Chapter 163: Chapter 149: Encirclement Hunt

The moment the Giant Hyena King shook its head, Qin Ziwen seized the opportunity to viciously plunge the Iron Fork into its neck.

The three sharp tines sank into its flesh, and blood spurted out, splattering against the wall.

The Giant Hyena King below writhed in agony, trying to struggle.

But as soon as its hind paw landed, pain shot through its leg, causing it to twist. The Beast Trap’s serrated teeth had bitten deep enough to reveal bone, making it difficult for the creature to exert any force.

It staggered backward, the Beast Trap on its leg scraping across the floor with a piercing shriek. Finally, with a loud CRASH, its back slammed heavily into the wall, and it collapsed on the corner landing.

The cramped space made it difficult for its massive body to turn over.

At its side, Du Yu drew a Long Spear and thrust it toward the beast’s heart.

The thrust was both accurate and ruthless.

It struck true, right in the heart.

In its death throes, the Giant Hyena King suddenly unleashed its Giant Strength, its thick legs kicking against the wall with dull THUDS.

Qin Ziwen gripped the fork’s handle for dear life, bracing his right foot against the stair behind him. He was pulled forward, and a numbing pain shot through the web of his hand.

After a long while, the Giant Hyena King’s struggles grew weaker and weaker.

A few minutes later, countless points of light burst from the Giant Hyena King’s body, finally coalescing into a green Card above its corpse.

”It’s finally over.” Qin Ziwen let out a long sigh of relief. ’Thankfully, this Beast Trap was strong enough. If we’d been in a more open area, it would have been difficult to make the Giant Hyena King step on it.’

He rubbed his arm, which was aching from the exertion.

Both he and Du Yu were peak humans with Five-Star Physiques. Even with their superior strength and the advantage of a trap, they had barely managed to subdue this Giant Hyena King.

It just went to show that humans still had their limits.

There was a clear gap between their physical abilities and those of a beast.

”That’s strange. I remember two other Giant Hyenas entered the Gated Community besides this one. Why didn’t they follow?” Wang Yun said, confused.

Hearing the commotion outside, Qin Ziwen pocketed the Card and led the others out of the apartment building.

On an open patch of ground not far away, two Giant Hyenas were trapped under two large nets, besieged by a group of residents wielding long weapons.

One of the Giant Hyenas suddenly broke free from its net and pounced on the nearest person.

A swipe of its giant claws sent the person tumbling to the ground.

Then it lowered its head, clamped its jaws around the resident’s upper body, pinned his lower body with its other paw, and viciously wrenched him apart!

The resident’s scream was cut short.

Like a ragdoll being ripped to shreds, bits of flesh and internal organs flew everywhere as blood sprayed out in a fan-like arc.

This incredibly violent scene not only stunned the surrounding residents, but also made Qin Ziwen’s breath catch in his throat.

’This thing’s bite force is that terrifying?!’

’Good thing we didn’t give the Giant Hyena King a chance to do that.’

In the center of the clearing, the Giant Hyena spat out the upper half of the corpse. Its fur was now stained red with blood, much of it its own.

Instead of running, it charged toward the next closest person!

Ignoring the attacks from the Long Spears, it lowered its head and charged, knocking over the resident in front of it. A swipe of its rough paw caved in his chest on the spot.

Qin Ziwen noticed a key detail. When the Giant Hyena charged, the man’s Long Spear had indeed struck its target, but he quickly lost his grip. This lack of follow-up damage gave the beast an opportunity to close the distance.

’The core issue is still the difference in strength.’

’Of course, when facing a charging enemy like this, holding the Long Spear is the worst tactic. The best approach is to plant the butt of the spear into the ground at a forty-five-degree angle, using the earth’s stability to counter the charge.’

’The only problem is that the ground in the Gated Community is concrete, so you can’t plant a spear in it.’

The Giant Hyena rampaged through the crowd, seemingly oblivious to pain.

On the other side of the clearing, ten residents were struggling to hold a hunting net over the second Giant Hyena. Seeing the first beast charging toward them, they hastily let go of the net. However, one person wasn’t fast enough to dodge and was tackled to the ground.

Seeing the situation spiral into chaos, He Biao, who was standing at the back of the crowd, yelled anxiously, ”Don’t run! What are you afraid of? There are so many of us! We could kill them if everyone just stabbed them once! Go on, get ’em!”

A resident who had retreated sneered at him, ”Captain He, why don’t you go first? Lead by example and show us how it’s done.”

He Biao’s face flushed red. ’Who wouldn’t be scared? That thing is a killing machine.’

’Even if we manage to kill it in the end, I’d be dead by then!’

Glancing out of the corner of his eye, Zou Jianghe saw He Biao hanging back. Although he was also afraid, he knew they couldn’t back down at this critical Node.

Forcing down his fear, he took a few steps forward and roared, ”Brothers of the association, don’t be afraid! There are only two of them! Kill them, get the Card drops, and we’ll divide the meat!”

”Everyone, with me!” A powerful voice boomed from behind and to the side. Zhang Liang advanced slowly with nine other residents, shoulder to shoulder, their ten Long Spears held forward.

Soon, two more Hunting Teams joined in, forming a fan-shaped phalanx as they closed in on the Giant Hyena.

As more and more people joined, the surrounding residents spontaneously formed squads and surrounded the blood-soaked Giant Hyena in the center.

Meanwhile, the Giant Hyena still caught in the hunting net noticed that no one was holding it anymore. It glanced at the dense crowd, then bolted directly for the north gate.

Only its abandoned companion was left in the midst of the crowd.

It watched its fleeing companion.

It let out a roar of frustration.

A large net fell from above, blanketing it.

Its movements became sluggish.

Immediately after, Long Spears closed in from all directions.

The Giant Hyena leaped, crushing two people in front of it. But immediately after, seven or eight Long Spears simultaneously braced against its neck. More spears followed, forcefully halting its charge and toppling it to the ground.

The Giant Hyena wailed in agony as it lay on the ground.

But its wails were feeble and powerless against the dozens of Long Spears pressing in from all sides.

After the Giant Hyena was killed, the crowd dispersed, some people slumping straight to the ground.

Qin Ziwen’s attention was drawn to something important—the large nets.

Although they looked to be of limited durability, they could restrict and slow the beast’s movements, giving the spear formation more time to deal damage.

He began to consider how he would deal with these Giant Hyenas if he had to face them in an open area.

’Charging at you, this thing is like a small tank.’

The dead, ordinary Giant Hyenas hadn’t dropped any Cards. Qin Ziwen deduced that only Leader Level creatures from Level 1 Hunting Units, or creatures from Level 2 Hunting Units, would drop them.

”Captain Qin,” Zou Jianghe said as he walked over.

”Chairman Zou.”

”You’ve already dealt with the one in the building?” Zou Jianghe asked, a little surprised.

”Yes, it’s dealt with,” Qin Ziwen nodded.

Zou Jianghe gave him a deep look. The one that went inside earlier seemed even larger than these two outside.

To be taken care of so quickly... he suddenly understood why Qin Ziwen was ranked first in the Gated Community.

He said a few words to the people behind him, and they quickly dragged over several hunting nets.

Zou Jianghe said, ”Let’s go. We should check on the situation over there.”

The groups merged, forming a dense crowd of over a hundred people, and headed for the north gate.

By now, the fire on the first floor of the school building had mostly died out.

Near the entrance to the stairwell lay the corpses of two Giant Hyenas.

Outside the building, a pack of ten Giant Hyenas, now leaderless, milled about restlessly, letting out low, anxious roars.

Each of these Giant Hyenas was a size larger than a Siberian tiger.

Even though many of the Giant Hyenas were covered in wounds, with some even having short spears still sticking out of their bodies, no one dared to approach.
