Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man

Chapter 64: Chapter 316: Give Fourth Brother Jingqi’s Medicine

Seeing him staring at her in a daze, Qin Mei waved a hand in front of his eyes and asked, ”Jie Jingchen, what are you thinking about?”

Jie Jingchen snapped out of it. ’Can I tell her the truth?’ He guiltily averted his gaze, turning so she could only see the back of his head. ”Nothing.”

Qin Mei had no desire to admire the back of his head. She rolled over onto her back and stared at the ceiling. ”Jie Jingchen, are you going to Second Aunt’s house without changing? Do you want everyone to know that Xu Chunyan attacked you?”

”When Second Sister-in-law goes to work tomorrow, she’ll definitely tell everyone what happened today. She’ll absolutely embellish the story to slander you,” Jie Jingchen said with certainty.

Xu Chunyan’s face was burned. It was doubtful she’d be able to go to work tomorrow.

”Who’s ’she’?” Qin Mei seized on the key point, her smile both carefree and extremely suggestive. ”Your childhood sweetheart, Teacher Lin?”

Qin Mei didn’t care if Xu Chunyan slandered her. As long as she had a clear conscience, nothing else mattered.

Jie Jingchen’s face darkened. He turned and glared coldly at Qin Mei, displeased. ”What childhood sweetheart? What Teacher Lin? I don’t know her.”

Qin Mei’s mouth twitched. She tilted her head, their eyes meeting. ”Jie Jingchen, you should be more decent. The woman adores you, is deeply in love with you, and refuses to marry anyone else. And now you’re telling me you don’t know her? Who are you trying to fool?”

”You.” Jie Jingchen’s expression was grim, his eyes holding a cold displeasure.

Qin Mei stared at him, speechless. ’He really is trying to fool me.’

”Sleep now.” Qin Mei tossed out the two words, rolled over, and turned her back to Jie Jingchen.

Jie Jingchen, who was lying on his stomach, tightened his grip on the pillow. He sighed helplessly and spoke softly, ”I don’t have that kind of feeling for her.”

Qin Mei shot back sarcastically, ”The maiden is willing, but the man is not. What a shame.”

”Qin Mei.” Jie Jingchen sounded a little helpless. He disdained explaining things to begin with, especially something that wasn’t even true. He only wanted to clarify things because he was worried she would let her imagination run wild.

”Jie Jingchen, if you bother my sleep again, believe it or not, I’ll cripple you,” Qin Mei threatened.

Jie Jingchen’s devilishly handsome face instantly turned stiff and cold. A chill seeped into his eyes, along with traces of suppressed anger.

He wasn’t intimidated by Qin Mei’s threat; he was infuriated by her attitude.

This matter with Teacher Lin—he had rarely been willing to explain himself to her, but now that he was, she couldn’t be bothered to listen.

’There were two possibilities: one, she was proud and arrogant; two, she didn’t care.’

Qin Mei was truly exhausted. Sleepiness washed over her, and all she wanted to do was sleep.

’If Jie Jingchen and Teacher Lin were really in love with each other, what did it have to do with her? No, wait—with the original owner.’

’If Jie Jingchen liked Teacher Lin, would he have rolled in the sheets with the original owner and then married her? The very thought was impossible.’

’Not all childhood sweethearts end up in a requited romance. Some are just friends.’

「The next day.」

Qin Mei woke up early. Jie Jingchen wasn’t in the room. After she washed up, she saw him return carrying an aluminum lunch box.

”Come have breakfast.” Jie Jingchen placed the aluminum lunch box on the stone table under the tree, then turned to go into Jie Jingshan’s room and wheel her out.

”Fourth Sister-in-law.” Jie Jingshan was very excited, her gaze full of hope as she looked at Qin Mei.

”I’ll give you your treatment after breakfast.” Qin Mei sat on a stone stool, took her own aluminum lunch box out of a mesh bag, and opened the lid. It was sweet potato congee with pickled vegetables.

”Okay, thank you, Fourth Sister-in-law.” Jie Jingshan was all smiles as she took the lunch box Jie Jingchen handed her.

As Qin Mei was eating, Jie Jingchen placed a thick envelope on the stone table and pushed it in front of her. ”Here, this is from Mom.”

Qin Mei paused, looking at the thick envelope before her. She knew what was inside—it was definitely money.

Qin Mei finished the last mouthful of her congee, put down her chopsticks, and picked up the envelope to open it. Inside were ten-yuan notes, maybe two or three hundred yuan by the looks of it, along with various coupons: fabric coupons, grain coupons, meat coupons, and industrial coupons.

”Is this my deposit from Mom?” Qin Mei asked Jie Jingchen.

Jie Jingchen looked up, his tone deep, cold, and playful. ”No. It’s your allowance from Mom.”

Qin Mei smiled, happily putting the money away. Then she casually asked, ”What about Dad? Isn’t he planning on giving me an allowance?”

’In the Jie Family, besides the children, there was only her and Jie Jingshan... No, wait, Jing Qi was also a kid. That meant she was the only one without a job or a salary.’

’Jie Jingchen has been in the army for so many years. If he hasn’t been turning over his pay, he must have saved up quite a bit.’

’Qin Mei thought Jie Jingchen was very stingy. He knew she had no money but didn’t give her any to spend. The hundred yuan she got from Xie Jingchen at Modu Hospital was long gone.’

’You could say she was penniless. But now, with the money Mom gave her, she instantly felt more secure.’

”Wait for Dad to get home from work and ask him yourself.” Jie Jingchen picked up the aluminum lunch boxes to wash them in the kitchen.
