Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

After putting on the Prayer Water Necklace, Lin Yu sent a message to Li Hua.

[May May: I’ve received the item, thank you.]

Lin Yu then flattened and folded the box Li Hua had sent—even though he wasn’t short on money now, he still had the awareness and habit of wanting to collect cardboard boxes and empty bottles to sell for cash.

It wasn’t so much about frugality, but more like a poverty-induced, inertial habit.

Even when it wasn’t necessary, he still felt compelled to do it.

Li Hua’s reply came quickly.

[Haicheng - Li Hua: Good, the points should be credited to your account soon too.]

[Haicheng - Li Hua: Also, regarding the handling of matters related to the ’Player Mutual Aid Association’, if there are any new follow-ups or developments, I will inform you as well.]

[Haicheng - Li Hua: This includes the investigation into ’Radish’. Although he is already dead, I still find it questionable why he chose to ’attempt a breakthrough to the Fourth Tier’ while underprepared. So, if I discover new leads, I might also come to consult your opinion.]

Looking at Li Hua’s reply, Lin Yu was somewhat surprised.

”This Li Hua really is treating me like a successor and a confidant he’s grooming...”

Although Lin Yu had participated in solving the mystery of ’Radish’s’ death, objectively speaking, he probably had no right to know about the ”follow-up” actions ’Order’ was taking against the well-known ’Player Mutual Aid Association’.

At the very least, Li Hua, this Haicheng Game Master, had no real need to specially update him on these matters.

Old Zheng was placed by Lin Yu on one side of the desk, looking like some kind of weirdly shaped, quirky creative lamp.

He also ”saw” the content on the screen. After Lin Yu’s sigh, Old Zheng spoke up.

”Not bad, it seems this ’Gambler’ really thinks highly of you. Not only is he willing to tell you the follow-up, he even specifically mentioned he’d come to ’consult’ you about questions later...”

”This can be taken as a kind of ’signal’—based on my years of experience as a psychologist, he really does seem to be intentionally grooming you.”

”First the ’Hacker’, now the ’Gambler’... If it weren’t for the fact that the ones eyeing you are equally terrifying, this kind of backing could practically guarantee you a worry-free life.”

Lin Yu shook his head. ”Li Hua is still different from my senior. Even if he thinks highly of me, given his inherent position within ’Order’, I can’t possibly trust him completely.”

”Getting some benefits and information from him is already the ’limit’.”

Hearing Lin Yu’s analysis, Old Zheng spoke helplessly, ”What more do you want? A figure close to the core circle of ’Order’ is willing to leak information to you and wants to groom you—you should be thanking your lucky stars!”

”This is a rare opportunity, and your identity is relatively ’clean’ now too... My goodness, you might actually become a big shot in ’Order’ in the future, right?”

”Thinking about it is too amusing, then I really need to figure out how to help you properly!”

As Old Zheng marveled, Lin Yu began to ponder.

”It’s still far too early... But if there’s a chance to slightly raise my ’internal standing’ without exposing myself, I definitely should.”

Old Zheng said, ”Hey, I’ve got an idea... Since Li Hua just mentioned he still has some doubts about Radish’s motives—how about we try to figure that out?”

Lin Yu was a bit stunned. ”How do we figure that out?”

”Find a way to get some of his belongings. After his death, his soul was forcibly maintained by ’Pure Abyss secret arts’, so it definitely didn’t dissipate immediately... If we can get something containing remnants of his spirit, I can use my ability to repair his soul to a certain extent... Not enough to resurrect him, but enough to glimpse some of his memories.”

”Séance?”

Lin Yu tentatively asked.

”It’s ’Psychic Construction’... Well, it’s not really different from séance,” Old Zheng sighed. ”Anyway, we can try, but don’t get your hopes up.”

Stiller, who was sitting in a corner of the room reading a book, suddenly looked up. ”If you can get something, you could use the notebook you obtained from Vale Valetti.”

Lin Yu reacted. ”Oh, right, we really could try that!”

Old Zheng was surprised. ”What notebook?”

”A [item] obtained from Sleepless City. It has some uses like ’scene recreation based on memories’ or something similar. I’m still figuring it out,” Lin Yu said seriously. ”If it can achieve the ideal effect... I might even be able to dig out that ’Twenty’ who invaded my dreams!”

”After all, Radish must have met him.”

Old Zheng also got excited. ”You have an item like that? I really want to see it!”

”Let’s not delay. We should hurry and sneak off to Haicheng. They definitely haven’t cremated Radish’s body yet. If we find out where it is, we might be able to steal it.”

Looking at the excited Old Zheng, Lin Yu felt that if this brain still had limbs, it would definitely be rubbing its hands together and dancing about.

Unfortunately, although this guy was somewhat clever, he seemed limited by his former status as a core member of the ’Psychological Society’, his thinking somewhat confined to established patterns.

”Why would I need to steal it? Didn’t you just analyze that Li Hua trusts me a lot?”

Lin Yu helplessly continued typing a message on his phone.

[May May: If the investigation into ’Radish’ hits a bottleneck, you could try sending me one or two personal effects that might contain remnants of his soul—I have an item I just obtained from a previous dungeon that can achieve effects similar to séance.]

[May May: No guarantee of results, but we can try.]

A few seconds after he put down his phone, message notification sounds chimed one after another.

[Haicheng - Li Hua: [Image], [Image], [Image]]

[Haicheng - Li Hua: These are respectively samples of Radish Grandpa’s hair and skin tissue, his wallet, and the ’items’ he left behind.]

[Haicheng - Li Hua: If you can guarantee no damage and timely return, I can send you all three.]

[Haicheng - Li Hua: But I need to go through procedures to retrieve them, so it will probably take three or four days. With shipping, it might arrive next Wednesday—if you’re in a hurry, I can ask ’Nicholas’ to help deliver it.]

Lin Yu waved his phone at Old Zheng—though he wasn’t sure how Old Zheng could see the phone screen’s content.

”See, Old Zheng, ’Order’ is a proper organization. If you have a need, you can just talk directly to your superior.”

”It’s quite different from your ’Psychological Society’.”

Although mocked, Old Zheng wasn’t angry at all, only offering a feeble defense for the ’Psychological Society’.

”Our internal environment is relatively harmonious too, you know... Although it can’t compare to ’Order’, everyone gathered together because they shared the same beliefs.”

”And then you were killed by Fluoxetine.”

Lin Yu said disdainfully.

Old Zheng finally got worked up. ”What about it? Weren’t you killed by her too?!”
