Ning An's Wild Wish System

They were all talking, whispering, and I couldn’t hear them clearly, but I could see their mocking looks at me.

”Hmph! Even if they break the skies with their talk, when it comes down to real combat, they still have to rely on us!”

Wang Wenxi sneered, ”Little bastards, if it comes down to real combat, don’t embarrass me! I’ll be the first to charge, and you follow right behind me, fight with all your might. Even if we die, we won’t be cowards!”

”Hmph, who’s the coward? Not me, I’m too proud for that!”

The one speaking was Xiaojin.

When I was assigned to the company, Xiaojin respected me greatly, revered me like a god.

But ever since he learned about my transfer request, that light in his eyes disappeared.

Not only did he deliberately distance himself from me, he even couldn’t hide the disdain in his eyes.

”Hmph! Li Hai may not seem like much, but when it comes down to serving the country in battle, we won’t falter! A deserter? I’d rather die on the battlefield than bear that name!”

Even Li Hai, known for his ”young master” demeanor, was full of swagger at this moment.

In that moment, my numb expression was ignited, my blood boiling crazily within me.

Utter humiliation, utter humiliation!

I am a man who stands tall on this earth!

I was born in that land, the land of Yimeng Mountain!

In my veins, Zhao Yimeng flows the blood of heroes, not of cowards!

I know one truth: A man needs his dignity, just like a tree needs its bark. Even if not for myself, for my parents’ honor, I cannot be like this!

I rushed back into the room, took out a blank sheet of paper, then dashed outside.

I found Xiaojin, my eyes bloodshot: ”Sound the emergency assembly, immediately, now!”

Xiaojin froze where he stood, not knowing what had happened, at a loss.

”Sound the emergency assembly, blow it!”

Liang Erxi walked over at this moment and said softly to Xiaojin, ”Blow it.”

With the sound of the assembly call, the entire company quickly gathered in position.

But seeing it was me, everyone exchanged glances, though no one spoke, the apathy and even disdain in their eyes were undeniable.

Seeing everyone’s reaction, I nearly roared, ”From today, anyone who dares say Zhao Yimeng is a coward or a deserter, I’ll meet them with bayonets! Whether hero or coward, we’ll see on the battlefield!”

Finishing this, like a heroic figure braving the cold River Yi, never to return, I bit my finger hard.

On the white paper, using my finger as a pen, and blood as ink, stroke by stroke!

Writing out my resolve in blood-red letters.

!!!

The three exclamation marks fell, and I turned away without looking back at everyone’s reactions.

I knew, some things once lost now can only be regained in the field.

After the emergency training, we finally received combat orders.

The orders given to our regiment sounded simple: perform an insertion.

After the war started, our regiment was to avoid direct confrontation, split into several groups, and find the enemy’s weak points to infiltrate.

The aim was simple, to cut off the enemy’s retreat, ensuring our main forces could completely annihilate the enemy’s first line of defense.

Simultaneously, securing a strong foothold for advancing to the second line of defense.

Unsurprisingly, our battalion was named the Steel Saber Battalion.

And naturally, our company was the Steel Saber Company.

If our regiment was a dagger, our battalion was the blade, and our company the tip!

Our specific mission was to penetrate deep behind enemy lines on the first day of development as fast as possible.

We had to reach Hill 322 by 5:30 PM that day and capture it by the next day, holding it securely.

Intelligence reported that Hill 322 was defended by a reinforced company.

They had set bamboo stakes, barbed wire, and mines; there were artillery positions on the hill, trench systems, and fortified bunkers, both visible and hidden...

In short, the task was tough, very straightforward!

Why the second company received this task, whether it was the commander’s directive for me to blast the bunker first, or because the second company scored highest in the regiment’s quality assessment, the task fell upon us.

Regardless of the reason, I no longer wanted to find out.

Not only was I holding onto pent-up energy, but the entire company was unusually excited.

Everyone was exhilarated for becoming the Sharp Blade Company, but we all knew in our hearts this battle would be extremely tough.

Upon learning of becoming the Sharp Blade Company, everyone shaved their heads bald.

It wasn’t out of superstition but to prevent the enemy from grabbing our hair in close combat.

And if injured, it would be easier for medics to treat.

The cooking squad brought out all their skills to improve the meals as much as possible.

Even during the last meal, they served us the best treatment possible.

That day, even those with the lowest allowance smoked the good cigarettes they normally couldn’t afford.

Even Liang Erxi, known for being stingy, unprecedentedly bought twenty-one packs of Hehua cigarettes.

Wang Wenxi somehow got a few bottles of fifteen-year-old Maotai, silently pulled me over, along with other company officers, saying that after drinking this cup, we’d meet at the Martyrs’ Cemetery...

All this indicated clearly that everyone understood; they were unsure if they would return alive.

Before dying, everyone naturally wanted to enjoy life fiercely!
