I Can See Experience Points

Chapter 65: Chapter 64: [Code Number: D-12, C-13, B-09]

The bespectacled man offered a cautious warning, causing the other three to roll their eyes in unison.

’Like we needed you to tell us that.’

’Even without the National Guardian Team, we wouldn’t dare act recklessly!’

’Everyone knows the Energy Research Lab loves to ”borrow” gifted individuals from the Cleaners to assist with their experiments.’

’You could say this place was their biggest nightmare back when they were still rookies.’

’They would never forget the expressions on some of the researchers’ faces—as if they wanted to dissect them.’

’If they weren’t also government employees, they’d probably have been turned into lab specimens long ago, right?’

’But then again, the pay for participating in one of those experiments was ridiculously high!’

’More than triple what they made in half a year.’

The men followed behind the research lab’s security personnel, each lost in their own thoughts.

Upon arriving at a room with a plaque that read [DIRECTOR], the other three were stopped at the door, leaving only the bespectacled man to go inside.

About five minutes later,

the bespectacled man emerged with a permit in hand.

At the same time, the number of security personnel had increased to five.

This made the other three feel twice the pressure.

The National Guardian Team was composed of elites from all over the country. They were responsible for handling bizarre incidents that the city Cleaners couldn’t resolve.

Every one of them was powerful and had their own dedicated team.

They enjoyed the best benefits in the world while simultaneously facing the world’s most dangerous events.

Seeing the indifferent expressions on the surrounding security personnel, who were escorting them like prisoners, it would have been stranger if they *didn’t* feel any pressure.

The group entered an elevator and rode it to the eighteenth floor before it stopped.

The moment the doors opened, they saw a massive metal door.

”Permit.”

The security guard watching over the eighteenth floor didn’t waste any words.

The team members behind him were secretly gathering energy in their hands.

If the bespectacled man couldn’t produce it, they would likely attack immediately.

”Your Director just approved it.”

He held out the permit, handing it to the man in charge.

”Okay. 005, 006, take the keys for D-12, C-13, and B-09 and bring him to get the items. As for you,” he said, addressing the bespectacled man, ”do not respond to any sound you hear. The anomalous items inside have many strange abilities. If you answer something and drop dead, we’re not responsible. You have thirty minutes. If you’re not out by then, we will shut the door and seal it for good.”

Hearing this, the bespectacled man gulped.

Although he had been mentally prepared before coming, hearing the warning firsthand still made him nervous.

This metal door was known as the Gate of Hell.

Legend had it that if all the anomalous items inside were released, it would trigger a catastrophe.

A little over twenty minutes later, the bespectacled man walked out carrying three boxes.

His face was pale, and large beads of sweat dripped from his forehead onto the metal floor.

He had clearly just gone through a journey he would never forget.

”Let’s go.”

After giving the weak command to the three captains, the four of them immediately took the elevator and left.

”Deputy Chief, what happened?”

The three men asked once they had left the underground Energy Research Lab and were sitting in their Cleaner-issued vehicle.

So, the man in glasses was their Deputy Chief.

”Don’t ask. It’s truly worthy of its rumored name, the Gate of Hell. I never want to go in there again for the rest of my life.”

Seeing the look on his face, the others immediately extinguished any desire to gossip.

Although the Chief often chewed out the Deputy Chief so badly he looked utterly pathetic,

the truth was, when it came to chewing people out, the Deputy Chief was hardly any less vicious than the Chief himself.

”Here’s the file on the three anomalous items. Pass it around and read it. Memorize the instructions. The last thing I need is for you guys to get KO’d by these items before we even find the Mirror Spirit and Dream Eye.”

As he spoke, he took the file from his coat and handed it to the three captains.

[Item No. D-12: Immobilization Talisman.

Origin: Originally a prop used by a fake Daoist to scam people. On March 15, 2019, it anomalously awakened and gained the ability to actually immobilize people.

Effect: Anyone hit by the Immobilization Talisman will be paralyzed, regardless of age or gender. Effective against Wandering Soul-class Evils. Paralyzes White Evils for five seconds, Black Evils for three seconds, and Red Evils for 0.5 seconds. Effective on gifted individuals at or below the late stage of the First Grade, and can block their energy flow.

Ineffective against Vicious Ghost-class Evils. Ineffective against Creatures, even harmless ones.

Method of Use: Simple. Infuse it with your own energy and throw it at the target. It will automatically stick to the target and immobilize them.

Classification: D-Class. Not dangerous; controllable.

Note: None.]

”I know about this thing. I heard that when it was being confiscated, a gifted from the Operations Department accidentally got hit with it and was beaten to a pulp by that old Daoist. Afterward, the old Daoist gave them the talisman as compensation, and the matter was dropped.”

One of the captains said, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. That incident was legendary within the city’s Cleaner division at the time.

The story goes that the team member who got hit had gotten a bit arrogant after becoming a gifted. On top of being a public servant, he was also extremely rude, even obnoxious.

This led to the enraged Daoist launching a surprise attack and giving the unlucky bastard a thorough thrashing.

[Item No. C-13: Pen Immortal

Origin: Shanghai No. 1 Middle School. On April 21, 2019, several students played the Pen Immortal game in a girls’ dormitory at midnight. Three of them died, and one suffered a complete mental breakdown.

Effect: You can ask it certain things, for example, whether your significant other is cheating on you. Or perhaps the winning numbers for the next lottery?

Method of Use: Prepare a blank sheet of paper and lay it flat on a table. Hold the pen and silently chant: ”Pen Immortal, Pen Immortal, I am your life in this world. To continue our fated bond, please draw a circle on this page.”

When it begins to draw a circle on its own, you may ask your question.

Classification: Dangerous, but controllable.

Note: The questioner will suffer from bad luck, the severity of which is equivalent to the value of the question asked. Be sure to burn the paper after you are finished!! Do not, under any circumstances, ask any questions about the Pen Immortal itself!!]

”Couldn’t they have played something else? Why insist on playing a spirit-channeling game like that? Such a waste of three young lives.” The three of them sighed, looking at the picture of the green pencil in the file.

[Item No. B-09: Vile Vial

Origin: Shanghai Medical University, April 30, 2019. A product of a medical laboratory. It mutated due to a massive outpouring of energy from a newly appeared Netherworld Fissure.

Effect: The red liquid is extremely lethal. The blue liquid can trap a person in an illusion that is extremely difficult to escape. The yellow liquid, despite looking like some kind of animal urine, is life-saving, greatly mitigating external and internal bleeding. The purple liquid has random effects; it could be a life-saving panacea or a fatal poison. The white liquid is extremely rare; it can significantly increase one’s resistance to Illusion Techniques and slightly enhance a person’s Spiritual Power. The black liquid has only appeared once, causing a lab mouse to awaken.

Method of Use: As described above. Simply place it aside and wait.

Classification: Dangerous.

Note: Under no circumstances should you drink the purple liquid. Out of more than a thousand trials, only one test subject survived; all others died instantly. Additionally, it is best to keep it sealed, as we have discovered it emits an alluring scent.

This scent causes nearby creatures to unconsciously pick up the vial and drink the potion inside. When in use, it must be handled by a gifted individual with spiritual abilities or one with a high resistance to temptation.]

”Good thing we’re only taking the liquids and not the vial itself. By the way, how many vials did the Energy Research Lab give us?”
