Reborn in the 90s with a Space: Winning Back My Husband

Realizing what he was thinking, Gu Yaohui gave a wry smile. He hadn’t even confirmed that Shen Nian was his daughter, yet he could already feel a father’s pride welling up inside him.

”Yaohui, what are you smiling at? Does this mean you agree to go find Ke’er right now?”

Gong Shiya’s mind was completely occupied with her daughter; she had no energy to spare for guessing what was truly on Gu Yaohui’s mind.

Besides, after being confined to her sickbed for so many years, Gong Shiya’s outlook had become much, much simpler than it once was.

”Shiya, please listen. Hengzhi and I have been searching for Ke’er’s whereabouts. We just found a small lead recently. Once we’re able to confirm it, we promise we’ll bring Ke’er to see you right away.”

”If you already have a lead, then why won’t you take me to see her? I’ll know if it’s my Ke’er! I’d recognize her in an instant!”

”Shiya, it’s not that I don’t want to take you. It’s just that before we know for sure, I... I don’t want to scare her.”

”’Scare her?’” Gong Shiya looked at Gu Yaohui, confused. Then, the color suddenly drained from her face.

”Is it how I look now? Is it frightening? Yes, that must be it. I look too frightening, and that’s why you’re worried I’ll scare our daughter, Yaohui. What do I do? What do I do? I don’t want to scare our daughter either! What am I going to do?”

As she spoke, Gong Shiya raised her hands to cover her face, her expression fraught with anxiety.

”It’s alright, Shiya, don’t be afraid. It’s alright.”

Gu Yaohui had only been trying to buy a little time. He never expected his words would cause Gong Shiya so much fear, and a pang of regret shot through him.

”Aunt, don’t worry. You just look a little haggard right now. Once you’ve had some time to recover, you’ll surely feel much better. Then you won’t need to worry about scaring Cousin Ke’er. Coincidentally, we met an excellent doctor who gave us some great recipes for medicinal soups. A proper diet is the best medicine, after all. All you have to do is focus on getting your strength back, Aunt. Just leave everything else to me and Uncle.”

Gu Hengzhi stepped forward to help Gu Yaohui reassure her, seizing the perfect opportunity to openly mention where the medicinal recipes had come from.

”Really?”

Gong Shiya’s expression eased considerably at Gu Hengzhi’s words, but she still seemed to have some questions.

”Of course it’s true, Aunt. When have I ever lied to you?”

”Okay... I believe you. So, what should I do?”

”All you need to do, Aunt, is focus on getting better and wait for the day you can see Cousin Ke’er.”

”Alright, I’ll listen to you both. I’ll focus on getting better. I’ll get myself into the best possible health, so I won’t frighten my Ke’er!”

It took a great deal of coaxing from Gu Yaohui before Gong Shiya finally drifted off to sleep. Once she was sleeping soundly, Gu Yaohui made his way to the study.

Gu Hengzhi was already there, waiting for him.

”Uncle, about what I said earlier...”

”Hengzhi, you don’t have to explain. I understand. You were just thinking of your aunt. And this is good. It’s been such a long time since I’ve seen Shiya’s face so animated.”

Thinking of Gong Shiya’s expression, Gu Yaohui couldn’t help but smile. ’It wasn’t just Shiya who hadn’t been so animated in ages; he felt the same way.’
