Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man

Liu Axiu couldn’t bring herself to say such foul words.

”Axiu, it’s because I watched these two boys grow up that I have to say something. I can’t just stand by and watch you slander Jing Si. If you say Teacher Lin drugged Jing Si, I might believe it. But if you say Jing Si drugged Teacher Lin? I wouldn’t believe that for a second,” Second Auntie said.

”You...” Liu Axiu pointed a trembling finger at Second Auntie.

Second Auntie wasn’t afraid of offending the Lin Family. Qin Mei was her and her older sister’s God of Wealth, and she couldn’t let them drive her away. Suddenly, as if struck by a realization, she said, ”I’ve got it! Teacher Lin must have put the drug in something meant for Jing Si, but Jing Er took it by mistake! That’s why they...”

”Second Auntie!” Xu Chunyan snapped.

”Second Auntie!” Liu Axiu cried.

They interrupted her in unison.

In the courtyard, Qin Mei wanted to give Second Auntie a round of applause. ’What a divine assist!’

”This is easy to solve. Let’s have the police investigate. It’ll be easy to find out who drugged whom. Besides, where did a drug like that come from? Whether it was bought on the black market or from a hospital, it can be traced if someone looks into it,” Granny Ning said.

Xu Chunyan panicked, a flicker of fear in her eyes. She was the one who had bought the drug, using her connection to Qiao Yanqiu to get it from the hospital. She had bought some once before and given half to her aunt. ’If Doctor Qiao finds out the drug my aunt gave to Father-in-law came from me, they’ll definitely make me pay for it later. They’ll tell Father-in-law, too!’ Xu Chunyan didn’t dare to imagine how severe the consequences would be.

”This sort of thing is bad for Yaru’s reputation, Granny Ning. If word gets out, how will Yaru ever show her face in public again? You have a daughter, you can’t ruin Yaru’s good name like this.” Xu Chunyan only wanted to handle this privately.

”Teacher Lin’s reputation is important, but that doesn’t mean you can get away with falsely accusing Jing Si. The person with Teacher Lin wasn’t Jing Si! You’re dragging him into this, and it’s completely unfair to him!” Second Auntie retorted.

”Second Auntie,” Xu Chunyan called out through gritted teeth. ’Does this woman have a grudge against me? Why does she always have to contradict everything I say?’

”The drug was bought at the hospital by Second Daughter-in-law Jing,” Mrs. Jie said out of the blue.

The Lin family members, who were in on it, didn’t react. Second Auntie and Granny Ning, however, were stunned. Jie Jingwei stared coldly at Xu Chunyan, his deep-set eyes filled with disbelief.

”I... I didn’t! It wasn’t me! I didn’t buy that kind of drug! Why would I buy a drug like that?” Xu Chunyan immediately denied it.

”Xu Chunyan, you used your connection with me to buy that drug from the hospital. Did you really think no one there would tell me?” Mrs. Jie gave a contemptuous sneer. In truth, no one from the hospital had told her a thing. Seeing Xu Chunyan’s panicked expression, she had just made a guess to bluff her. Xu Chunyan’s reaction proved she was right.

The drug really was bought by Xu Chunyan.

Granny Ning and Second Auntie had complete faith in Doctor Qiao’s words. Second Auntie pointed a finger at her. ”Second Daughter-in-law Jing, what did you buy that drug for? Don’t tell me I guessed right! You bought the drug and gave it to Teacher Lin. You used your mother’s illness as an excuse to leave Xiao You in Teacher Lin’s care, getting her to come to the Jie Family home to drug Jing Si so they could...”

”Aiyo! What goes around, comes around! Heaven is watching, and the wicked get what they deserve! You failed to frame Jing Si and ended up framing yourself instead. Teacher Lin was a virgin, and she gave her innocence to Jing Er. Let’s see how you’re going to clean up this mess.”

”Nonsense! I’ll tear your mouth off!” Xu Chunyan roared like a madwoman and charged toward Second Auntie, but Granny Ning blocked her way.

Seeing that they couldn’t pin the blame on Jing Si, Lin Yaru’s parents changed their tune in perfect unison. Liu Axiu took a step forward. ”What drugging? My daughter didn’t drug anyone! Second Daughter-in-law Jing bought that drug. Only she knows who she gave it to, but it certainly wasn’t my daughter. Oh, I know! The drug Second Daughter-in-law Jing bought... she must have given it to Jing Er!”

”So it was you, Jing Er! You always act like such a perfect gentleman, who would have thought you had such wicked designs on my daughter! My daughter was kind enough to help you by looking after Xiao You, and you used the opportunity to drug her! You took her innocence, so you have to take responsibility for her! Otherwise, we’re going to the police station. We’ll report you for drugging her and forcing yourself on her. A hooliganism charge alone would be more than you can handle, but if it’s rape, you could face a firing squad!”

The color drained from Jie Jingwei’s face. It was a fact that he had been with Lin Yaru. If the Lin family insisted that he was the one who drugged her, he would be completely unable to defend himself.

Xu Chunyan was terrified as well. Her body began to tremble. Normally so sharp-tongued, she was now unable to utter a single word in protest.

’I bought the drug and gave it to Lin Yaru. Only the two of us knew. If Lin Yaru denied it to her dying breath, I would have no choice but to suffer in silence.’
