First-Year Internship—And You Went to Site 749 to Contain Monsters?!

“At that time, there weren’t these barriers, nor these walls.”

As he spoke, the counselor pointed at the innermost and second ring of ice walls surrounding the center.

“Back then, only the outermost edge had an ice wall, and even that wall wasn’t the kind of ‘ice’ we commonly think of.”

“It’s just that its appearance resembled ice, so it was named the Ice Wall.”

“The outermost Ice Wall formed from the centrifugal force during our world’s rotation, flinging out and piling up materials.”

“Later, as the rotation weakened, the force declined, and the second Ice Wall gradually formed—again due to material accumulation. Then came the Ice Wall enclosing the continents and oceans we live on now.”

“That’s how the three Ice Walls came to be.”

“Eventually, with rotation ceasing altogether, the three Ice Walls stabilized, and no new walls formed.”

Listening to all this, Lu Ding found it dreamlike. But then again, considering he had transmigrated, awakened a golden finger, and was living in a world full of monsters and Cultivators of Qi—It didn’t seem so unbelievable.

But Bai Hemen had questions. He raised his hand.

The counselor looked at him: “Go ahead.”

“If the world we live in is like a coin, how was it a sphere before? Was it flattened?”

The counselor smiled and looked at Lu Ding: “What do you think?”

Lu Ding picked up a coin, stood it upright on the table, and flicked it with force.

As the coin spun quickly, to the naked eye—it looked like a sphere.

“See? There’s your sphere.”

Bai Hemen nodded: “Oh~ so that’s how it is... got it.”

The coin’s spin slowed more and more, until it collapsed flat on the table again.

At that moment, the counselor continued:

“As rotation slowed, the things previously flung away by centrifugal force slowly began to settle toward the center. The most noticeable example is oxygen.”

“In the past, the oxygen levels in our part of the world were quite low—because it had been flung out, accumulating in the third ring.”

“After the rotation weakened, oxygen levels rose, which led to the emergence of many large prehistoric creatures—like dinosaurs, giant dragonflies, giant centipedes, giant millipedes, and so on.”

“Do you know why they no longer exist?”

Bai Hemen didn’t answer. He knew he was only half-versed in this stuff, so he stayed quiet.

Lu Ding spoke: “Because of the formation of the second and third Ice Walls?”

The counselor nodded: “Exactly. Their formation was due to material accumulation, and perhaps for that reason, they began to attract more of the same material.”

“So in a way, they replaced some functions of the former rotation—but with less efficiency.”

“Therefore, current oxygen levels, while not as high as the dinosaur era, are still higher than during peak rotation.”

“Same goes for spiritual energy.”

Lu Ding pondered while listening. Once the counselor finished, he asked:

“So can I understand it like this: the third ring we’re in has lower oxygen and spiritual energy than the second and first rings?”

Counselor: “Correct.”

Bai Hemen suddenly lit up as if he understood something: “So the second ring has dinosaurs?”

“That it doesn’t—at least I’ve never heard of any. They’re probably extinct too. But the second ring does have a lot of creatures from mythology.”

“Many of the mythical stories and places you know of have real counterparts in the second ring.”

Now that got Lu Ding’s attention—he was no longer sleepy.

He hadn’t even asked his next question yet.

Bai Hemen, not satisfied with the answer, thought for a while and asked again: “What about the first ring? Are there dinosaurs in the first ring?”

Lu Ding: .....

Counselor: ......

This kid’s obsession with dinosaurs is something else.

The counselor didn’t brush him off, though—he gave it real thought: “That, I don’t know. Maybe. Because the first ring’s ecosystem is still mostly unknown to us.”

“Right now, the areas where the Great Han operates are only the second and third rings.”

“Someday, we’ll go see for ourselves.”

Lu Ding agreed:

Bai Hemen: “Alright.”

The counselor folded up the map: “That’s the gist of it. Go get your things—we’ll head to the Dragon Wall shortly. After that, you can take a trip back to Yunhai.”

“Once everyone else finishes the process, it’ll be time for the East Asia Battle Royale.”

That plan sounded good to Lu Ding.

Perfect time to strengthen his cultivation, hit peak condition, then return to Yunhai and deal with school affairs.

Just as he was thinking that—

The counselor suddenly asked excitedly: “Do you know where the Dragon Wall is?”

Lu Ding thought for a second. If this flat-earth stuff was true, then could it be: “North Pole? South Pole?”

“Hahaha... wrong—it’s the East Pole and West Pole. Bet you didn’t see that coming, huh? Never heard of it, right? Hahaha.....”

Seeing Lu Ding’s utterly confused face—

The counselor finally smiled with satisfaction.

“The North and South Poles were the poles of rotation back when our world was a sphere—our planet’s rotational axis.”

“The ice walls there are the thickest.”

“No point going there.”

“But the East and West Poles? They didn’t exist as a geographic term before—because the ‘sphere’ spun, and the spin direction was east-west.”

“Now that it’s stopped spinning, we get East and West Poles. That’s where the ice walls are thinnest.”

Lu Ding ran through the logic in his head, recalling the flat coin image: “On the equator?”

“Exactly. The East and West Poles lie on the equator, and unlike the North and South Poles, they aren’t harsh environments.”

“Wouldn’t that mean going abroad?”

As far as Lu Ding knew, Great Han didn’t have any territory on the equator.

“Not too far—next door in Hetu Country. I’ll take you there myself, let’s go!”

The counselor led the two out the main gate, strutting like a victorious rooster.

The three arrived at the training base’s airfield.

He pointed at the dozens of coldly painted, sleek-looking aircraft:

“Last time you two progressed too fast—these babies hadn’t even been delivered yet, so we couldn’t use them. But this time, we’re flying.”

“Take your pick. Whichever one you like—we’ll ride that one.”

Looking at the slick machines—

Lu Ding couldn’t pretend he wasn’t excited.

Beside him, Bai Hemen’s eyes were practically sparkling.

The two carefully chose a black-painted, ultra-futuristic-looking plane.

They both pointed at it: “This one!” x2

Clap~ Clap~ Clap~

The counselor applauded beside them: “Good taste! I thought it was the coolest too. Let’s go!”
