Weakest Beast Tamer Gets All SSS Dragons

Chapter 917 - Taming the Crystal Hearts

Selphiras Black Tortoise crushed creatures under its enormous mass making even those weird Silver-rank beasts seem insignificant. Her White Serpent remained inside her body giving her protection and the capacity to direct another part of her attacks by herself.

Until now she hadnʼt gone crazy trying to stop the complete mutant flow continuing to emerge without apparent end.

It would have been tempting to unleash her full power in an effort to totally contain the invasion. Demonstration that would have impressed any observer too.

And honestly, sheʼd be capable of doing it if she committed completely. Sheʼd even demonstrated it somewhat at the beginning.

The power sheʼd accumulated during a really long life had also advanced in recent years with the thousand-day method and was sufficient to create a zone of absolute death that would stop the flow fully at least temporarily.

But sheʼd had to stop after the first few minutes… It was surprising for the enemy, lowered their morale and all that.

But then sheʼd tire faster than her mana regeneration could keep up. Her reserves would exhaust to the point where she could no longer maintain a decent activity level. And the situation would turn out considerably worse when she inevitably needed to reduce her efforts.

Because mutants would exploit those weak moments to penetrate the defenses with a more forceful march than what they had maintained through constant and more steady numbers.

Until now sheʼd been eliminating slightly more than sufficient quantity to maintain a manageable pressure for her and for the youthsʼ resources.

She trusted that with all the academyʼs new Gold rank students and forces remaining in the city, theyʼd be capable of handling the dozens of mutants constantly passing through the area she and Arturo controlled.

Load distribution permitting defense to function without depending on individuals maintaining themselves at impossible levels indefinitely.

The academy had all those strong young tamers Ren had facilitated creating. Students with capabilities vastly surpassing what previous generations had achieved at comparable ages.

And it also had professional guards and experienced instructors who could contribute effectively even if they didnʼt equal the prodigies like Ren or Luna in terms of raw potential.

Together they should be sufficient to stop the leftover mutants she didnʼt remove directly.

At least that was the hope she operated under while continuing her battle that had already extended during hours beginning to feel like days.

However, too much time had already passed since the flow began. Too much time for it to simply be an opportunistic attack exploiting the vulnerability of the moment.

She was starting to somewhat worry it may be too much to let this continue…

Because it didnʼt seem like it would stop soon.

This was a sustained assault requiring resources going beyond what any ordinary mutant threats had manifested.

Were these corrupt beasts truly this intelligent to know they just needed a bit more? To sacrifice this much and keep at it?

Selphira began to genuinely worry a lot that the forces defending the academy or city wouldnʼt be competent of dealing with the same pressure for much longer since the youths werenʼt as experienced in resource management.

Cumulative exhaustion would eventually degrade the effectiveness of even the most powerful tamers. To a point where errors would become more frequent and where gaps in defense would begin appearing.

Her hand moved unconsciously toward the pocket where she kept a powerful potion sheʼd been saving for an emergency exactly like this.

She could spend all her energy in a fusion to stop the flow now and try entering the ruin before her time ran out.

And if her power was exhausted...

Taking the diamond power while almost exhausted would provide purer energy than what was normal in her system. Generating a massive boost to her capabilities for a limited period. An amplification elevating her to levels she normally didnʼt reach.

She wondered if she should attack with everything she had now. Use the fusion and potion to unleash a final assault that would completely clean the area for a while and eliminate the rebel army that had entrenched itself near the ruin.

It would be an enormous loss since these potions were very limited resources of immense value that she preferred saving for the youthsʼ future like Ren or her granddaughter and her cousins. But it could end this danger before the situation deteriorated further.

The Diamond-rank potion in her pocket was one of maybe slightly more than 5 remaining in the entire kingdom. Irreplaceable treasures that could turn the tide of battle but at the cost of never having it available again.

Was now the right time? Or should she wait for even more desperate circumstances?

But then she felt something making her calculations about the potionless future importance become secondary to a more urgent recognition.

A known energy signature emanated from the enemy army so jealously guarded. Mana signature sheʼd felt before in multiple contexts during years of passive conflict that had preceded this open confrontation.

It was a presence she couldnʼt confuse with anyone else because there was a familiarity coming from investigations sheʼd done for Siriusʼs sake for too long.

Remembering Siriusʼs tragedy and his unfortunate recent end...

Her gaze hardened as she processed what she didnʼt knew she would feel. Muscles tensing in preparation for an escalation this encounter demanded.

The expression sheʼd maintained neutral during hours of combat transformed into something considerably more dangerous. Intensity communicating that the patience sheʼd been exercising was about to be fully exhausted.

Orion had dared… He was exiting the ruin.

Not simply a suspicion based on indirect inference but absolute certainty coming from feeling his distinctive mana presence moving from the depths toward the surface.

There was more hate inside her than sheʼd thought would be.

But it was fine... Because now sheʼd make Orion see that with all this heʼd committed a grave error.

Because Selphira had been holding back. Conserving strength not just for sustained defense but for this exact moment. Sheʼd killed more dangerous opponents than Orion during her long career. Had faced tamers with power exceeding his. The primary objective had just presented itself.

And Selphira fully intended to make him regret every choice that had led to this moment.

But there was something strange around Orion…

Sorry for the usual beginning-of-the-month situation where we can’t read the latest chapters until everything gets published… but they’re all up now.

I couldn’t post much extra for several reasons and didn’t have a buffer ready, so I’m sorry for the two-day delay too.

The good news is this won’t happen again. We’re finally at the maximum tier with the lowest possible price per chapter they allowed us to choose, so from now on there shouldn’t be any more interruptions. Yay!
