First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

That one rhetorical question sent Secretary Qiu into deep thought. It seemed... true.

The people surrounding Lu Ding were all freaks beyond measure.

Every single one of them was so absurd they hardly seemed human, and each had an outrageously eccentric personality, all wildly different in their own unique ways. Put plainly, every last one of them, if let loose, could single-handedly throw the entire world into chaos.

Only Lu Ding could keep them under control.

The moment Lu Ding was gone, this family would fall apart, and this world would descend into chaos.

If something ever happened to Lu Ding...

They would probably band together to create a world that had Lu Ding in it, and blame the current world for his absence.

Secretary Qiu said helplessly, ”Then you’d better keep her close. She’s more dangerous than any of the previous ones.”

”Someone like Wang Qingge is the type who’s dangerous without even realizing it. Lei Xiao, on the other hand, knows exactly how dangerous she is, but she’s completely unrestrained. She herself is danger.”Lu Ding replied, ”Don’t worry, I’ll definitely keep her with me. But if I ever go to the First Circle one day, then it’ll be hard to say.”

Secretary Qiu’s heart instantly tightened. Right... Lu Ding was developing so fast. If he went to the First Circle, what would happen to these people?

Great Han couldn’t handle them.

Couldn’t control these people at all.

Laws and regulations? Bullshit. Get lost, cool off somewhere far away. I don’t know how to read, and I do whatever I damn well please.

Brother Lu’s words? Heavenly law. Wherever he tells me to go, I go. Whatever he tells me to do, I do.

Just picturing that scene sent a chill down Secretary Qiu’s spine. ”Lu Ding, you’d better slow down your ascension. At least wait until they’ve built unbreakable bonds with Great Han before you ascend. Don’t ascend too early. How could the higher realms possibly be better than Great Han? Up there, there are no phones, no internet, none of your beloved friends and sworn brothers.”

Lu Ding couldn’t help but burst out laughing. ”Hahahahahahaha.......”

Secretary Qiu grew anxious. ”Don’t laugh! I’m serious. It can’t be done. It really can’t be done. If you’re not around, won’t they tear the heavens down? Even now, you’re still in the Second Circle. You’re just not in New City, and New City is already about to flip. Huangfu Lingyun drags Bai Hemen and the others into fights every single day. Even without missions, they go out looking for someone to fight.”

”Huangfu Lingyun dares to think and dares to act, utterly reckless. The others don’t even think about it. They just follow along and charge right in. Even Xinghe can’t hold them back. And Feifan has so much on his plate. The moment he’s not paying attention, they’ve gone out and wrecked something again.”

Secretary Qiu poured it all out like beans from a bamboo tube.

He described the situation in New City over this period.

The Western region was relatively stable, so there wasn’t that much to deal with. Which left Bai Hemen, Huangfu Lingyun, and the others feeling like they had energy to spare and nowhere to vent it.

Building up everywhere!!!

East, South, North, fighting everywhere. Cross-district enforcement, enforcement without paperwork, edge-of-the-line enforcement. As investigators, even when the other side was a special envoy from another district, they’d slap them across the face. Subordinates defying superiors.

Their whole motto was: above the law, but never harm the common people.

They grew fast, too, with the Lü Mountain immortal masters giving them extra tutoring.

Different every single day.

Campaigning in all directions, their whole thing was just the thrill of battle.

No matter where someone was from, as long as they ran to the Western region and said they’d been treated unfairly or harmed by demons, the Western Legion would deploy immediately!

Charging forward with zero hesitation. Procedures? What are procedures? They’re all Warrior Generals. They don’t understand that stuff. Go talk to Brother Feifan about it.

They just did things!!!

Cross-district? So what if it’s cross-district? Push us far enough and we’ll cross provinces, believe it or not! Cross countries, even!?

Celestial Master Zhu, who was stationed over there, was also hot-tempered, explosive, and fiercely protective of his own. If Bai Hemen and the others took three steps, he’d follow two.

With a lineup like that.

Add Bai Hemen and Huangfu Lingyun, the two leaders, who had the fate of cockroaches that couldn’t be killed.

It was absurd beyond all reason.

If Lu Ding and Yan Feifan hadn’t decided against recruiting the rest of the East, South, and North Three Regions, they could have immediately launched a unified campaign and madly attacked the other three regions.

They’d even clashed with Ying Gou and his people.

The main principle was simple: there’s a difference between close and distant.

Huangfu Lingyun and Bai Hemen: ”We’re Brother Lu’s direct line. You’re at best a branch. What are you acting so cocky for? What, you trying to compete for favor? Beat him up!!”

Lu Ding listened and said, ”This Zhang Wei......”

”He’s really that outrageous?”

Secretary Qiu didn’t know how many times he’d sighed by now. ”Outrageous doesn’t even begin to cover it. He’s about to flip the heavens. He’s got too many schemes, and most importantly, he can even con Bai Hemen and the others into going along with them.”

”The moment Huangfu Lingyun shouts ’I’ve got an idea,’ Bai Hemen doesn’t even want to go. But Zhang Wei gives him one more push, and suddenly Bai Hemen’s all ’I’m fine with anything,’ and the rest just follow whatever.”

”The word ’whatever’ landing in his ear means ’agreed,’ ’fine,’ ’let’s do it!!!’”

As Secretary Qiu spoke, his emotions got the better of him, and he slapped his palm with the back of his hand. ”Tell me, Lu Ding, tell me! How is this not flipping the heavens? And New City is still under New Governance, which practically makes it their breeding ground.”

”If you throw Lei Xiao into the mix, all of them your direct line, I’m honestly afraid that without you even knowing, they’ll secretly drape a yellow imperial robe on you. By the time you snap out of it, they’ll have already built you a whole country.”

”Oh my heavens, just talking about it is making my blood pressure spike. Really, you absolutely cannot ascend too early.”

Lu Ding hesitated. ”Surely not?”

Secretary Qiu’s expression turned to shock. ”Surely not?”

”He carries the Imperial Seal around every day, declaring that he has received the Mandate of Heaven and his lifespan shall prosper forever. When asked what heaven, he says it’s the Son of Heaven’s heaven. As a direct subordinate of Lu Ding, seated beneath the Son of Heaven, he’ll even pull out his credentials and show them to people, making sure they see clearly that he answers directly to you. Do you think he can or can’t?”

Lu Ding: .......

”That’s not right. When did he become my direct subordinate?”

Secretary Qiu paused. ”Ah, that’s the thing. Nobody expected that they’d form their own faction. After you left, the shortage of clerical staff in New City got worse day by day, so the higher-ups sent some political instructors. They refused to listen. Five instructors, three men and two women. They beat two female instructors to tears and ran off three male instructors.”

”One of the male instructors ran a bit too slowly. Bai Hemen dragged him back and beat him for three days. It wasn’t until Yan Feifan finished his work that the man was finally released.”

”Later, there was no other choice. New City couldn’t go without clerical staff. So Yan Feifan assigned them under your direct command, under his proxy administration. They don’t take orders from instructors, accept deployment but not declarations. But Feifan is busy too. They’ve been growing completely wild, and the problem is they grow fast.....”

There was no other way. Secretary Qiu truly had no other way.

If Lu Ding’s earlier words hadn’t struck a nerve, he wouldn’t have said any of this. He genuinely didn’t dare imagine what would happen if Lu Ding left and left behind a Lei Xiao who believed in ”Boss Lu first, Boss Lu second, Heaven third,” paired up with Bai Hemen, Huangfu Lingyun, and the rest.

”Then... could the instructors take over Feifan’s work, and Feifan go manage them instead?”

Secretary Qiu replied, ”You think Feifan isn’t stubborn too? He’s just a little better about it.”

”He won’t do it. Whatever you hand over to him, he won’t let go of even an inch. Even though he’s built New City into something orderly, flourishing, and with a bright future, even if it means working himself to exhaustion, he refuses to let others interfere. He doesn’t trust anyone else.”

”The moment an instructor says one word too many, your Twin Stars of New City will make sure that instructor suffers.”

Secretary Qiu’s emotions eased a bit as he got to this point. ”Of course, you know me. I’m not here to tattle. These are all minor issues. As long as New City is developing well and they haven’t committed any major wrongdoings.”

”None of this is a big deal.”

”But I really can’t bear to imagine, if you leave behind a Lei Xiao who can’t be killed, and then ascend yourself, what kind of situation that would be. Just thinking about it terrifies me.”
