After the Immortal Disappeared

Chapter 67: Chapter 68: Successful Summoning God Skill

Hee Chunhua was still reeling, filled with both lingering fear and bitter regret. He ground his teeth and spat, ”That damned Old Thief Sunx!”

No matter how slow he might be, he understood now. Sunx Fuping had ordered him to lead the Black Water City Army into the Panlong Desert with the most malicious of intentions: to use them as cannon fodder, and ultimately, as sacrifices for the slaughter.

If he hadn’t had this half of a broken comb, the Black Water City Army would have struggled to maintain the Celestial Thunder Array under the Great Wind Army’s relentless assault. When the Blood Sacrifice Array activated, they would have been wiped out in one fell swoop.

The Array’s light had now vanished, but no one dared to step inside. The Sand Bandit who had been rescued by Situ Han soon stopped writhing and moaning. He only stared at his boss, his chest heaving.

Hee Chunhua glanced over. ”He can’t be saved. Put him out of his misery.”

Situ Han’s face was ashen. He knelt and patted his brother’s shoulder, then slit his throat with a single stroke. It turned out that rescuing him had only prolonged his suffering; he couldn’t escape death in the end.

The Sand Bandit leader, a man accustomed to slaughter, silently pressed a hand to his forehead.

Looking again at the dead man’s remains, his bones were a ghastly white, even the marrow sucked dry. The Blood Sacrifice Array was too vicious; it devoured its sacrifices completely, not leaving behind a single scrap of flesh and blood.

Hee Chunhua’s expression was grim. He suddenly slashed out with his blade!

The attendant Sunx Fuping had left behind was trying to sneak away toward the ruins, but was met with the slash and beheaded.

At the same time, he roared out an order: ”Kill them! Kill all these Demons!”

Sunx Fuping and Nian Songyu originally had a dozen or so subordinates in the Array. Three died during the blood sacrifice, and Hee Chunhua had just killed another, leaving seven. Snapping back to their senses, they scattered like frightened birds, either fleeing outward or jumping into the Pool Well.

But faced with the enraged Black Water City Army, they didn’t get far before being cut down. Two of them fell at the edge of the Pool Well and were hacked into a meat paste, just a single step away from the water.

Afterward, the Black Water City Army began to count their casualties. A subordinate finally came to report, ”Sir, we’ve lost eighty brothers.”

Hee Chunhua closed his eyes and exhaled a heavy breath. Just as he was about to speak, there was a CLANG as the upright Magic Staff fell to the ground.

Before anyone could react, it suddenly flew up and shot into the Pool Well, disappearing from sight.

A fierce look flashed across Hee Chunhua’s face. ”Let’s go! We’re going into the Pool Well too!”

Just then, a pinprick of light shone out from the ruins.

Something flew out, so bright it was blinding. To Hee Lingchuan, it was like staring straight into a 5,000-watt spotlight; it was impossible to look at.

But even as he shielded his eyes, he subconsciously knew that this was the Ivory Carving.

’After all that effort, even teaming up with the Black Flood Dragon, they still failed to interrupt Sunx Fuping’s Summoning God Skill?’

’Then... what about Dad and the others?’

The Black Flood Dragon raised its severed tail and mercilessly slammed it down, trying to shatter the object.

At the same time, the Ivory Carving’s tightly shut eyes suddenly snapped open!

With a crisp CRACK, the Ivory Carving shattered, but a beam of white light flew out from within. It swirled in mid-air, as if it were lingering, or perhaps hesitating.

Fuzzy Peach’s voice trembled. ”Is that the... the god they summoned?”

The Black Flood Dragon spat several mouthfuls of searing flames at the white light. The light seemed ethereal, narrowly dodging the attacks time and time again.

There was movement from the crater below. Sunx Fuping climbed out, holding Nian Songyu, and roared hoarsely at the white light, ”My god, come to me!” With that, he held up the unconscious Nian Songyu, whose eyes were shut tight.

It was only then that Hee Lingchuan finally understood why Nian Songyu had followed the National Preceptor to Black Water City and the Panlong Desert—

To be the vessel for a deity’s descent, or in other words, to be the deity’s weapon!

The Demon Ape charged from the side, but Sunx Fuping drove it back.

He himself was covered in blood. Besides having the ring and pinky fingers of his right hand severed at the base, there was no telling how many other bones in his body were broken. He was in terrible shape.

Yet his spirits were incredibly high.

His Summoning God Skill had succeeded!

Not including the Ancient Era, this was only the fourth true Divine Descent in the history of this continent!

Sunx Fuping muttered a few words, and something flew from an unknown location to land in his hand.

It was the Magic Staff!

The Magic Staff that Sunx Fuping had left in the outer world to summon Celestial Thunder, ward off Resentful Souls, and, in other words, to activate the Sacrificial Array!

Hee Lingchuan’s pupils contracted sharply.

The Magic Staff was no longer glowing. The mouth of the beast head at its top was empty, no longer holding Hee Prefect’s Society Command.

The Black Flood Dragon had said before that Sunx Fuping had secretly embedded a Sacrificial Array to summon a Celestial God with human lives and Essence Blood. Now that the Celestial God had arrived, that meant...

”Sunx the Dog, where’s my father?!” he suddenly roared at Sunx Fuping, his voice raw with fury. ”If you dared to sacrifice him, I’ll make sure not even your corpse is left whole!”

He didn’t even have time to think as rage flooded his Sea of Consciousness, his eyes instantly becoming bloodshot and red.

”Clever boy. Quick to run for your life.” Sunx Fuping let out a chuckle, that same eerie smile on his face. ”You escaped, so naturally, your old man had to take the fall.”

With a roar, Hee Lingchuan vaulted over the battlement and leaped down.

Fuzzy Peach and Zeng Feixiong lunged forward, grabbing him and desperately pulling him back. ”Eldest Young Master, don’t be impulsive! He’s lying to you!”

Just then, the white light in the sky dodged the Black Flood Dragon’s attack and suddenly rushed toward them.

Everyone was terrified.

Wherever the white light went, the Black Flood Dragon’s Dragon Breath followed. They didn’t want to die!

But the white light was incredibly fast. Before anyone else could react, it shot into Hee Lingchuan’s mouth.

He had been in the middle of cursing, but this brought him to an abrupt halt. His eyes went vacant.

Caught completely off guard, everyone froze.

Below the wall, Sunx Fuping was equally dumbfounded. ’Why would this ancestor ignore a perfectly good Nian Songyu and go out of its way to find Hee Lingchuan?’

Seeing the Black Flood Dragon’s enormous body turn toward them, Fuzzy Peach shivered and bolted to the side, shouting as he ran, ”Scatter! Run if you don’t want to die!”

In truth, they didn’t need his reminder; the crowd had already scattered like frightened birds. Zeng Feixiong instinctively tried to drag Hee Lingchuan with him, but was instead hauled a dozen feet away by two of his own men. ”Brother Zeng, the white light might protect him, but it won’t protect you!”

They had no idea what the white light was capable of, but they knew that any other living person who stayed would be turned into a roast chicken.

The Black Flood Dragon then climbed onto the city gate, puffed out its cheeks, and looked ready to spew another mouthful of searing flames.

At that moment, however, a Demon Bird flew down and screeched twice in its ear, its voice coarse and grating.

It was unclear how the two communicated, but the Black Flood Dragon changed its mind at the last second, its cheeks deflating. It circled Hee Lingchuan twice, as if sizing him up, and then opened its great maw to swallow him whole!

...

The white light hit him point-blank; it was too fast for Hee Lingchuan to dodge.

His mind went blank for a few seconds, and white static seemed to fill his vision.

Then, his vision suddenly returned. Hee Lingchuan found himself in a state of freefall, plummeting endlessly downward.

The strangest part was that there was a black shadow directly above him, falling even faster. In the span of two blinks, it slammed into him!
