Teng!

Chen Jie could no longer sit still after reading the intelligence report and suddenly stood up.

”Wife, wife.”

Chen Jie called out twice. Su Yunjin was still packing when Chen Jie said, ”Never mind the rest, just bring the valuables, and let’s hurry.”

Su Yunjin asked, ”Husband, is it that urgent?”

Chen Jie replied, ”It’s extremely urgent.”

Su Yunjin understood, grabbed a small bundle, and led Ruirui to Chen Jie, asking, ”Where are we going?”

That question stumped Chen Jie.

Chen Jie frowned and had to carefully review the intelligence report again.

The first item in the report was something he already knew: Feng San was very strong, having reached the Iron Bone Realm, and was a vengeful person skilled in the Energy Transformation Martial Arts [Golden Crow Saber Technique]. With his current strength, he definitely wouldn’t stand a chance.

And with Ruirui and his wife with him, fighting was out of the question!

The fourth item stated that Feng San had received news that he had killed Feng Si and was now leading people to kill him. Moreover, they had blocked his routes to the White Tiger Hall.

Actually, it made sense, the only place he could seek refuge was the White Tiger Hall.

As for finding some random inn to stay in, Chen Jie didn’t believe that Feng San, failing to find him here, wouldn’t check the inns. Besides, with the Beggar Sect’s intelligence network, hiding without being discovered wasn’t simple at all.

So, it was indeed extremely urgent.

Items two and three, although they contained hidden information, were not immediately useful to him. Chen Jie only wanted to know how to hide, not who the owner behind Yihong House was.

Chen Jie then looked at the fifth piece of intelligence, which made him fall into deep thought.

This fifth item was interesting. Third Miss Hua, the ’Tofu Xi Shi’, actually knew Brother Ni and seemed deeply infatuated with him, even showing favouritism because he might have met Brother Ni since he was from Xiantao Town and had paid extra attention to him.

What a love-struck fool she was, but he didn’t know what Brother Ni’s attitude was.

Chen Jie thought, and suddenly his expression paused, his eyes lighting up, ”Ah, how could I be so foolish? Isn’t this a ready-made shelter?”

With that thought, Chen Jie looked at Ruirui and Su Yunjin and said, ”Let’s go.”

Then, carrying one under each arm, he soared up and flew out of the courtyard.

Picking up the spear by the door, Su Yunjin asked, ”Husband, where are we going?”

Chen Jie looked around cautiously, seeing that there was no one on the large street, he said, ”Follow me.”

...

Meanwhile, at a nearby tofu shop not far from the Chen family.

Old Man Zhong, smoking his pipe, was reporting the day’s accounting to Third Miss Hua: exotic herbs sold in the black market today, five thousand taels, ten secret manuals sold, along with scarce daily necessities, including bulk commodities like salt and iron!

”The price of pig iron has risen sharply recently, and it’s not easy to get a hold of.”

Old Man Zhong said to Third Miss Hua, who replied, ”Hmm, Mianshui County isn’t short of iron, there are two mines.”

Hearing this, Old Man Zhong said, ”That should be the case, but recently for some reason, the Fishing Guild’s pig iron is being bought up before it even reaches the market, so very little makes it to circulation, hence the soaring prices.”

Third Miss Hua remarked, ”It looks like it’s their own people doing this. What is the Fishing Guild stockpiling iron for?”

Old Man Zhong took a puff of his pipe and said, ”That’s not known; could it be that the court is requisitioning it?”

”It shouldn’t be; if the court were requisitioning, why wouldn’t the Guild Cao’s iron production be reduced for external supply?”

Third Miss Hua posed a question, to which Old Man Zhong replied, ”Where does the head think the problem lies then?”

Third Miss Hua answered, ”I can’t see through it either. I just feel that Mianshui County is becoming more ominous.”

Thud thud thud...

As Third Miss Hua and Old Man Zhong were reconciling the accounts, a sudden series of knocks echoed from outside.

Both Third Miss Hua and Old Man Zhong paused, exchanging a glance, while two black market underlings not far away drew their knives, leaning against the door, looking at Third Miss Hua.

”Who is it?”

Third Miss Hua asked out loud.

Just then, a voice came from outside: ”Sister Hua, it’s me, Su Yunjin.”

”Yunjin, so late, why have you come? Hold on, I’ll open the door for you.”

Saying this, Third Miss Hua waved her hand, followed by Old Man Zhong quickly rolling up his smoking tools and walking out the back door. The two black market underlings put away their knives, and Third Miss Hua also returned to the back room.

Then Third Miss Hua stood up with a smile on her face and went to the door.

Upon opening the door, she saw Su Yunjin, Ruirui, and Chen Jiusi.

Third Miss Hua was taken aback and said, ”You?”

Su Yunjin then spoke, ”Sister Hua, we seem to have offended someone, someone’s trying to kill us.”

”Kill you!”

Third Miss Hua looked shocked, then stepped aside and said, ”Come in, let’s talk inside.”

”Thank you, Sister Hua.”

The three of them entered, and Third Miss Hua looked at Chen Jie and said, ”What exactly is going on? My Su family sister wouldn’t cause trouble. Did you provoke someone?”

Chen Jie answered, ”Third Lady, I’m sorry for the disturbance; indeed, it was me. As you know, Ruirui went missing today.”

Third Miss Hua said, ”I know, but Ruirui is back now, isn’t he?”

”Yes, but while rescuing Ruirui, I...”

Chen Jie recounted the events, although Third Miss Hua already knew, she pretended not to until she understood the full context and immediately said, ”So, the one who wants to kill you is Feng San!”

Chen Jie confirmed, ”Yes.”

Third Miss Hua said, ”You really provoked someone you shouldn’t have. This Feng San, known as Mad San in Jianghu with the nickname ’Mad Dog’, is a person of very small tolerance, vengeful. You killed his brother, and now he really won’t stop until he gets his revenge.”
