Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 99: Chapter 88: Yun Kai’s Home

Under various strange gazes, Yun Kai walked into the Yun Mansion.

He wandered through the cobblestone paths, circled around the winding corridors within the mansion, and passed by several streams, rockeries, and lush, fresh gardens.

The Yun Mansion, although resembling a courtyard, covers an area of over a hundred acres. Besides bungalows, there are numerous small villas in the traditional Chinese style in the core area.

Under the setting sun, a hazy yellow light seeped through the branches and leaves, as if touching the treetops with a trace of Buddhist light.

It was the time when people get off work and school, and the Yun Mansion was bustling with people coming and going—children walking home together after school, couples returning home to prepare dinner after shopping at the market, and sweet-talking lovers ready to head out.

”You just finished school, why aren’t you hurrying home? You’re supposed to focus on your cultivation, but you just fool around all day.”

”Brother, wait for me, wait for me. I need to tell you, someone bullied me today. You have to avenge me, do you hear? Otherwise, I’ll tell mom on you.”

Various sounds constantly drifted into his ears—mothers scolding their children, calls urging kids to come home for dinner, and mischievous kids being chased by their parents, crying as they run away.

But none of these voices belonged to Yun Kai.

How Yun Kai wished someone would stop him, say something to him, even just a simple inquiry.

Even a scolding seemed a luxury to him.

Walking along the familiar yet foreign paths, as the lights within the mansion came on, Yun Kai arrived at the entrance of a villa.

He lingered at the entrance for a long time, his expression shifting, somewhat hesitant.

Finally, he made up his mind and entered the villa.

The Yun Mansion was home to the Yun Family members, and the villa doors weren’t closed. Yun Kai quickly entered.

In the living room, the television was very loud.

On the sofa, two children, about eleven years old, wearing the same school uniform—a boy and a girl—were playfully fighting with cushions. When they saw Yun Kai walk in, their laughter abruptly stopped as if frightened. Both of them shivered and suddenly let out a piercing scream.

”Ah!”

The shrill scream made Yun Kai’s face turn somewhat pale.

He hadn’t expected that after a year apart, his own younger brother and sister would react with such terror upon seeing him.

That gaze, as if they had seen a monster!

”What’s wrong?”

With hurried footsteps, a middle-aged man, appearing somewhat refined and in his forties, quickly ran out. He was dressed in simple home clothes, his hair still wet, as if he had just taken a shower.

”Xiao Kai, why are you here?”

The middle-aged man soon noticed Yun Kai at the door, and asked with some surprise.

”Isn’t this my home? Am I not allowed to come?”

Yun Kai retorted.

He felt a chill in his heart, a complex emotion surged within him that was hard to put into words.

Even though he could calmly endure being bullied and called a bastard, Yun Kai’s body stiffened slightly as soon as this figure appeared.

”Xiao Kai, you’re back!”

Soon, his mother, Su Nan, who was cooking in the kitchen, also came out upon hearing the noise. Seeing Yun Kai brought her a trace of joy mixed with more surprise.

”Come on in, dinner is about to be ready.”

Yun Xuewen slightly furrowed his brow, seemingly not expecting Yun Kai to speak to him like this.

”He’s your brother, what’s there to be so surprised about? Next time, if you act like this, I’ll deal with you,” Yun Xuewen scolded the daughter and son.

”Oh, understood.” The boy and girl replied timidly.

”Call your brother!”

Yun Xuewen scolded again.

The boy and the girl lowered their heads, meekly called out, ”Brother.”

Seeing his cute brother and sister so afraid and alienated from him, Yun Kai felt a sourness in his heart.

”Xiao Kai, sit down and watch TV for a while; dinner will be ready soon.” After saying this, mother Su Nan quickly returned to the kitchen.

Yun Kai sat on the sofa, looking at the TV expressionlessly, while his brother and sister sat cautiously on the sofa, not daring to look at Yun Kai or chat or play anymore. The originally pleasant and warm atmosphere was suddenly gone.

”Xiao Kai, how’s life lately? Do you still have enough money to spend?”

Yun Xuewen looked at Yun Kai, with some doubt in his eyes. He, too, noticed the change in Yun Kai, who was no longer the timid and inferior person he used to be, but had become more confident.

”Just like before.” Yun Kai replied indifferently.

He longed to return to this home!

Longed to have the care of parents, just like his classmates!

Longed to have siblings to play with, but he was also afraid of returning here because the behavior of his parents and siblings constantly proved that he didn’t belong, that he was the extra one!

His arrival made the originally warm family atmosphere disappear completely.

Yun Xuewen asked a few brief questions about Yun Kai’s life and studies, but didn’t know what else to say after that.

He also knew about the estrangement between Yun Kai and himself, but he didn’t know what to do about it.

This child of his was different from ordinary people since birth, and as a father, he had been ridiculed by the clan members because of this, to the extent that he couldn’t even lift his head in the family for a while.

Undeniably, he didn’t like Yun Kai, even though Yun Kai was obedient and sensible, and even tried cautiously to please him at times, yet he never liked him.

He had made efforts, but to no avail.

As Yun Kai grew older and his appearance changed, he even became somewhat repulsed by Yun Kai, and when his second son and youngest daughter were born, he gave up on Yun Kai.

Perhaps it was due to his and his wife Su Nan’s attitude that Yun Kai chose to move out and live on his own, and at that time, he did not refuse, in fact, he felt slightly relieved in his heart.

The dinner table was silent, nobody spoke, the atmosphere was heavy, and Yun Kai, feeling the taste was somewhat bland, put down his chopsticks not long after.

”Why don’t you eat a bit more?” Su Nan asked with concern.

Yun Kai glanced at his mother, his beast-like pupils caused Su Nan to slightly avoid direct eye contact, feeling a bit dodgy.

”Are you afraid of me?”

Yun Kai chuckled, his voice carried a hint of self-mockery.

A mother being afraid of her own child, how ridiculous is that.

Su Nan trembled slightly, her eyes reddened a bit, but she didn’t argue back while looking down.

”I’m not back today to have a meal with you all!”

Yun Kai said with a smile, one that was bitter and determined, ”Rest assured, I’m not here to move back; I am very happy and comfortable living alone.”

Yun Xuewen and Su Nan exchanged a glance, not knowing why, both felt a slight sense of relief, yet they remained silent.

”I came here just to tell you all, I’m not a half-beastman due to gene mutation, and I’m certainly not a mongrel.”

Saying this, Yun Kai took a piece of paper from his pocket, tossed it to his father, and then stood up, striving to stabilize his emotions, smiling as he said, ”Rest assured, I won’t come back again, even if you beg me, I won’t come back, you can be at ease!”

After saying that, Yun Kai got up and left, not even responding to his mother’s tear-laden cries, exiting the villa swiftly.

He moved quickly because he could barely hold back the tears that were about to fall.

He wouldn’t allow his tears to stay in this home.

After Yun Kai left, Yun Xuewen’s face turned somewhat unpleasant; after a while, he picked up the paper Yun Kai had thrown to him, glanced at it casually, and quickly straightened his posture, disbelief first appeared in his eyes, then shock, and finally joy.

”Ancestral Demonization?”

Yun Xuewen stood up abruptly, his action was so large that he even knocked the entire dining table over, spilling the food all over.

His sudden movement frightened the two children and Su Nan, but at this moment Yun Xuewen paid no attention, as he hurried outside, he found no sign of Yun Kai.

When Yun Xuewen returned home, it was as if he had lost his soul, appearing somewhat disoriented.

”Xuewen, what’s wrong with you, what on earth is going on?” Su Nan asked, her body trembling slightly, expressing some fear.

She had never seen her husband so distraught.

Looking at Su Nan, Yun Xuewen’s eyes filled with tears, he suddenly held his wife tightly, sobbing, ”I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I truly made a mistake, I really did!”

”What mistake did you make? Was it Yun Kai? That was my mistake, he is my son, that was my mistake!”

Feeling her husband’s sorrow, Su Nan blamed herself.

”I was wrong, we all were.”

After a while, Yun Xuewen stopped crying, handed the piece of paper to Su Nan, saying, ”It’s not just us, the entire Yun Race was wrong.”

Su Nan received the paper with some doubt, quickly displaying the same reaction as her husband.

”Is this real?”

Yun Xuewen nodded, affirming, ”Since Yun Kai knew to tell us, it must be real, his appearance indeed resembles the Extraordinary Ancestor after the Demon Transformation.”

Finished speaking, Yun Xuewen returned to his room, quickly dressed himself properly, and left the house.

He needed to share this news with the clan.

His son was not a half-beastman, not a mongrel.

He was a genius inheriting the gifts of the Extraordinary Ancestor.

The most outstanding worldly genius of the clan.

”Dong!”

Half an hour later, the sudden ancient bell sound echoed through Yun Mansion, all clan members quickly came out from their homes, all were surprised and a bit worried.

For Yun Mansion, apart from the annual ancestor worship, the ancient bell almost never rings, let alone ringing five times.

The five rings of the ancient bell signified a crucial family matter concerning life and death, all stewards and above within the clan, no matter where they were, must attend a meeting in the ancestral hall within an hour.

”What happened, did something big happen?”

An unsettling atmosphere spread within the Yun Family, what was formerly a dim compound was now brightly lit, all without caring for dinner, stepped out of their homes discussing animatedly.

Meanwhile, in a darkened room, Yun Kai stood by the window, listening to the ancient bell, as a cold smirk slowly formed on his lips.
