Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

”No!”

Jayce stepped forward and refused outright.

”This is too dangerous! The probability of success is too low. Sierra can’t try it. I’ll do it!”

Hearing this, Dr. Hayes gave Jayce a surprised look.

Dr. Hayes had been a little annoyed when Jayce refused so bluntly just now.

But after hearing Jayce’s last few words, Dr. Hayes raised his eyebrows.

”You’ll do it?” A slight smile touched the corners of Dr. Hayes’s mouth. ”Aren’t you afraid?”

”I’m not afraid.” Jayce looked at Sierra. ”No matter what, I’ll always stand in front of Sierra.”

Sierra wasn’t surprised that Jayce would make such a decision.

But this time, Sierra didn’t want Jayce to shield her.

’I’m not some helpless little girl who can’t take care of herself. In this perilous apocalypse, pinning all my hopes on another person isn’t a wise decision.’

’Even if that person is Jayce, it’s not happening.’

”You don’t have to!” Sierra looked at Jayce seriously. ”This time, I want to do it myself.”

Jayce stared at Sierra, his brow furrowed instinctively, but after a moment, he nodded in agreement.

”Alright! If Sierra wants to do it herself, then she’ll do it herself.”

Sierra was a little surprised that he had agreed so readily.

Just as she was wondering why he had given in so easily, she heard him say to Dr. Hayes, ”Dr. Hayes, would you mind having one more test subject?”

Dr. Hayes’s smile widened. ”Of course not.”

He had wanted to attempt this for a long time but had never found suitable candidates or the right opportunity.

Now that two suitable test subjects had appeared at once, he wasn’t a fool. How could he possibly disagree?

”Jayce, you...”

Before Sierra could finish, Jayce looked over at her.

”I can’t take your place, but you can’t refuse to let me do this with you.”

Hearing this, Sierra didn’t say anything more.

’In any case, this second life is a bonus for both of us.’

’There’s no need to sweat the small stuff.’

”Since you’ve both made up your minds, there’s no time like the present. Let’s start tomorrow.”

Although Dr. Hayes was trying his best to suppress his feelings, it was easy to tell from his tone and expression that he was in a state of extreme excitement.

Perhaps all researchers acted this way when faced with a project that captivated them.

Sierra and Jayce glanced at each other, and without refusing, they agreed on the spot.

They were placed in separate small rooms, each with a rack of test tubes in front of them.

Inside the test tubes were various liquids.

They were crystal clear, somewhat resembling Crystal Cores, but not entirely the same.

Dr. Hayes explained to them, ”These are extracts from Crystal Cores. The energy is purer than what’s in a Crystal Core, but it’s also more volatile. You have to be extra careful when absorbing it. One more thing to note: don’t use this energy to enhance your existing Superpowers. Use it to develop a new one.”

”Although I came up with this theory, I haven’t tested it myself, so I can only offer suggestions. As for the specific procedure, that’s up to you. Be careful, don’t push yourselves too hard. If you feel anything is wrong, stop immediately. We can make adjustments based on the data from this experiment.”

Finding suitable test subjects was no easy feat.

Dr. Hayes truly cherished the two people before him.

That was precisely why he kept reminding them of the dangers.

Sierra and Jayce both listened intently, nodding with serious expressions.

Compared to Dr. Hayes, they naturally cherished their own lives even more.

’Who would want to die young after getting a second chance at life?’

Closing the door tightly, Sierra looked at the reagents in front of her. Without much hesitation, she took a deep breath, picked up a test tube, and poured its contents directly into her mouth.

Just as Dr. Hayes had said, the energy within was purer, but also more volatile.

It was different from the energy contained in Crystal Cores.

The moment the energy entered her body, she felt as if she was about to burst into flames.

Fortunately, Sierra was a resolute person.

She quickly endured the discomfort and, following Dr. Hayes’s instructions, guided the energy to circulate through her body.

It was difficult at first, of course, but it didn’t last long.

Perhaps because she had been reborn, her spiritual power was stronger than that of an ordinary person.

After enduring the initial agonizing pain, she soon found the feeling she was looking for.

But by then, the energy in her body was almost depleted.

Sierra immediately opened her eyes and, without any hesitation, picked up another test tube and drank the liquid in one gulp.

Sensing that the energy was still insufficient, Sierra drank two more in quick succession.

Her body was once again filled with searing hot energy, making Sierra feel like she was about to combust.

Not daring to delay, she immediately closed her eyes and began to guide the energy through her body.

Gradually, Sierra began to feel something different.

It was the sensation of something new emerging within her body...

It felt exactly the same as when she had first awakened her Superpower.

A jolt of joy went through Sierra’s heart, causing the energy within her to fluctuate instantly.

This made her stop her stray thoughts and quickly refocus her mind.

A little over half an hour later, Sierra slowly opened her eyes.

She had indeed awakened a new power.

And it was the Space Ability she had been longing for.

The newly awakened Space Ability created a space that was only 10 meters in length, width, and height.

It wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small either.

At the very least, it could hold quite a lot of supplies.

And since she didn’t lack Crystal Cores, upgrading her Superpower would be quite fast.

The space would probably become very large before long.

By then, many things would become much more convenient.

’It’s a shame I couldn’t awaken a Wood Element Ability, though!’

Although it was a bit of a pity, it wasn’t a big deal.

’One has to know when to be content!’

With that thought, Sierra stood up, opened the door, and walked out.

Just as she stepped outside, Dr. Hayes walked up to her.

”How did it go? Were you successful? What Superpower did you awaken?”

Dr. Hayes’s face was filled with excitement.

If this really worked, it would be a major achievement.

”Yes!” Sierra nodded. ”It was a success. I awakened a Space Ability.”

”Space System?” Dr. Hayes’s voice rose a bit. ”That’s not bad either!”

Just as he finished speaking, Jayce also opened his door and came out.

”How about you?” Dr. Hayes asked Jayce, though he was no longer as excited as before.

After all, since Sierra had already succeeded, Jayce’s result was likely to be similar.
