Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Awakening

Li Qian transmigrated to a Beast Taming World.

He even awakened a research system.

At first, he was a little baffled by the situation.

It felt like his Golden Finger was a bit off-track.

It wasn’t until he tried to create a research task that he realized it wasn’t his Golden Finger that was off-track, but that he hadn’t found the right way to use it.

[Research Task: The Koi Carp’s Evolution Method]

The Koi Carp was one of the most common Pet Beasts in this Beast Taming World.

It was hailed as one of the ”Four Wastes” of the Pet Beast Realm.

It only mastered a single Skill—”Fish Jump.”

Forget fighting other Pet Beasts; even a regular person could handle it with ease.

And it was easy to raise.

When its red-and-white fins fanned out, they were as beautiful as a peacock’s tail.

Thus, many families kept Koi Carp as ornamental fish.

Li Qian’s family also had one in their fish tank.

Three months ago, right after he had transmigrated to this world and awakened the research system, he had casually created this research task because he saw the Koi Carp in the tank.

He never expected it to give him such a huge surprise.

Li Qian remembered a certain Cultivation Master once saying on TV: There are no useless Pet Beasts, only useless Beast Masters.

The Koi Carp was a perfect testament to this saying.

In certain special environments and under extremely harsh conditions, a very small number of Koi Carp could supposedly evolve into a Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon, a creature with a Racial Potential reaching the Dominator Level.

Unfortunately, such cases were too rare, and the few times Breeders had witnessed it were always in the wild.

This was why, even though Breeders had always been researching the Koi Carp, the Beast Taming Realm had yet to develop a fixed evolutionary path from Koi Carp to Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon.

In the three months since he used his Golden Finger to create the research task on the Koi Carp’s evolution method, Li Qian had come to know the creature like the back of his hand through various means, such as the internet, the Beast Taming High School library, and consulting his breeding class teacher.

But when he looked at the number on the system panel—[Current Task Progress: 55%]—he couldn’t help but shake his head helplessly.

It seemed there was a good reason why no Breeder had managed to figure out a fixed evolutionary path for the Koi Carp yet.

The research difficulty was just too damn high.

Right now, Li Qian was certain that the Koi Carp’s evolution was definitely related to its only Skill, its Racial Skill, ”Fish Jump.”

It was very likely that this Skill needed to be trained to the level of Perfection.

Of course, that alone was surely not enough.

Otherwise, the Koi Carp’s evolutionary path would have been discovered long ago.

So what was the missing condition?

Li Qian was quite troubled.

’If I’d known it would be like this, I shouldn’t have so casually created the research task in the first place.’

Now, he had no choice but to see it through to the bitter end.

Because there was only one task slot on the system panel, which meant that if this research task—The Koi Carp’s Evolution Method—was not completed, he wouldn’t be able to create a new one.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Li Qian sat cross-legged on his bed and began to meditate.

His Spiritual Power had already reached 9.9.

He was just 0.1 away from awakening his Beast Taming Space and Beast Taming Talent.

The most urgent task was to complete the awakening first.

The Meditation Method was taught by the meditation teacher at the Beast Taming High School.

It could increase a Beast Master’s Spiritual Power.

And only when one’s Spiritual Power met the standard could they awaken a Beast Taming Space and Beast Taming Talent.

There were only about three months left until graduation from Beast Taming High School. If he couldn’t awaken his Beast Taming Space, his chances of attending a Beast Taming University were basically zero.

Even if he awakened after graduation, his hopes would be dashed unless his Beast Taming Talent was astonishing enough to earn him a special admission slot.

That’s why recently, Li Qian’s parents had started considering whether they should spend some money on Spiritual Power Potions.

Li Qian, however, wasn’t too worried.

He could feel that his breakthrough was imminent; he wouldn’t need three months at all.

Meditating cross-legged on his bed, his consciousness wandered in a pitch-black space.

Suddenly, a faint blue light flickered within the pitch-black space.

The faint blue light continuously expanded, growing larger and larger, until it finally formed a space roughly ten meters in length, width, and height.

It was like a pale blue cube appearing in the dark night sky.

In the room, on the bed, Li Qian slowly opened his eyes, the corners of his mouth curving into a faint smile. ”So this is my Beast Taming Space. I’ve finally awakened.”

After muttering to himself, he closed his eyes again to feel it out carefully. ”Let’s see what my Beast Taming Talent is.”

The next moment, a stream of information shot into his mind.

Along with the influx of information came a cool sensation, but it didn’t enter his mind—it entered his eyes.

”My Talent is the Eye of True Sight. Not bad.”

Li Qian nodded slightly.

The Eye of True Sight, as its name implied, could see a Pet Beast’s true information.

Of course, this Talent also had its limits.

First, he couldn’t be too far from the Pet Beast.

Second, unless the Pet Beast completely lowered its guard and was without any defenses, he could only see the information of Pet Beasts no more than one major realm above his own strength.

Ignoring that it was the middle of the night, Li Qian got up, left his room, and went to the living room.

He turned on the living room light and focused his attention on a large fish tank next to the TV stand.

Inside the tank, a beautiful Koi Carp about half a meter long with red-and-black fins was swimming leisurely.

As his gaze focused, in the next moment, his Beast Taming Talent activated.

A series of lines appeared before his eyes:

[Name: Koi Carp]

[Attribute: Water]

[Level: Tier Three]

[Potential: Tier Three]

[Skills: Fish Jump (Perfection)]

This was all the information on the Koi Carp his family was raising.

What surprised Li Qian was that its Fish Leaping Skill had actually reached the Perfection Level.

But on second thought, it made sense. This Koi Carp was said to have been raised by his maternal grandfather before he passed away. His grandfather had been gone for five years, so by that calculation, this fellow was even a bit older than him.

It wasn’t impossible for it to have ground out the Fish Jump Skill to Perfection.

Looking at the information before him and considering his Golden Finger Research System, Li Qian realized that he seemed to be more suited to becoming a Breeder than a Beast Master.

At this thought, he couldn’t help but think of the research task he had created again.

The Koi Carp’s evolution method.

If it was related to the Skill, then he definitely needed to raise the Fish Jump’s level as much as possible.

However, as far as he knew, the highest Skill Level was Perfection.

’It can’t possibly require surpassing Perfection, can it?’

As he was thinking this, a system notification suddenly sounded in his mind.

[Inspiration Value +1]

[Current Progress 56%]

Hearing the system notification, Li Qian was stunned for a moment.

’Could it be... there really is a Skill Level beyond Perfection?!’

This meant the Koi Carp’s evolution required the Fish Leaping Skill’s level to surpass Perfection.
