Devouring Evolution: Devouring Nuclear Bombs at the Start

204: Chapter 204 The Struggle for the Orthodox Lineage”You’ve arrived too quickly; your friend hasn’t returned yet.”

Upon hearing Lin Sheng’s purpose for coming to the Shanhai Realm, Nan Zhu deduced everything related to it in a single thought.

”That was my oversight.”

Learning that Nan Feng had not yet returned to the Shanhai Realm, Lin Sheng realized that his means of navigation were obtained from the Light Lord, so it was normal to be faster than Nan Feng.

”As for your need to find a Great Overarching cultivation technique in the Shanhai Realm, I can tell you clearly: it’s unnecessary.”

Seeing Lin Sheng’s confusion, Nan Zhu smiled at him.

”You must have tried to deduce the continuation of this technique before, but failed, right?”

Lin Sheng nodded; just as Nan Zhu said, he had indeed tried to deduce the subsequent parts of the technique before.

At that time, Lin Sheng felt that with his Truth Level consciousness, he should be able to deduce the technique to the Great Overarching Golden Immortal level.

But in practice, Lin Sheng discovered he had been too naive.

While deducing the subsequent parts of the technique, he encountered an obstacle like a natural chasm; no matter how Lin Sheng tried to deduce it, he couldn’t break through.

”Does Fellow Daoist Nan Zhu know where this technique originated from?”

Lin Sheng asked curiously.

Looking at Nan Zhu’s expression, he definitely knew something about this technique.

However, Nan Zhu shook his head at Lin Sheng, not answering his question directly, but saying:

”Since Fellow Daoist has a predestined connection with that person, you will naturally find out later. I need not overstep.”

Seeing Nan Zhu refuse to speak, Lin Sheng could only let it go.

He guessed that this technique must have been created by a Great Overarching being. The reason Nan Zhu wouldn’t say was likely due to the so-called ’fated time has not yet arrived.’

It seemed that two of the purposes for Lin Sheng’s visit to the Shanhai Realm could no longer be fulfilled. As for the final one...

Just as Lin Sheng was about to speak, Nan Zhu spoke first, as if he had long anticipated it:

”Regarding the third matter for which Fellow Daoist has come, I can help you complete it.”

Hearing this, Lin Sheng felt a surge of joy.

This third matter should have been the most difficult to accomplish on this trip. After all, Lin Sheng was here to hunt people from someone else’s world; no one would normally agree to that.

But Lin Sheng hadn’t expected that for this most difficult third task, Nan Zhu would actually take the initiative to help.

”I didn’t say I would help you hunt the Great Overarching Golden Immortals of the Shanhai Realm.”

Seeing the expression on Lin Sheng’s face, Nan Zhu instantly guessed the other’s thoughts.

He spoke directly, explaining:

”I know you need a Great Overarching Golden Immortal to resurrect your close friend. I can help you with that, and it doesn’t require you to hunt any Great Overarching Golden Immortals.”

”Why are you helping me?”

At this moment, Lin Sheng suddenly snapped to his senses.

Something was wrong. Logically, he and Nan Zhu had no prior interaction, and Nan Zhu was a true Great Overarching being. Yet since they met, Nan Zhu’s attitude toward Lin Sheng had been far too friendly.

Although Nan Zhu said it was because Lin Sheng was a member of the Supervisors...

After coming to his senses, Lin Sheng didn’t quite believe that was the whole story.

Perhaps as Nan Zhu said, members of a Great God Level Civilization indeed had the right to speak with him as equals, but that didn’t mean Nan Zhu would adopt such a friendly attitude right from the start.

”Hehe, my helping Fellow Daoist is actually because I also need Fellow Daoist to do one thing for me.”

Seeing Lin Sheng’s attitude become somewhat wary, Nan Zhu just chuckled, unbothered.

”Fellow Daoist needs to use that creation of a Great God Level Civilization to resurrect your friend. My helping you is because I want you to use that opportunity to do something for me.”

”Do something for you? Do you want to use the oracle to break through to a realm above Great Overarching? That should be impossible, right?”

Lin Sheng frowned and shook his head. He currently had two uses of the oracle; he had planned to use one to resurrect Eighteen. Now that Nan Zhu was going to help him resurrect Eighteen, Lin Sheng was willing to give one use of the oracle to the other party.

But Lin Sheng also knew in his heart that his oracle was only a civilian version with certain limitations. If Nan Zhu wanted to use it to break through beyond Great Overarching, it was absolutely impossible.

Therefore, before proceeding, Lin Sheng needed to make things clear to avoid any misunderstandings later.

However, upon hearing Lin Sheng’s words, Nan Zhu directly stated that Lin Sheng had guessed wrong.

”I do not wish to use Fellow Daoist’s ’oracle’ to break through to the Mythological Great Overarching, but rather to use it for something else.”

Nan Zhu did not hide his purpose. He gazed at the colored light within Lin Sheng’s body and spoke slowly:

”I and several fellow daoists intend to rewrite the orthodoxy of a world, making them practice The Great Overarching Way.”

”Although my fellow daoists are all at the Great Overarching level, they still lack some means regarding this kind of information rewriting. Fellow Daoist’s appearance happens to make up for this.”

”A struggle of orthodoxy?”

Lin Sheng murmured in a low voice.

”Exactly, a struggle of orthodoxy.”

”At our level, we have become indifferent to many things, but we view orthodoxy with exceptional importance.”

”Fellow Daoist should be aware of the conflict between the materialist faction and the idealistic side, right?”

Hearing this, Lin Sheng nodded.

Seeing Lin Sheng nod, Nan Zhu continued:

”At the level of Great Overarching or Truth Side civilizations, the struggle between these two sides is no longer important. For existences of this level, orthodoxy is what matters most.”

”Although existences like us won’t directly act to wipe out living beings of other idealistic orthodoxies—because many orthodoxies have Great Overarching level existences—”

”We can tamper with the orthodoxy. We only need to suppress the Great Overarching existence and then rewrite their orthodoxy.”

”Suppress... a Great Overarching?”

Hearing Nan Zhu’s words, Lin Sheng was incredibly shocked.

Suppressing a Great Overarching—what an arrogant statement.

An existence like a Great Overarching, even if several existences of the same level acted together, it should be impossible to suppress them, right?

”Fellow Daoist, rest assured. Before meeting you, my fellow daoists and I had already devised a strategy.”

Nan Zhu seemed sincerely interested in pulling Lin Sheng into the group, or perhaps he simply wanted to boast in front of Lin Sheng, as he revealed his plan without reservation.

”The combat strength of myself and my fellow daoists is top-tier; Fellow Daoist can rest assured on that point.”

”As for the question of whether a Great Overarching can be suppressed, which Fellow Daoist worries about, we as Great Overarching beings naturally know the answer very well.”

”Existences at the Great Overarching level are indeed in a state of eternal and immortal absolute existence. However, we only need to erase all information of their past existence, then have existences of the same level forget the traces of their existence, and finally suppress them with strength.”

”Will that really work?”

Lin Sheng felt that Nan Zhu’s plan was somewhat unreliable; after all, it sounded too idealized and far too simple.

”Fellow Daoist can rest assured. According to my understanding, in that existence’s orthodoxy, only he has reached a level comparable to Great Overarching. Therefore, once the deed is done, we only need to take the initiative to forget the opponent.”
