Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 42: Chapter 41: A Sudden Battle (Part 2)

”Watch out! That’s a Commander Level Gale Wolf!” Liu Changfeng bellowed, his equipment picking up the energy fluctuations from the second Pet Beast that had just appeared.

”This is going to be trouble.”

Li Qian’s brow furrowed at the sight. ”That guy... he might try to destroy the reservoir dam and use it as leverage!”

The reservoir dam, built entirely of reinforced concrete, looked incredibly sturdy. But against a Commander Level Gale Wolf, it wouldn’t last more than a few hits.

If the dam were destroyed, it would be an undeniable disaster for all of Lingshui City.

Fortunately, the Lingshui River skirted the edge of the city rather than running through its center; otherwise, the disaster would be exponentially worse.

Even so, it had to be avoided if at all possible.

At that moment, though Li Qian and Liu Changfeng didn’t speak, they reached a rare, unspoken understanding.

The Fire Mastiff attacked first. A thick pillar of fire shot out, aimed straight for the Gale Wolf and the Black Divine Teachings Cultist standing beside it.

It was the Skill, Flame Spray.

At the same time, Qizai joined the attack.

A massive Wind Blade, nearly two meters long, shot forward at incredible speed.

It was none other than the Skill, Gale Slash.

To support the Fire Mastiff, using a Water Skill right now was out of the question.

They could only use Wind Skills.

As for the Sparrow-tailed Fish, it could only watch from the sidelines.

It didn’t have a single non-Water Skill. Using a Skill at this moment would likely do more harm than good.

Of course, that didn’t mean it was completely useless.

”Sparrow-tailed Fish, keep watch for me. Be on the lookout for any other Pet Beasts that might appear.”

Li Qian hadn’t forgotten that this Black Divine Teachings Cultist was Commander Level.

In addition to the Violent Salamander and the Gale Wolf, he still had a third Pet Beast.

As the battle erupted, Liu Changfeng shouted to Li Qian while directing his Vajra Ape, ”I’ve already sent a message for reinforcements! We just need to hold him off!”

But then, Liu Changfeng seemed to realize something and quickly corrected himself. ”No, I’ll hold him off! You find a way to get out of here!”

Li Qian knew why Liu Changfeng had suddenly changed his tune.

But he knew full well he couldn’t get out of this.

This Black Divine Teachings Cultist was after the Sparrow-tailed Fish—or more accurately, he was after him.

”It’s fine. I can provide some help holding them back,” Li Qian said, shaking his head. ”Don’t underestimate what Qizai and I can do.”

With that, he gave a silent command. ’Tornado!’

Liu Changfeng responded in kind, using Dragon Flame Song.

The wind fanned the flames, instantly creating a terrifying, overwhelming force.

The Dragon-shaped Flame and the draconic whirlwind merged, creating a synergistic effect far greater than the sum of its parts.

Even though the Gale Wolf was also a Wind Element type, it had no choice but to take such a terrifying assault seriously.

In the end, under the Cultist’s command, the Gale Wolf chose to evade the brunt of the attack.

It carried its master, leaping over the dam at incredible speed and landing on the opposite bank of the reservoir.

Qizai and the Fire Mastiff gave chase without hesitation.

Li Qian thought for a moment and decided not to follow immediately. Instead, he hung back, directing his Pet Beast from a distance.

When Liu Changfeng saw that a mere Tier Nine Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon could exhibit the combat prowess of an Elite High Order beast—and coordinate so perfectly with his Fire Mastiff—he grew even more eager.

’If only I had a contracted Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon right now. Dealing with this Black Divine Teachings Cultist would give me an incredible advantage.’

”Stay cautious.” Seeing that Li Qian looked ready to charge in, Liu Changfeng warned him again. ”Pin them down if you can, but if you can’t, your own safety comes first.”

Li Qian took Liu Changfeng’s words to heart.

He didn’t dare let his guard down for a second.

’Listening to him is definitely the right move.’

And he was proven right. The very next moment after the warning, a black shadow swooped down from the sky, accompanied by a piercing cry.

”SCREEE!”

Thanks to Liu Changfeng’s warning, Li Qian reacted instantly.

He looked at the Sparrow-tailed Fish in the water and commanded, ”High-Pressure Water Cannon!”

At that moment, as if it were his own Contracted Pet Beast, the Sparrow-tailed Fish instinctively unleashed the High-Pressure Water Cannon Skill to meet the incoming black shadow.

”Watch out, that’s a Tier Eight Elite Big-beaked Kite!” Liu Changfeng’s warning came at the exact moment the High-Pressure Water Cannon fired.

BAM!

The High-Pressure Water Cannon and the Big-beaked Kite collided in mid-air.

The Big-beaked Kite’s long, sharp beak pierced straight through the blast of water, shattering it. However, the immense kinetic energy of the High-Pressure Water Cannon still knocked the creature back.

”Be careful! The Big-beaked Kite is a bird, but it’s not a Wind Element type. It’s an attributeless pet beast!” Liu Changfeng called out, relieved to see the High-Pressure Water Cannon had repelled it.

In this Beast Taming World, not all Pet Beasts were defined by an attribute.

Some Pet Beasts were born without any specific attribute.

Of course, this didn’t mean that an attributeless pet beast was weak.

In theory, an attributeless pet beast could learn Skills of any attribute.

Admittedly, learning them could be more difficult, and the power of those Skills might be weaker than when used by a Pet Beast of the corresponding attribute. But with the right combination of moves, the power they could unleash was not to be underestimated.

And they possessed another advantage.
