A-List Actress: Paper Marriage but Pampering Billionaire

Chapter 1103: Chapter 1103: Family Ties Are as Fragile as Paper

After a short while, the old lady fell asleep, and the Zhuang family members came out of the ward.

Zhuang Zeyang said, ”I’ll stay at the hospital, you all go home and rest.”

”Let me stay here instead,” Zhuang Shaoyang said, ”This all started because of me, I...”

Zhuang Zeyang interrupted him, ”This isn’t about whose responsibility is greater, you can come replace me later.”

Zhuang Shaoyang nodded, ”Alright, we’ll head back first, I’ll come over in the afternoon.”

As he spoke, his gaze fell on Mu Yan and Jiang Jingheng, ”You both should come home with us.”

Mu Yan didn’t say a word, not even giving him a glance.

It was Jiang Jingheng who spoke, ”We’ll stay here with Uncle to accompany Grandma.”

Zhuang Shaoyang nodded, said nothing, and left with Ruan Xinyu.

Remaining were Zhuang Zeyang, Mu Yan, and Jiang Jingheng, sitting on the bench outside the ward. The hospital corridor, unlike indoors, had no heating and felt terribly cold.

Even though Mu Yan was wearing a lot, her hands started to feel cold at this moment.

Jiang Jingheng said, ”I’ll go buy some hot tea.”

”Okay.” Mu Yan nodded.

Zhuang Zeyang watched Jiang Jingheng’s back and suddenly said, ”He’s good to you.”

Mu Yan replied, ”He’s very good.”

Zhuang Zeyang looked at her and asked, ”Do you hate us very much in your heart?”

Mu Yan pursed her lips and said, ”Hate would mean I cared very much back then, but in truth, I didn’t.”

”Everything you say seems to cut to the heart, but it’s fortunate you are sensible and didn’t speak that way to your grandma just now,” Zhuang Zeyang sighed.

Mu Yan said nothing. Sometimes she wished she could be more cold-hearted.

Zhuang Zeyang added, ”Don’t blame your grandma, she couldn’t help it. Both sides are flesh and blood to her.”

Looking at his serious expression, Mu Yan suddenly asked, ”Although I didn’t spend much time with you and Grandpa, I could feel that you both are understanding people. So why, when my Mom was wronged back then, didn’t you speak up for her?”

”At that time, your grandpa was away on a business trip and wasn’t at the Zhuang family. By the time he got back and found out your parents were divorced, things were already irreversible. As for me, at the end of the day, it’s all my fault, I couldn’t stop it,” Zhuang Zeyang said, showing some sadness in his eyes.

Mu Yan realized it was much like she had guessed.

With Mr. Zhuang’s temperament, he would never have let her and Mom just leave like that. It seemed Liang Rong had timed her actions well.

Mu Yan asked again, ”With the Zhuang family’s influence, it’s impossible you couldn’t find me and my mom, why did you never look for us?”

”I did look for your mom, but she didn’t want to come back,” Zhuang Zeyang’s expression turned wistful, ”By then, she had remarried. It was evident that the man treated her with warmth. Although life was simple and poor, she said that was the life she wanted, with no social engagements, no husband’s suspicion or humiliation, just living her own life happily.”

Mu Yan looked at him in surprise, ”So you always knew we were in Upper City? Then why didn’t you tell Grandpa and Stepmom?”

”Your mom didn’t let me tell, and I promised her I wouldn’t. She was too headstrong, not even eight horses could bring her back,” Zhuang Zeyang’s face was full of guilt and self-reproach, ”If I had known what would happen later on, I would’ve brought her back no matter what.”

Mu Yan said nothing. She felt that what truly rendered Mom unable to accept was not Zhuang Shaoyang’s betrayal, but the realization that the family bond she had considered unbreakable was as fragile as paper. At that moment her heart turned to ash, so she resolutely left the Zhuang family, wanting nothing from them.
