”Ruirui, eat less. These oranges are sour, and you’ve already eaten three.”

Chen Jie watched as Ruirui devoured the sour oranges one after another and couldn’t help but advise her. Those oranges were so sour; eating too many might upset her stomach.

However, Ruirui didn’t seem to care, as if her stomach was made of iron.

”I can eat three more!”

Ruirui replied so defiantly that Chen Jie couldn’t do anything about it. Just as he was about to speak again, his expression changed suddenly.

He was almost at his home near the Big Vegetable Market, but at that moment, he saw two suspicious guys lurking near his front door. Dressed in ragged clothes and holding sticks, they were obviously members of the Beggar Sect.

Chen Jie’s heart sank; they had found his home.

*A sense of unease filled him, he glanced around to ensure there were no other suspicious people, and then moved to a corner, whispering,* ”Ruirui, wait here. I have something to take care of and will be back shortly.”

Ruirui heard this and looked at Chen Jie, ”Then can I eat one more orange?”

A bit taken aback, Chen Jie looked at the little girl’s greedy expression and said, ”Only one more.”

”Okay, the last one.”

Ruirui held out her hand, and Chen Jie gave her a green orange, reminding her once again, ”Stay here and don’t wander off. Got it?”

”Yes.”

Ruirui nodded in agreement. Chen Jie then picked up a long gun and cautiously moved forward.

At this moment, the two beggars were staring at the Chen family’s door, ”Have you got all the information right? Chen Jiusi lives here, right?”

”Relax, it’s absolutely correct. All the information’s been verified. This courtyard used to belong to Peng Shizhong, and then it was given to that Chen Jiusi. He lives here now.”

”That’s good. We should keep a close watch. Grandpa Gou and the others have already reported back to Third Master. I reckon Third Master will come to kill him tonight; if Chen Jiusi escapes, we’re doomed.”

”Don’t worry, we’ve got a tight watch. But did you see how pretty the little young lady in this courtyard is? When Third Master kills Chen Jiusi, she might be ruined, and maybe, just maybe, we brothers could have some fun too!”

”Heh heh, that would be fantastic. I caught a glimpse earlier, and that young lady is just mesmerizing!”

The beggar fantasized for a moment about the delightful scene of sharing a prize and was utterly entranced!

Just then, he suddenly felt someone pat him on the back.

”Cut it out.”

Despite his protest, the person behind him patted him again!

”Who is it!”

The beggar was enraged. As he turned around, a long gun was already pressed against his throat, freezing him instantly.

The other beggar turned his head and saw Chen Jie.

Without a word, he turned to run, but Chen Jie’s gun landed on his leg, making a slapping sound as he fell to the ground.

In a flash, the long gun swished again, pressing against the throat of the first speaking beggar.

”S-sir, what are you doing?”

”Who sent you?”

Chen Jie asked. The beggar replied, ”Who sent us? We’re just two beggars, begging here.”

Chen Jie laughed at his words, ”Oh, really?”

”Do you know who I am?”

The beggar glanced at the beggar on the ground, ”N-no, we don’t know.”

Chen Jie looked at the beggar on the ground, ”Do you recognize me?”

”N-no, I don’t.”

Chen Jie laughed, ”Your eyes betray you. You recognize me, don’t you?”

”Sir, you’re joking. How could we know someone of your stature?”

Chen Jie responded, ”I don’t like people who lie.”

With that, Chen Jie thrust his gun, piercing through the chest of the beggar lying on the ground.

”Ugh...”

The beggar couldn’t believe it, staring at his pierced heart, then slowly collapsing into a pool of blood.

”Ah!”

The other beggar yelled in terror, but Chen Jie again pressed the gun against his throat, ”You wouldn’t lie too, would you?”

”I-I’m not lying, I’m not lying.”

The beggar, frightened, immediately loudly professed his loyalty.

”Who sent you?”

”Grandpa Gou!”

”Grandpa Gou?”

”Yes, Grandpa Gou.”

”What did he want you to do here?”

Chen Jie asked.

The beggar answered, ”He saw you kill Fourth Master, and he crawled out of a dog hole, then brought us here to watch your house while he returned to report to Third Master.”

”Feng San?”

”Yes, yes, Feng San. He is our group leader and went to South City to meet the Squad Leader today. He should be back around this time.”

Chen Jie listened, ”So, your Grandpa Gou went back to report that I killed Fourth Master, and you stayed here to see if I returned. Quite a well-organized division of labor!”

The beggar said, ”Sir, I’m just a runner. Please spare me.”

Chen Jie observed and said, ”Hmm, quite detailed. By the way, what were you saying before you saw me?”

”Ah, sir, I-I was just talking nonsense. Please let me go.”

Chen Jie said, ”Tell me precisely what you were saying!”

”I said, I said, the young lady in the courtyard looks so beautiful from a distance...”

”And what else?”

Chen Jie’s voice was flat, without a hint of killing intent, making the beggar tremble in fear.

”Mesmerizing!”

Chen Jie smiled, ”You do have an eye for such things.”

Stab!

Chen Jie exerted force, and the long gun pierced through the beggar’s throat instantly, emerging from the back of his neck, brutally pinning him to the wall.

”Looks like you really had your soul captivated.”

Chen Jie pulled out the long gun, and the body slumped to the ground. He turned around, scanning the surroundings and finding no one saw them, then glanced in Ruirui’s direction.

He noticed her attention was entirely on the orange, not at him.
