Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

Chapter 1321: Chapter 306: Troops Depart from Xiangyang, King Qi’s Ambush

Chen Jie stepped into the delicate area of Peng Yingyu, a small room, though outside was as luxurious as the Imperial Palace, Peng Yingyu had confined himself within a woodshed.

It was clear that he truly felt deeply guilty about his actions.

When Chen Jie and Ni Wenjun stepped into this small, shut-off woodshed, they finally saw the emaciated Peng Yingyu.

”Old Peng!”

Seeing Peng Yingyu in such a state, both Chen Jie and Ni Wenjun exclaimed.

The exclamation reached Peng Yingyu’s ears, and he turned dazedly, his eyes surreal, but after a moment regained clarity.

He chanted a Buddha name: ”Amitabha Buddha!”

Upon hearing this melodious yet distinctly hoarse voice, Ni Wenjun and Chen Jie were taken aback; who would have thought that the one once unrivaled in loyalty and a subject of awe for the heroes worldwide, an esteemed figure on the Heavenly List, would become such a frail, seemingly drained beinig.

Ni Wenjun then stepped forward and said: ”Old Peng, what has happened to you?”

Chen Jie also said: ”Master Peng, you...”

After hearing their words, the person who brought Chen Jie and Ni Wenjun inside spoke: ”Master hasn’t had food or water for over twenty days, that’s why he’s emaciated.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie and Ni Wenjun were both stunned, twenty days without eating.

This is incredible.

Knowing that a normal person would starve to death after seven or eight days without food or drink, even a Martial Arts Grandmaster couldn’t endure half a month, yet Monk Peng has starved himself for over twenty days.

This, given his strength, must mean he’s teetering on the brink of death.

After all, this is a Martial Arts World, not a Cultivation World, no one here can survive without eating, especially in this era with a lack of nature’s spiritual energy, even if there are cultivators, they would need to eat to maintain physiological functions.

And surviving without eating or drinking is simply impossible, not even the two Earthly Immortals can rely on a breath of True Qi to exist without eating or drinking.

Ni Wenjun then looked at Old Peng and said: ”Old Peng, you can’t go on without eating or drinking, it’s just a matter of some policies not being implemented properly, Jiu Si is here now, Jiu Si excels in governing the world, let Jiu Si help you, let’s make an effort to let the common people live better, isn’t that good enough?”

”Why torment yourself like this?”

Peng Yingyu replied: ”Amitabha Buddha, the sins have been committed, and even if compensated, it’s hard to remedy the guilt within me, my heart is dead, and my Buddha Heart has cracked.”

Upon hearing this, Chen Jie stepped forward and said: ”Master, it’s just a couple of policy mistakes, where do policymakers never err? Mistakes can be corrected, and it’s still good.”

Peng Yingyu said: ”In my lifetime, as a monk I’ve never acted against conscience, but soon after conquering Hubei Road and establishing Buddha Country, I ended up harming countless people along the way. If one day I conquer more territories, wouldn’t I harm even more people?”

Peng Yingyu shook his head and said: ”I am exhausted.”

Indeed, he was exhausted, he pursued his whole life for Buddha Country, believing that establishing Buddha Country would create an ideal world, where the people live in peace and prosperity, without oppression or suffering.

Yet soon after he issued decrees, chaos erupted on Hubei Road, and the common people were living more miserably than during the Daqian era.

Peng Yingyu would fearlessly face a myriad of armies.

But facing thousands of unarmed, weak, and vulnerable common people, he truly had no solution.

The insults, which a hooligan could easily disregard.

But for someone as morally high like Peng Yingyu, it was utterly a heavenly punishment.

That day, even his golden body cracked.

Seeing Peng Yingyu in such a state, the person who led Chen Jie and Ni Wenjun inside said: ”Gentlemen, Master is just like this, if you ask me, isn’t it just insults from some ignorant people? How big a deal is that, yet he’s taken it to heart.”

Upon hearing this, Peng Yingyu looked at him for a moment.

He immediately closed his mouth, Chen Jie looked at the speaker and said: ”Who might this brother be?”

”Ding Pulong!”

The person standing at the door announced his name.

Ni Wenjun then introduced: ”This is Old Peng’s youngest disciple, Ding Pulong, known as Little Overlord.”

”After Old Peng had trouble, he’s the one who refused all positions, handed over all troops to Zhao Pusheng, and with Old Peng took to seclusion here.”

”A person of pure filial piety.”

Ni Wenjun said, quite appreciatively, and upon hearing this Ding Pulong said: ”Old Ni, don’t praise me, I’m just afraid Master will starve himself to death.”

Upon hearing this, Peng Yingyu looked at Ding Pulong and said: ”You just want to infuriate me to death.”

Ding Pulong said: ”I don’t care, if you don’t eat then I won’t either, I’ve accompanied you in fasting for five days, my body isn’t as strong as yours, any more days and I’ll likely perish.”

”If you die that’s fine, but if you also kill a disciple in the process, that would bring infamy.”

Peng Yingyu said: ”You, how, how did I take you as my disciple?”

”Your secret joy, you took many disciples, but in the end, it’s just me accompanying you to the grave, serving you in the afterlife, what do you have left to worry about?”

Peng Yingyu intended to speak further, but at that moment a voice came from outside: ”Sixth Master, how’s the State Preceptor, Your Majesty and Right General have come to see the State Preceptor.”

Upon hearing this, Ding Pulong looked at Peng Yingyu and said: ”Master, those two ingrates have come, will you meet them?”

Peng Yingyu said: ”You, how can you speak of your senior brother that way, and the other is Your Majesty after all.”
