A 10,000-fold Increase System, Picking Up Garbage and Becoming a Technology Giant

133: Chapter 133 Beyond the Cycle and the Beginning of New LifeHour Zero of the Sower’s harvester ship arriving in Earth’s orbit.

It did not attack immediately.

The giant ship, composed of countless rotating geometric shapes, hovered silently beyond the lunar orbit like a newborn celestial body.

Seen from Earth, it was slightly smaller than the moon, but its light was colder—not reflected sunlight, but a cold, silver-white glow emanating from itself.

All of humanity was waiting for the first wave of attacks to arrive.

But the attack did not come. Instead, a message was received.

It was not an electromagnetic wave, nor a quantum signal, but a form of telepathy that acted directly on the consciousness of Evolvers worldwide. It was gentle yet undeniable, like someone whispering softly in one’s ear.

”Leader of the seventh cycle, Chen Fan. I am the representative of the Sowers; you may call me Heng Shu. I request a dialogue with you, privately.”

This voice held no hostility, no threat; it was as calm as discussing the weather.

But the sense of power contained within it sent a chill through everyone who received it—this was not a request, but a declaration.

Chen Fan looked at the giant ship floating in space on the screen and remained silent for three seconds.

”Xiao Zhi, establish an isolated communication channel. Just him and me.”

”This might be a trap,” Su Qingyue said worriedly.

”If they were going to attack, they would have done so long ago.” Chen Fan shook his head. ”And... I want to hear what he has to say.”

The channel was established.

A figure appeared on the main screen of the command center.

It was not a physical entity, nor a holographic projection, but a more advanced form of manifestation—as if space itself were ”depicting” an existence.

He looked to be in his thirties, wearing a simple white robe without any ornamentation.

Most striking were his eyes: pure silver, without pupils, like two perfectly polished beads of mercury.

”Hello, Chen Fan.” Heng Shu nodded slightly, his movements as elegant as a gentleman’s. ”First, allow me to express my respect. Your ability to stand here and speak with me means you have accomplished three things: first, you found the Star Core Crystal and understood its nature; second, you integrated the legacies of the previous six cycles; and third, most importantly—you allowed the life of this cycle to achieve resonance.”

His voice was converted into human language by the translation system, but Chen Fan could feel that the essence of that voice transcended language, directly conveying concepts.

”What do you want to say?” Chen Fan asked directly.

”I want to tell you some truths,” Heng Shu said calmly, ”and... congratulate you.”

”Congratulate?”

”Yes.” A glint seemed to flash in Heng Shu’s silver eyes. ”For three billion years, Earth has undergone six complete cycles of civilization. Every cycle chose to resist after discovering the truth of the harvest, but none were like yours—it was not a resistance of a few elites, but the collective choice of the entire species.”

”And you...” Heng Shu pointed to the real-time data of Earth. ”The voluntary evolution rate is 61.7%, and that number is still slowly rising. More importantly—you gave everyone the right to choose. This is unprecedented.”

Chen Fan frowned. ”What do you mean by this? If you’re here to praise us, there’s no need.”

”I am not praising you; I am stating facts,” Heng Shu said. ”Because it is precisely this fact that has changed the rules of the game.”

He paused and continued:

”Do you know what the ’Sowers’ are? We are not ’scavengers of cosmic consciousness,’ at least not entirely.”

Heng Shu’s figure changed slightly, and an image of the universe appeared behind him—not the universe as it is now, but as it was at the dawn of its birth.

”In the first billion years after the birth of the universe, the first batch of primordial consciousnesses was born. They were composed of pure energy and mathematical laws, possessing no physical form but infinite wisdom and creativity. They created galaxies, physical laws, and... life.”

The image shifted, showing scenes of life sprouting on countless planets.

”But creation requires consumption. With every galaxy created, the primordial consciousnesses weakened. With every guidance of life’s evolution, the essence of their existence was diluted. At a certain critical point, the universe faced a choice: either stop creating and let the universe gradually cool and die, or find a recycling mechanism to recover the created life energy and reinject it into the creators.”

”So you chose harvesting,” Chen Fan said coldly.

”It was not a ’choice’; it is the survival instinct of the universe,” Heng Shu corrected. ”Just as the human body requires metabolism, the universe requires an energy cycle. And the ’Sowers’ are the... maintainers of this circulatory system.”

His tone remained calm, but the truth it contained was chilling:

”We sow life on suitable planets, guide their evolution, and wait for them to mature. Then we harvest, purifying the mature life energy and sending it back to the core of the universe to maintain the continuation of creativity. It is a perfect cycle. There is no good or evil, only survival.”

”And what about the lives being harvested?” Chen Fan questioned. ”What about their pain? Their freedom?”

”Pain is a part of the life experience,” Heng Shu said. ”And freedom... in a system destined for recycling, does talking about freedom have any meaning?”

He looked at Chen Fan, his silver eyes seemingly able to see through everything:

”But you broke the rules. Chen Fan, the Gene Resonance Protocol you modified—based on the principle of voluntariness and respect for individual choice—has created a brand-new life form: an autonomously evolving collective consciousness.”

”Life energy in this form cannot be purified by the harvesting system. The consciousness frequency is too complex, too dynamic, too... free.”

Chen Fan was stunned.

”You mean...”

”Yes.” Heng Shu nodded. ”Because of your choice, because of your protocol, the humans of Earth can no longer be harvested through standard procedures. The reason the harvester ship did not attack is not because we are merciful, but because an attack would be meaningless—it would be easy to kill you all, but we could not extract any usable life energy.”

Heng Shu was silent for a moment.

”That is an option,” he admitted, ”but not the one I wanted.”

”What do you want?”

”I want to...” Heng Shu hesitated rarely, ”observe.”

”Observe?”

”Yes.” His figure became slightly transparent, as if he were retrieving some data. ”For three billion years, as the Sower representative of this star sector, I have witnessed seven cycles of civilization on Earth. I have watched life evolve from single cells to intelligent civilizations, watched civilizations grow from sprouts to their peak, watched them discover the truth, resist, and then be harvested.”

”After every harvest, I return to the Sower headquarters, submit a report, and wait for the next sowing command. This is a task of infinite loops, which I have repeated one hundred and thirty-seven times—sowing, nurturing, and harvesting in different corners of the universe.”

For the first time, something akin to emotion appeared in his voice:

”But you are different. You are the first civilization to have an entire species voluntarily choose to evolve. You are the first civilization to share the legacies of previous civilizations equally. You are the first... civilization to make me curious.”

Heng Shu looked toward Earth, the image of the blue planet reflected in his silver eyes:

”I want to know, if given true freedom, where will you go? Will you become new predators? Will you destroy yourselves? Or will you find a path... that even the Sowers have never imagined?”

He looked back at Chen Fan:

”Therefore, I will not initiate the Purification Protocol. The harvester ship will remain in Earth’s orbit, but it will not attack. This is the greatest concession I can make.”

”And the conditions?” Chen Fan asked calmly. ”There’s no such thing as a free lunch in the universe.”

”Smart.” Heng Shu nodded slightly. ”There are two conditions. First, you must prove you are worthy of survival. Not through force, but through the height of your civilization—in the next hundred years, if you can maintain peace, resolve internal conflicts, and continue to evolve without collapsing, the Sowers will formally recognize your status as an autonomous civilization.”

”And the second?”

”Second...” Heng Shu’s expression became serious. ”You must face a true ordeal.”

He brought up a set of star maps. Beyond the outer reaches of the solar system, past the Kuiper Belt, several new signal sources were approaching.

”The harvester ship is not just a tool for harvesting; it is also an alarm. When life on a planet evolves to a point where it can no longer be harvested, it automatically sends a signal to notify... other entities in the universe.”

”What entities?”

”Those who do not follow the rules of the Sowers,” Heng Shu said. ”Predator civilizations, entropy worshipers, dimensional devourers... the Sowers are not the only high-level entities in the universe. And a young civilization that has just gained its freedom and is not yet stable is the most delicious prey in their eyes.”

Chen Fan’s heart sank.

”You mean, because we cannot be harvested, we will instead attract something even more dangerous?”

”Yes.” Heng Shu nodded. ”The Sowers’ harvest is at least efficient and painless—it is over before you even realize it. But those entities... they enjoy the process. They like watching civilizations struggle in despair, they enjoy collecting the pain of intelligent life, and they like crushing hope bit by bit.”

His voice carried a rare hint of warning:

”The signal has already been sent. According to calculations, the first batch of ’visitors’ will arrive in the solar system within a hundred years. Their power is far beyond your imagination, and your defense systems may be as fragile as paper before them.”

”Then why are you telling us this?” Chen Fan asked. ”Since you don’t intend to help, why bother warning us?”

Heng Shu was silent for a long time.

So long that Chen Fan thought the communication had been cut off.

Then, he spoke a passage that took everyone by surprise:

”Because I see a certain... possibility in you. A possibility that even the Sower system cannot predict.”

”For three billion years, I have executed harvests, submitted reports, and waited for instructions. My existence is to maintain the cosmic cycle, but sometimes I wonder—what if the cycle itself is not the answer? What if there is another way for the universe to exist?”

He looked at Chen Fan, his silver eyes seemingly trying to pierce through the screen:

”Your choices, your protocol, that clumsy yet sincere philosophy of ’giving everyone the right to choose’... it reminds me of the dawn of the universe’s birth.”

”Back then, the first batch of primordial consciousnesses created life not for harvesting, but out of pure joy of creation. They watched life grow freely, watched civilizations evolve on their own, and watched possibilities unfold infinitely. That was the most vibrant era of the universe.”

”But later, entropy accelerated, and energy was depleted. For the sake of survival, creation became a cycle, and joy became a duty. The Sower system was established, harvesting began, and the universe became an efficient yet cold machine.”

Heng Shu’s figure began to blur, as if he were withdrawing from Earth’s orbit:

”Chen Fan, I am not your ally. I am still the Sower representative, and my duty is to maintain the cosmic cycle. But if you can survive, if you can prove that free life is more valuable than life within the cycle...”

He paused:

”Then perhaps, in the distant future, the Sower system will reconsider the meaning of its own existence.”

”And this is the only help I can give you: time and a warning.”

The communication channel began to close. Heng Shu’s figure gradually dissipated.

Before vanishing completely, he said one last thing:

”Good luck, Chen Fan.”

”Good luck to humanity.”

”I hope that in a hundred years, I will still see you alive—living freely.”

A victory? But not a complete one.

The enemy did not attack, but even more dangerous enemies were on their way.

Humanity had gained freedom, but behind this freedom lay even greater responsibility and danger.

Chen Fan stood before the screen, looking at the giant ship suspended in the starry sky, remaining silent for a long time.

Then, he connected to the global life network.

”Fellow humans, you have all heard the conversation just now.”

”The Sowers will no longer harvest us. Because we chose freedom, and free life cannot be harvested through standard means.”

”However, in a hundred years, new enemies will arrive. They will be more cruel and more dangerous than the Sowers.”

”We have two choices: first, give up evolution and let the Sowers regain their harvesting authority—so that other entities will not come to hunt us. Second, maintain our freedom and face the challenge.”

He paused:

”Now, choose again.”

”This time, it is about the price of freedom.”

On the other side of the network, a brief silence.

Then, the data began to flicker.

Number of people choosing to maintain evolution and face the challenge: 4.2097 billion.

Thirty million fewer than before—some people had backed down, which was normal.

But over ninety-nine percent of the Evolvers still chose to persevere.

And among those who hadn’t evolved, millions began to choose evolution—because they saw the courage of the Evolvers.

Chen Fan looked at these numbers, a complex light shining in his eyes.

Freedom is not free.

Freedom is dangerous.

But freedom... is worth fighting for.

Su Qingyue walked to his side and took his hand.

”You did it,” she said softly.

”No.” Chen Fan shook his head. ”We did it. Everyone who chose to evolve, everyone who insisted on freedom, everyone... who was willing to bear the cost.”

He looked at the harvester ship hovering in orbit:

”Heng Shu gave us a hundred years. A hundred years to prove that free life is worthy of existence.”

”Do you think we can prove it?” Su Qingyue asked.

Chen Fan was silent for a long time.

Then, he said:

”I don’t know.”

”But we will try.”

”We will try with everything we have.”

”Because that is the meaning of freedom—not to know the answer, but to have the right to seek it.”
