Reborn As Noble

Chapter 1055: Armand’s Invisible Might ( 1055 )

Javier leaned back in his chair. ”But I prefer to speak casually unless I need to use those accents or languages. Same goes for noble speech, or as you all know now, the ’prince way of speaking’ and all this diplomatic formality. It’s useful when it’s needed, but it’s not really me.”

”So why did you learn so many languages, husband?” Felicia asked softly, her tail swaying in a slow, curious arc.

”Hmm? It’s simple. For me, learning and knowing languages is like a workout for my brain. It keeps my mind sharp, improves memory, and helps me think more flexibly. It’s not just about words, it’s about understanding how different people see the world.”

Javier smiled. ”There’s also a practical and strategic advantage: being able to understand conversations that aren’t meant for your ears. Like when people talk privately, or... well, ’talk behind your back.’”

He glanced at Mimi, whose eyes were gleaming with fascination, and Delya, who was listening intently, her expression thoughtful.

”If people assume you only speak one language, they might speak openly in another language around you, not realizing you can understand them. That can give you an advantage in all kinds of situations, social, political, even on the battlefield.”

Javier took his fork and started eating the meat again after Liana poured her special sauce over it.

”You gain access to information, opinions, or details about situations you wouldn’t otherwise get. It allows you to understand their true perspectives without the filter of translation or guarded speech.”

He chewed thoughtfully. ”And sometimes, revealing that you understood everything can lead to... amusing interactions. Or it can be a useful way to correct a misunderstanding or address a hidden bias before it becomes a problem.”

He smiled warmly. ”Especially in noble life... or, well, royal life now. Knowing many languages generally improves your ability to connect with a wider range of people, fosters empathy, and can be a significant professional asset. It’s part of why Armand values education and cultural exchange.”

”I believe you, Mimi, and Delya also learned several languages, right?” Javier smiled at Felicia.

Felicia nodded shyly. ”Mm... it is a basic requirement for us as royals. It is a must, especially since beastfolk like us. Some speak with the rough, clipped tongue of the mountain clans, others with the flowing, melodic speech of the river tribes, and some even with the rapid, clicking dialects of the desert kin. As a princess, I must understand them all to serve our people and speak for them in diplomatic settings.”

Mimi chimed in cheerfully, ”Nya! I learned too! But I like the playful tongue of the forest kits best~ It’s full of fun sounds and tail-talk!”

Delya added with a soft smile, ”I was educated in the formal tongues of neighboring realms too. Precision in speech prevents... misunderstandings in matters of state.”

Javier smiled and nodded. ”Mm, that’s why for me it’s important to...”

He was about to continue when someone approached them.

Javier turned and glanced at Cliff.

”Pardon me, Your Highness.” Cliff bowed politely. ”Lord Tybalt is ready to receive you in the main hall. If you would follow me, I shall escort you there.”

”Very well.” Javier said, slowly standing.

While Liana was about to close the lid on the remaining meat, Buddy and the other Pekko peeked over the edge of the table and snatched everything clean in one swift, synchronized gulp.

”Buddy!” Liana hissed and glared, but Buddy casually swallowed the meat and stared down at her with his usual cheeky smirk on his beak.

Liana exhaled slowly while the others were about to stand, but stopped when Javier raised his palm.

”Sorry, Felicia, Mimi, Delya. You all stay here with...” Javier glanced at Liana and Gloria, who were already in a subtle, ready stance, clearly about to play rock-paper-scissors to decide who would accompany him. ”Since I can’t bring you with me.”

”Nya!? Why?” Mimi tilted her head and tried to insist on joining, but Felicia gently placed a hand on her sister’s shoulder.

”Mimi, we are here as our husband future wife. If we were to join husband in an official meeting with a Human Kingdom lord, it could be seen as the Beastkin Nation taking a political stance. It might complicate things for him, and for our father.”

She glanced at Javier with understanding. ”It’s better we remain here as guests, not as political figures.”

Delya nodded gracefully. ”She’s right. Our presence could be misinterpreted as an alliance or interference. It’s better we remain here as guests, not participants.”

Javier gave them an appreciative smile. ”Thank you for understanding.”

And he saw Liana kneeling gracefully on the floor, her head bowed slightly in defeat, she had lost the rock-paper-scissors match.

While Gloria pumped her fist quietly, adjusted her glasses, folded her hands neatly in front of her, and glanced down at Liana. She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and smiled sweetly.

”I win today, Li-a-na~ So it’s me who will accompany the young master~ You stay here with the other wives~ while I will be with our husband. Fufu~”

Liana bit her lower lip and glared up from her kneeling position. ”Just you wait, Gloria. I won’t lose next time.”

”Fufu~ Someone’s jealous~” Gloria turned gracefully and smiled at Javier. ”Young master~ Let’s go~ This beautiful maid will accompany you~”

”Alright, Gloria.” Javier smiled, glancing at Liana, who had turned her head away, cheeks slightly puffed in a dignified pout. He reached down and gently ruffled her silver hair. ”Don’t sulk, Liana. You’ll get the next one.”

Liana let out a soft, reluctant sigh but nodded, a faint smile finally touching her lips. ”Mm~ okay young master.”

Once Javier was out from the transport drone, he snapped his fingers, and two of his latest puppet knights, fully armored and equipped, materialized in front of the ramp.

Cliff’s eyes widened, but he stayed silent.

Javier clasped both hands behind his back and said casually, ”Lead the way, Mister Cliff.”

”As you wish, Your Highness.” Cliff walked ahead, eyeing Javier who strolled calmly beside Gloria.

No wonder he only needs one maid to escort him. Unlike other nobles I’ve seen before, surrounded by a full guard of elites... This prince only brings one maid because he has those knights at the snap of his finger? Were they already there, invisible? Like the rumors say about Armand’s special units?

Cliff’s mind raced. No one outside Armand’s inner circle knows for sure.

If this prince is guarded by that kind of special unit, I wonder about the other princes and princesses of Armand.

And especially the King, Garius de Armand. Who is escorted by the strongest assassin in the world, Alf, his butler, and the strongest dual-wield sword and magic user, Erinnette, who commands all of Armand’s maids.

Rumors say they could each take on an army alone.

Cliff swallowed quietly, leading the way with humbling fear.
