The Versatile Master Artist

Chapter 672: Chapter 308: A Spring Day Interlude (Part 3)

Yangon Railway Station is filled with various promotional phrases and signs.

Myanmar has laws that require advertisements to include Burmese, and Burmese must occupy more than 60% of the space.

Like their calligraphy and painting shop, which uses three languages: Chinese, English, and Burmese.

However, English can be an exception, as it remains the official language here, both in the upper society and the university education environment.

So, an interesting fact is that the more you are in places like train stations where tourists and locals gather.

You can distinguish their target audience just by looking at the languages on the signs.

English signs are filled with slogans from Bulgari, Rolex, Chanel fashion models, luxury hotels, luxury car rentals, and licensed casinos aimed at foreign tourists.

Burmese signs, on the other hand, advertise cheap goods, soda for tens of Myanmar Kyat, and the cheapest clothing market imported in bulk from Dongxia.

There’s also a young man around the age of Gu Weijing wearing flip-flops, shouting in Burmese to sell balloons for 10 Myanmar Kyat each.

10 Myanmar Kyat.

According to the most generous official currency exchange rate, it equates to about 0.005 US dollars.

He has to struggle hard in temperatures above thirty degrees, selling a total of one million balloons, to afford a meal at Aman Hotel.

Even though the vibrant advertisement signs are just a few feet apart, within arm’s reach.

But everyone passing through the train station, including the balloon seller himself, knows very well that such a life is not related to him.

The paradise of wealthy indulgence and the mundane essentials of ordinary people are placed together, needing no decoration; this scene is a magical realism painting itself.

There was once a sharp commentary in the Mirror, suggesting that the social division of this city is visible from the advertising boards.

“Huh?”

Koizumi Katsuko noticed Gu Weijing’s slightly dazed expression and made a soft nasal sound as if to inquire.

“Just a moment.”

Gu Weijing stared thoughtfully at the advertisement board overhead.

His absent-mindedness wasn’t due to feeling a patriotic lament over the scene before him, but rather because he noticed a particularly large slogan among a sea of dazzling promotional boards.

[Let’s start changing the city beneath our feet now!]

[There is no better time to make positive change than NOW!]

It was a candidate announcement entering politics, running for next year’s Yangon City council.

Such slogans aren’t uncommon in Yangon.

Being able to secure the best advertising spot at Central Railway Station indicates that this candidate has considerable economic strength.

Whether the council member has economic strength is unrelated to Gu Weijing.

Except that he saw a familiar face on the suited council member depicted on the promotion board.

Gu Weijing looked down, and sure enough, found the words [President of Yangon Charity Chamber of Commerce, industrialist, patriot — Chen Shenglin. Supporting Chen Shenglin, each of your votes supports a brighter tomorrow in Yangon.] at the bottom right corner of the slogan.

He suddenly remembered.

He still had the business card from the wealthy philanthropist who wanted to purchase his artwork for the Singapore exhibition.

That billionaire philanthropist, also extremely influential.

Before preparing to offer money, Gu Weijing dialed the number with a mindset to give it a try.

It wasn’t a big issue.

Gu Weijing didn’t have the nerve to dial the number on that business card.

That day at the orphanage, Chen Shenglin’s secretary proactively exchanged numbers with Gu Weijing, and it’s this number he is dialing now.

“Is this Mr. Gu Weijing? Hello. Have you received the message Mr. Chen sent earlier?”

The phone was answered after three rings.

Without waiting for Gu Weijing to introduce himself, the person on the other end of the line mentioned his name directly.

“Uh, yes, I’ve received it.”

With the person being so courteous, Gu Weijing felt a bit embarrassed here.

He hesitated for a few seconds, unsure if he should speak.

“Are you facing some trouble? Mr. Chen is meeting with investment suppliers from Japan. However, if it’s urgent, I can pass on a message for you.”

“It’s not a big issue…”

Gu Weijing quickly narrated the problem he was facing, using the simplest words.

“I see, understood.”

The secretary contemplated lightly for a moment: “Okay, whatever request he has, just cooperate with him; don’t be impulsive, and ensure Miss Sakai stays within your sight. Please wait a few minutes, I’ll handle it.”

At this moment, the female bodyguard had already been handcuffed.

She glanced with the corner of her eye, noticing that Gu Weijing was making a phone call, yet the worry and anxiety in her expression weren’t eased much.

In the bodyguard’s perception, Miss Sakai’s boyfriend is just an ordinary local.

Perhaps he knows a few local cops, but there’s a high probability that he won’t be able to resolve any significant issues.

Gu Weijing was merely making a phone call based on a hit-or-miss attitude, and the speed at which things got resolved was faster than he imagined.

And faster than imaginable.

The secretary’s “a few minutes” actually equated to approximately two hundred seconds.

He had already started to fumble through his wallet for cash amidst the smug expressions of the military police.

As a result, the station master at Yangon Railway Station and the police superintendent of the security department walked into the waiting room with a large group of people.

Considering the time taken for phone communication and finding people, the speed was incredible.

Indeed, it was effective.

A sense of relief washed over Gu Weijing.

The remaining tasks naturally involved apologies, stern reprimands to subordinates, cheerful explanations that it was all a misunderstanding… The usual routine, without exception.
