My Youth Began With Him

The surgery officially started at 7:30 AM…

Everyone waited anxiously outside the OR, each and every person in agony as they watched the clock tick slowly.

Su Yu sat restlessly; every once in a while, he would bite his nails and touch his forehead.

Huo Siqian looked calm; he was playing games on his phone to distract himself, but his heart was filled with turmoil…

Jiang Xiaowei was in a bad mood, she sat silently on a chair in the hallway without speaking a word.

“Xiaowei, do you want some water?”

“No.”

“How about some food? I can buy you some fruit.”

“No.”

“You are pregnant now, you can’t do this to yourself.” Wei Liao was speechless.

He was also sad and worried about Qin Chu and Huo Mian, but he was even more worried about the health of his wife and baby.

“Are you done? I already said I’m okay…” Jiang Xiaowei was in a very bad mood.

Huo Mian was the only good friend she had after all these years, and even though they had not known each other for very long, they got along very well with each other.

Therefore, she was very mad, especially when she saw how big of a sacrifice Huo Mian decided to make.

She already cried multiple times…

Zhu Lingling bit down on her teeth as she hid and smoked at the end of the corridor.

Her nicotine cravings were much stronger than Huo Mian’s, the latter would only smoke when she was sad whereas Zhu Lingling smoked sometimes when she stayed up late.

Gao Ran suddenly appeared behind her and grabbed the cigarette from her hand. He threw it to the ground and stomped heavily on it.

“Frequent smokers have black lungs…”

“Why does that matter?”

“You will live a short life.”

“No one lives to a hundred years old anyway, it doesn’t matter if I live a short life,” Zhu Lingling said without hope.

“I know you’re sad, but don’t be like this,” Gao Ran said comfortingly.

“Stupid police, hey… will they make it?” Zhu Lingling asked in a shaky voice.

“I think so.” Gao Ran was sad too but he still hoped that Qin Chu and Huo Mian would be okay.

“But why am I so scared, my heart has been hanging all this time… It won’t come down,” Zhu Lingling said as she pointed to her chest…

Tears slid down her cheeks…

Gao Ran felt terrible when he saw her tears; he took out some tissues and gently wiped them away.

“Don’t cry… I’m sure they’ll be okay.”

Zhu Lingling couldn’t help it anymore, she threw herself into Gao Ran’s arms and started crying…

“Gao Ran, I feel so bad… I can’t imagine never seeing Huo Mian again. How can this happen? I’ve known her for so many years, I can’t accept this.”

“I know, I know…”

Gao Ran gently hugged Zhu Lingling and patted her back to make her feel better.

On the other side, the faces of Qin Chu’s parents were covered in melancholy; Mrs. Qin did not speak after she was yelled at by Jiang Xiaowei.

“Yishi, let’s go,” Mrs. Song suddenly said in a low voice.

“Mom, the surgery isn’t over yet.” Song Yishi didn’t understand why her mother would want to go now.

Mrs. Song looked around and saw that no one was looking at her, so she leaned over and whispered to Song Yishi, “I heard from a Daoist that when a person dies, there will be bad luck at the place where the person had his last breath. Whoever the breath lands on will suffer bad luck for a year. I don’t think … Qin Chu will make it, and his wife will probably die too. Let’s go now, or we may get bad luck if the surgery fails, and their last breaths land on us.”

“Mom… how can you be like this ?” Song Yishi looked incredulously at her mother.

Her mother was actually worried… and even superstitious about these things.

“Stupid girl, I’m not afraid, but you’re different. You’re still unmarried. I can’t let you be tainted by bad luck. Let’s go,” Mrs. Song said as she pulled Song Yishi away…

Mrs. Qin looked at the mother and daughter with surprise…

The surgery started an hour ago, and it was finally time to extract the bullet…

Qin Chu’s heart beated vigorously in his chest…

The deadly bullet was just at the edge of his heart and was surrounded by blood vessels.

“Huo Mian, do it, time is running out,” Chief Xu reminded her.

Huo Mian carefully lifted the scalpel and touched the bullet…

“Be careful, don’t touch the blood vessels!” Dr. Feng was already old, he was so scared by Huo Mian that he almost had a heart attack.
