Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 78: Chapter 70: Half-beastman Yun Kai

Fortunately, Lin Feng appeared at this moment.

...

During the lunch break, Jiangxin Middle School, with its three hundred thousand students, suddenly resembled a marketplace. Students gathered in groups, happily chatting and playing as they headed towards the cafeteria.

But amidst the crowd, a solitary figure stood isolated in an open space, appearing strikingly out of place.

The crowd looked at that figure with peculiar eyes, interspersed with mocking laughter:

”Look, it’s the Half-beastman!”

”It’s not like we haven’t seen him before. What’s there to be curious about? But why does he look more and more like a Demon Beast?”

”I heard that the Half-beastman is quite something. Someone saw him in the bathroom and jumped out of their skin. I wonder if it’s true.”

”Really? Like an animal? That’s really disgusting.”

Yun Kai kept his head down, silent.

In June, the willows drooped, and the blinding sunlight seemed to melt people. The heat was so intense it felt as though the air carried a hint of burning. All the students wore short sleeves and shorts, except for him, who wore long sleeves and pants.

Although Yun Kai feared the heat, he was more afraid of the hair on his body. But even so, the exposed parts of his hands and face couldn’t be concealed, making him instantly the center of attention.

The unpleasant words were unfiltered and went straight into his ears.

In response, Yun Kai just lowered his head further without much reaction.

Because he had already gotten used to it.

From the moment he was born, the piercing screams of the nurses destined him to be different.

The abundant hair from a young age made Yun Kai realize that he was unlike other children, but every two days he would have his parents remove the hair for him. However, as he grew older, the hair became coarser, the pores enlarged, making it difficult to remove, and the hair growth speed increased. Sometimes, just after removing it, it would grow back the next day.

Later, skeletal changes caused his body shape to change as well, and he became an oddity in others’ eyes. Over the years, his originally dark pupils turned brown, his appearance changed dramatically, turning him from an oddity into a complete monster in their eyes.

Actually, Yun Kai didn’t blame his classmates because even his kinsmen and relatives gradually began to see him as a monster. His parents, who originally adored him, also started to distance themselves after having a younger brother and sister. It’s been a long time, at least half a year, since he had a meal with his parents.

He was used to mockery, used to strange looks. He was even used to the fact that he was gradually becoming a monster.

From childhood to adulthood, he was always alone, without friends, without siblings, and even lost his family.

Arriving at the cafeteria and waiting in line, this ordeal was even more painful for Yun Kai.

Even though he was used to it, even though he was bruised and battered, about to be numb, the peculiar gazes still made him wish for death over life.

”Ten servings of pepper and salt roasted meat, ten servings of vegetables, ten servings of rice.”

Due to low self-esteem, Yun Kai spoke in a very low volume, and due to changes in his vocal cords, his voice was extremely rough, akin to a beast’s growl before pouncing on its prey.

”Indeed, he’s a Half-beastman, eats so much.”

”This freak’s appetite is more than I eat in three days. What a glutton, eats so much yet still so skinny.”

”Actually, I think he’s quite pitiful, you shouldn’t speak about him like that, he hasn’t done anything wrong.”

”Aren’t you noble? If you pity him, why don’t you be friends with him?”

Listening to the chatter, Yun Kai went back and forth five times, silently eating his meal in a corner.

With his body’s mutation, over the years, his appetite had grown larger and larger, and the food before him wasn’t enough to satisfy his body’s needs.

But even eating so much, his body became increasingly thin. The delicious roasted meat quickly digested upon entering his body, as if there was a beast inside him perpetually devouring energy.

Yun Kai was tall, standing at six foot three at just sixteen, which wasn’t common among students, yet he weighed barely a hundred pounds, looking like a bamboo stick.

While Yun Kai ate quietly, not far from him, three boys ate and joked around. Initially, they were happy, but the atmosphere soon turned peculiar. One of the stronger boys slapped another boy with a crew cut.

The crew-cut boy covered his face but didn’t dare retaliate; his depression apparent. Spotting Yun Kai nearby, he grabbed a steamed bun and hurled it at him.

The bun hit Yun Kai’s face hard, causing a hiccup that made the food in his mouth spew out, and his small face turned a bit red. But even then, he didn’t look to see who attacked him. A thought even flitted through his mind: if the blow killed him, perhaps it would be some kind of release?

Unfortunately, it didn’t kill him.

He kept his head down, and after a while, continued eating.

The crew-cut boy felt relieved after venting his anger by redirecting it, not daring to actually do anything to Yun Kai. After all, despite the discrimination, Yun Kai came from a prominent family, and if not for Yun Kai’s timid nature, which never resisted, few in Jiangxin First Middle School would dare to bully him.

”Bullied again!”

The surrounding students witnessing the scene seemed accustomed to it, hardly concerned; each did their own thing, eating what they ate, chatting about what they chatted, and even those who felt some compassion remained silent.

”Lin Feng?”

Suddenly, the crowd gasped in surprise. Under everyone’s gaze, three figures carrying food trays slowly approached, headed by none other than Lin Feng.

Lin Feng handed his tray to Gao Hai, striding towards the crew-cut boy, and before the latter could react, Lin Feng swung and landed a harsh slap on the boy’s face. The tremendous force sent the boy sprawling on the floor, blood and over a dozen teeth scattered across the ground.

The previously noisy cafeteria fell into a stunned silence.

Everyone stared at Lin Feng in disbelief, not understanding why he was so furious. Was it just to champion fairness? As for the buzz-cut boy who lay concussed on the floor from a single slap, nobody paid him any mind.

Even his two friends pretended not to see, lowering their heads.

”Lin Feng, thank you.”

Watching it all, Yun Kai silently said thank you. From the direction the bun came flying and the surrounding students’ reactions, he understood the truth.

Because he had no friends, Yun Kai’s greatest enjoyment was going online.

On the internet, no one knew who he was, no one saw his appearance, so there were no mocking glances or bullying.

Only in the virtual world did he feel like a person!

A normal human made of flesh and blood.

Lin Feng was a focal point of debate among recent online users and the main character in recent news. As a genius youth entering the Glory Rookie Rankings, Yun Kai was naturally not unfamiliar with him. Being at the same Jiangxin Middle School, he paid even more attention to Lin Feng, yearning to become someone like him. Because of this yearning, he idolized Lin Feng.

And precisely because of this, he knew even more the difference between Lin Feng and himself.

Lin Feng was a dazzling genius.

While he was just a monster.

Just when Yun Kai thought that Lin Feng only helped out of sympathy and wouldn’t have any interaction with him, he saw Lin Feng and his friends walking towards him. To everyone’s surprise, they sat directly across from him.

Yun Kai hurriedly bowed his head, not daring to look Lin Feng in the eye, fearing to see that strange and disgusted look. Although he had gotten used to it, he didn’t want Lin Feng to be one of those people.

No one spoke. Everyone just watched as Lin Feng’s group and Yun Kai ate in silence, making the atmosphere a bit eerie.
