passed in the blink of an eye.

Lin Sheng slowly stood up and subconsciously glanced at the data panel.

「Host: Lin Sheng

Body Length: 25 meters

evolution points: 209,858

Talent: Immortal Consciousness (Truth Level)

Devour (Concept Level)

Evolution (Concept Level)

Immaculate Body (Balance Grade) (3%)

Strong Acid Breath (Natural Grade)

Poison Fangs (Low Level)

Venom Spit (Low Level)

Static Electricity (Low Level)

Acidic Exoskeleton (Low Level)

Description: You seem to lack some combat offensive means suitable for your body.」

By now, his body length had reached 25 meters, and his evolution points were down to a bit over 200,000.

There were no changes in terms of talents, except the progress of the ”Immaculate Body” talent had reached 3%.

What concerned Lin Sheng the most was the description the system gave him at the end.

The description said he lacked offensive means.

Lin Sheng agreed with this very much.

Currently, the only useful skill for him was breathing fire, and that skill was something he had accidentally developed himself.

As for the other offensive skills, besides Strong Acid Breath, their power was simply underwhelming.

But those were all just Low Level talents after all; Lin Sheng didn’t expect them to have much lethality.
