A-List Actress: Paper Marriage but Pampering Billionaire

Chapter 1248: Chapter 1248: Best Picture

Below the award stage, a large crowd sat in dense rows.

Mu Yan was submerged in the crowd, gazing at the solemn stage and then at the unfamiliar faces surrounding her. She could feel a faint sweat starting to form in her palms.

Well, an actor who doesn’t want to win an award isn’t a good actor; she wants to win.

But snatching food from the jaws of wolves is clearly not easy.

She didn’t think she would lose to others, but others weren’t losing to her either. Her thoughts were in a bit of a mess.

Suddenly, her hand was grabbed.

Mu Yan turned her head to look at the man beside her. He was looking at her, as if saying, don’t worry, I’m here.

She smiled knowingly, exhaling a soft breath, easing the tension in her heart.

The host, in fluent English, reviewed various moments during the film festival, went through all the nominated works, and then began awarding.

When it came to the award for Best Picture, Mu Yan could feel everyone in the audience holding their breath.

Her gaze fell on Chen Zhou. His expression remained unchanged, calmly looking ahead. For this international director, such grand occasions were not uncommon.

When the host announced ”The Best Time,” the room erupted into enthusiastic applause. Chen Zhou stood up, shaking hands with those around him, and the rest of the crew stood as well. At this moment, they were the focus of the entire venue.

Being noticed at such an international film festival was enough for them to look back on a lifetime.

Chen Zhou went on stage, took the trophy from the presenter, and eloquently talked in English about his nearly twenty-year career as a director, from being obscure to shining and admired. The journey was tough, and he had experienced low points, so he was very grateful to those who extended a helping hand in his difficult times, and even more grateful to his wife for her constant support and company. He felt honored to receive this award in his lifetime, but he wouldn’t stop and would continue to create more good works.

While he was on stage, Sister Wen was in the audience with tears in her eyes, flashing back to the scene when she first met him. At that time, he was merely a socially young man with only a reputation but no background, living precariously. Reaching today’s achievements, one couldn’t know how much hardship he had faced.

At this moment, Chen Zhou came down from the stage and handed the trophy to his wife.

”When I just started making films, you told me you wanted this trophy and wanted me to give it to you in the future. I’m sorry to have kept you waiting for so many years.”

Sister Wen accepted it and smiled at him, saying, ”Thank you, I love it.”

She said so, kissed the trophy, then kissed Chen Zhou.

Everyone was touched by the romance of the great director and his wife, and they all applauded.

The award ceremony was to continue, and winning Best Picture meant Best Director wouldn’t go to Chen Zhou, as it was taken by a foreign art film director.

”The Best Time” winning this grand award was a shared honor for everyone in the crew, but for Mu Yan, the pressure increased even more.

Finally, it was time for the Best Actor award. Li Yushen wasn’t nominated this time, so the whole crew was at ease.

As a former Cannes Best Actor, Li Yushen was invited to present the award. As soon as he got on stage, his charismatic face instantly captured everyone’s attention.

The host boldly confessed love, but Li Yushen humorously replied with, ”My wife is here today too, and I don’t want to sleep on the floor. Please don’t joke with me.”

Everyone burst into laughter, realizing that not only the director but even the Best Actor fears his wife.

After Li Yushen finished presenting the award, it was time to announce the Best Actress.
