Chapter 171: Chapter 98: Displaying Might in the Army, Subduing Han Hu with Fists

”Die!”

The Captain named Lu Feng lunged out from the crowd, snatched a Long Spear from a nearby garrison soldier, and thrust it furiously toward Zheng Jun!

Seeing this, Zheng Jun maintained his upright posture, simply drawing his blade for a casual Slash.

In the next second, a cold gleam flashed past.

Seeing this, Lu Feng was horrified.

Immediately after, the Long Spear in Lu Feng’s hands was shattered. Wood splinters flew as the terrified Lu Feng was forced back by the cold gleam. His Iron Armor burst open, and he was sent flying, crashing into a nearby brazier in a miserable state.

Surprisingly, aside from looking disheveled, Lu Feng bore no actual injuries.

”We are all comrades in the army. If we slaughter one another, Thief Zhang will only laugh at us!”

Zheng Jun spoke coldly, his icy gaze sweeping over all the Captains present. ”However, you should also be mindful of the hierarchy within the army. I am the Squad Commander of the Black Mountain Fortress, a Sixth Grade Military Officer of the Great Zhou. Scram!”

[Forcing the enemy back with a single Slash, the Wave-Treading Saber flaunts its might. Repayment progress of the Wave-Treading Saber...]

Blinking away in an instant, Zheng Jun simply ignored the small ink-wash text.

He would wait for the final settlement at the end.

Zheng Jun did not think the repayment could be completed tonight, but no matter what, it would increase by a margin.

Captain Lu Feng clambered to his feet miserably. Hearing Zheng Jun’s words, he felt deeply ashamed. Covering his face with his hand, he scurried back into the ranks, covered in dirt and soot.

The other Captains in the army exchanged glances, their expressions quite ugly.

Zheng Jun had come to challenge them today and actually dared to humiliate the First Infantry Squad of their Pingzhang Camp. This was far too arrogant!

”I...”

Another Captain took a step forward, his eyes wide with anger as he sought to fight Zheng Jun. ”Although my skills are mediocre and lowly, the First Infantry Squad of the Pingzhang Camp cannot be insulted! Today, even knowing I am no match, I wish to experience the brilliant techniques of the Black Mountain Fortress!”

Hearing this, Zheng Jun couldn’t help but laugh; he was thoroughly amused. He immediately sneered, ”You’re getting angry? You sit in the city, patrolling the streets day by day. I was at Black Mountain, where I first Slashed a spy from the Demon Court, and then eradicated a wanted criminal of the Court! The ten thousand taels of silver I earned were all embezzled by you, and yet you’re the ones getting angry?”

He thought, ”Damn it, you embezzled my money, and when I come to collect it, you try to take the moral high ground?”

With that, Zheng Jun flicked the edge of his blade and looked at the many Captains before him, calmly saying, ”Fair enough. General Han is a shameless person anyway. If the top beam is crooked, the lower ones will naturally be askew. You all should just attack together and save me some time!

”It will save us the trouble of coming at me one by one and wasting time.”

Saying so, Zheng Jun looked up at Han Hu.

He wasn’t stupid; he could naturally tell that this was under Han Hu’s orders.

To have these Captains step up to test his mettle and drain his stamina in the process.

His reputation for slaying Meng Xian and True Man Yuan Yi had spread, which inevitably made Han Hu wary.

Using such tactics wasn’t a bad idea.

However, Zheng Jun couldn’t be bothered to run in circles with them. They could either attack together, or cut straight to the chase!

Hearing Zheng Jun’s words, the Captains erupted into an uproar again.

They gritted their teeth, their faces flushing red with anger.

”There is no need for that. Since General Zheng wishes to fight, let us have a battle.”

It was only then that Han Hu spoke, his voice booming like a bronze bell. ”This place is too narrow. Why don’t we head to the drill ground? It’s spacious over there, making it easier for us to fully unleash our Fists and Feet!”

Zheng Jun nodded and immediately strode toward the drill ground.

As Han Hu followed behind him, his confidence was somewhat lacking.

He had deliberately withheld and embezzled Zheng Jun’s silver taels.

Right now, the Captain was not in the army. All the comrades at the Squad Commander level had gone to Yanting Commandery to fight against the Great Righteous King, Zhang Bengong. Remaining within the Commandery, the number one figure in the army was none other than him, Han Hu.

However, not long ago, Han Hu had learned that the Prefect had added a new squad formation. The plan was to unite the County Soldiers from the subordinate counties to establish a Black Mountain Stronghold. A squad of troops would be stationed at the Black Mountain Stronghold, with Zheng Jun appointed as the acting Squad Commander.

Although he was supposedly ”acting,” his name was on the official registry, and he had been issued an official waist tag and Official Robe. The implication was clear: he was the official Squad Commander.

Therefore, this posed a threat to Han Hu’s status as the ”number one military figure in the Commandery.”

That was why he had withheld Zheng Jun’s reward silver.

He had simply wanted to wait for Zheng Jun to enter the city and seek him out.

He would then pretend to be nonchalant and use the tone of a senior lecturing a junior. He’d tell him that although he was a young, spirited hero, he still needed to respect his seniors in Pingzhang Commandery.

Afterward, he would return three thousand taels to him.

And keep three thousand taels for himself.

This way, he would introduce this Zheng San to their military circles. In the future, Zheng San would get a share of the phantom salaries they claimed everywhere. Everyone would benefit—wouldn’t that be wonderful?

But unexpectedly, Zheng Jun’s first words had been about him being old, blind, and senile, telling him to get the hell out if he was past his prime. This caused Han Hu to lose all face!

Thus, he accepted the challenge.

However, Han Hu was secretly feeling a bit apprehensive.

Before becoming a Squad Commander, he had indeed fought in battles frequently.

But since becoming a Squad Commander, he hadn’t seen combat in many years.

Aside from his daily cultivation, he only sparred with his military comrades, and even then, they always stopped before dealing real harm.

His last deployment had been when the previous Prefect flew into a rage, leading an army deep into Black Mountain to clash with the Old Demon there. Even then, he had only provided a True Gang Array to support the Prefect and hadn’t engaged in any one-on-one combat.

In contrast, his opponent, Zheng San, was infamous for his ferocity.

He was not in the Outer Gang realm, but merely at Qi Storage.

Yet he had first Slashed Meng Xian, then killed Yuan Yi.

Meng Xian was a spy for the Northern Demon Court, while Yuan Yi was an Elder in the Jianghu.
