My Youth Began With Him

She smiled, confirming his guess…

“Come in.” Qin Chu hadn’t seen her in years and didn’t know what to do.

When she was 8 years old, Song Yishi lived with the Qin Family for one year. When she was 9 years old, she went abroad with her parents.

Now, both she and Qin Chu were 27 years old. They hadn’t seen each other in 18 years.

If she hadn’t called Qin Chu and asked him to pick her up, Qin Chu would’ve never guessed who she was.

Yang immediately brought her a cup of coffee.

“Thank you.” Song Yishi smiled.

“You came back to the country yesterday?” Qin Chu asked.

“Yeah, I suddenly decided to come back. I originally wanted to surprise my parents, but they surprised me by not being in the country. When I got off the plane, I didn’t know what to do. The good news was… Mrs. Qin gave me your phone number. Thank you for arranging someone to pick me up last night.”

Song Yishi was very polite…

“You’re welcome… my mom gave you my number?”

“Yeah.”

“When?” Qin Chu was a little unhappy. Why did her mother always do what she wanted? It was really annoying…

“About two weeks ago, she kept asking me when I was coming back and told me that she missed me.”

“Oh.”

“What’s wrong?” Song Yishi asked, noticing the change in Qin Chu’s expression.

“Nothing.”

“I know that you’re busy, so I didn’t come to bother you this morning and came during your lunch break instead. Do you mind having lunch with me?”

Song Yishi chose her words very carefully, making it hard for Qin Chu to refuse…

If he didn’t go, it would mean that he minded…

Qin Chu had no choice but to nod. “That’s fine. Wait for a minute, I have some matters to tend to.”

He walked back to his desk, gathered the important documents, and locked it in a safe.

Then, he went downstairs with Song Yishi…

On their way downstairs, Qin Chu called Huo Mian.

“Honey, where are you?”

“I’m already home, at South Hill Manor.”

“That was fast, I wanted to have lunch with you.”

“No, it’s okay, I already ate at the wedding. Liu Siying’s wedding was really good, there were a lot of delicious dishes.”

Huo Mian was fixing a shrub with lawn shears as she talked on the phone.

“Okay then, I’ll see you tonight.”

“Okay.”

“You’re really great to your wife,” Song Yishi said as she bit down on her lips.

“Yeah, she’s my first love, and we’ve known each other for years, so there’s a lot of history between us.” Qin Chu’s expression softened upon mentioning Huo Mian.

Song Yishi’s expression changed ever so slightly…

– At a Sichuan restaurant –

They ordered quite a few dishes; Song Yishi ate elegantly as she smiled, “I’ve lived in Italy for so long, and I miss Chinese food the most. Plus, you know how much I love spicy food, so I miss Sichuan dishes the most.”

“Isn’t there a Chinatown where you live? There should be all kinds of Chinese restaurants there,” Qin Chu said.

“There are, but none of them taste right. You should know; you’ve been in the States for so long, even the fruits and vegetables there taste different. They may all be called tomatoes, but they don’t taste the same.”

“That’s true.” Qin Chu nodded.

“What about you? You lived in the States for 7 years, have you gotten used to western food?”

“I was alright… If I get sick of hamburgers, I just make myself some egg fried rice. But I mostly ate western food. After I came back to China, my wife began teaching me how to make Chinese food.” Qin Chu smiled as he talked about Huo Mian.

Song Yishi nodded… all her facial expressions were controlled perfectly.

Some nouveau riches think that if they cover their daughter with gold and silver, she would become a socialite.

However, that wasn’t the case. True socialites literally exude elegance, so people like Huo Yanyan were no more than idiots who only knew how to dupe their fathers out of money.

Song Yishi, on the other hand, lived in Italy for years and was fluent in Italian, Chinese, and English.

However, after she came back to China, she didn’t act all pretentious and show off her Italian or English. Instead, she spoke perfect Mandarin, making it easy for others to like her.

They chit-chatted through lunch. Afterward, while Qin Chu was paying the bill, Song Yishi took out a long cylinder and handed it to Qin Chu.

“I wanted to give this to you, congratulations on getting married.”

“What is this…?” Qin Chu looked at the long cylinder curiously; what could it be?
