Chapter 196: Chapter 175: Migratory Beast Tide

He thought about the two migrating herds he’d seen that morning. ’By now, they must have traveled a good distance in this direction.’

So, Qin Ziwen attached his phone to the Beaked Eagle and sent it into the sky to scout.

Before long, the Beaked Eagle flew back with the phone.

As he detached the phone, a crowd of people gathered around. ”How is it?”

”Captain, are the herds coming? Is there anything in them Instructor Du can kill?”

Everyone was very concerned about Du Yu’s breakthrough quest.

Especially now that they knew there was a one-week time limit, everyone wanted to help.

They wanted Du Yu to complete the quest as soon as possible so they could see just how powerful he would become after breaking through the limits of a mortal.

”After Instructor Du breaks through, will he become the type to wear his underwear on the outside?” Yuan Ming asked curiously.

A flicker of confusion crossed Du Yu’s eyes. ’Undergarments on the outside?’

Having been here for so long, he knew what ”underwear” was. ’How can such an intimate piece of clothing be worn on the outside?’

”What nonsense are you spouting!” Yuan Dajun scolded the foolish boy. Instructor Du was from ancient times, and the perspectives of ancient and modern people differed in many ways. Some things just couldn’t be said carelessly.

”Instructor Du, don’t mind him. We’re just curious how powerful you’ll be after your breakthrough, and whether you’ll become like an Immortal.”

Du Yu gave a wry smile. He wouldn’t dare to imagine becoming like an Immortal.

’Just taking another step forward would be good enough.’

”Alright, quiet down. I’m looking at the video. The closest herd is about a kilometer away, and they look a bit like camels.”

Hearing they were camels, the group was a little disappointed.

”But there’s something tailing the camels.” Dragging the progress bar, Qin Ziwen spotted an old friend behind a sand dune near the camel herd—a Desert Raptor.

This Desert Raptor was stealthily trailing the camel herd. In the video, it noticed the suddenly approaching Beaked Eagle and jumped in fright.

It angrily flicked its tail, glanced back once, then turned and ran off.

Du Yu chuckled. ”It really is an old friend.”

So far, the two dinosaurs he had hunted were both Desert Raptors.

For him, prey of this size met the criteria, and its strength wasn’t overwhelmingly high.

But this also raised a problem: he had killed so many Desert Raptors that he worried he might wipe them out in this area.

In any given area, there’s a natural limit to the population of any one type of animal, especially a carnivorous, solitary predator like the Desert Raptor. Their numbers were usually not very high.

But that was a problem for later. Now that he had found a target, the priority was to get it done.

Half an hour later, the Desert Raptor that had been tailing the camel herd stopped in its tracks. It had spotted the group of approaching humans.

Though it had never tasted this new flavor before, it didn’t mind giving it a try.

”ROAR!”

The Desert Raptor spread its legs and charged forward.

Du Yu lowered his center of gravity, standing ready with his spear.

Having already hunted Raptors twice, he was becoming increasingly familiar with their attack patterns.

Ten minutes later, the Raptor collapsed in a pool of its own blood, several conspicuous, bloody holes gouged in its throat and chest.

Du Yu was breathing heavily, a nasty gash on his cheek. The Raptor’s claw had just grazed his face, nearly splitting his head open.

Fortunately, he had dodged in time, but the long claw still scraped across his face.

It was an incredibly close call.

Qin Ziwen took out some water from the Healing Spring that he’d collected in a thermos and handed it to Du Yu.

Du Yu took it and drank deeply. Wang Yun came forward to disinfect and treat Du Yu’s wound.

The members of the Hunting Team had complicated expressions. Even Instructor Du, who had already killed two Raptors, still faced immense risk when fighting his third.

Putting themselves in his shoes, they could only feel that this quest was unbelievably difficult.

Killing one could be chalked up to luck. Killing three in a row might be a stroke of incredible fortune. But killing ten in a week? That could only rely on pure strength.

Countless small points of light gathered from the body of the Raptor lying on the ground, coalescing into a gray Card.

[Building Card] Level 1 Tavern.

Just as he put the Card away, the commotion from the battle attracted the attention of some uninvited guests.

On a distant sand dune, a large pack of Single Claw Dragons stood watching the group.

”SKREEE~”

”SKREEE~”

The Single Claw Dragons let out sharp cries.

They were trying to scare the humans away.

Seeing that the humans weren’t fleeing, they even ran over and attempted to attack.

”Get lost!”

Qin Ziwen drew his Bow, nocked an arrow, and pinned one of the Single Claw Dragons to the ground with a single shot.

The remaining Single Claw Dragons immediately scattered in every direction.

”A bunch of cowards, preying on the weak and fearing the strong.” Qin Ziwu was disappointed. He thought there would be a big fight, but it turned out to be all bark and no bite.

Yuan Ming said, ”These things are like hyenas of the Gobi Desert, bullying smaller creatures and stealing prey caught by other animals.”

Wang Yun shook her head. ”From what we’ve seen, they can’t compare to modern savanna hyenas on the food chain. At least hyenas have a chance of snatching food from a lion’s jaws.”

Qin Ziwu found it strange. ”It seems like these Single Claw Dragons also came from that direction. Why are there so many animals? When we came here a couple of days ago, we barely saw anything. This morning alone, we’ve seen three or four groups.”

”Could it be some kind of migration season? Like the Great Migration in East Africa,” Wang Yun guessed.

Qin Ziwen said, ”It’s possible. If it is a great migration, it would be a good thing for Du Yu.”

A great migration would bring a huge number of animals, making it much easier for Du Yu to find targets and complete his quest.

By afternoon, the animal migration had reached its peak.

From the west came a massive, densely packed herd of wild horses.

These wild horses were somewhat similar to Mongolian Horses, but with some differences. They were larger, nearly two meters tall and four meters long, with wide, flat, fan-shaped hooves and larger nostrils. Their short, light-colored coats reflected a faint fluorescent glow under the sunlight.
