Apocalypse Rebirth: Making Billions With My Fortune-Telling Skill

April blinked, keeping her face calm as she stared at the glowing blue screen. A creature that could absorb bad luck and neutralize poison?

A wave of genuine surprise washed over her. First, she had ended up with a divine beast that brought prosperity and good luck, and now this? A kitten that literally ate bad luck and toxins?

She couldn’t help but wonder how her own luck had become so incredibly potent in this life. Things had been going amazingly well for her even before she found Rufus, but this was getting ridiculous.

Still, she wasn’t about to complain. Having a companion that naturally neutralized toxins and environmental hazards was an incredible asset for the fortress.

With the infinite healing of her spring water set to disappear soon, this little creature was exactly what she needed. She would gladly welcome it into her inventory of assets.

”We believe in old myths and family legends,” Robert Greels explained softly, drawing her attention back to him. He smiled warmly, looking down at the basket. ”My private team found this little fellow in a deep cave up north. We noticed something bizarre in our greenhouses—wherever this kitten goes, rare toxic fungi completely wither away, and the air stays clean. It’s like it sucks away the bad luck and poison from its surroundings. We figured... well, since you seem to appreciate extraordinary animals, this little one would truly help with your long-term security.”

”It is very unique,” April said softly, extending her hand toward the basket.

The white kitten didn’t sniff her fingers like a normal cat. It let out a tiny, prideful huff, swiped its paw lightly against her knuckle without using its claws, and then turned its back on her, curling its tail tightly over its nose.

April’s lips twitched slightly. It was definitely a cat, and it clearly had an attitude.

”Thank you for this gift, Mr. Greels,” April said, her voice dropping into a rare, gentle cadence. ”The transaction between us was already fully settled, but you still went completely out of your way to secure this for me. But I’m not complaining. I always welcome useful assets.”

She adjusted the weight of her long-strapped handbag on her shoulder, looking back up at the elderly patriarch. ”If either of you requires a reading today, you may ask. I will provide the details freely.”

Robert Greels smiled warmly, waving his hand in a dismissive, peaceful gesture.

”Ah, I don’t need a reading today, my dear. I can already see myself living out the rest of my days peacefully in our new sanctuary, far away from the noise of the public crowds. But alas...” He stopped, turning his head to look at his grandson with a pitiful shake of his head, clicking his tongue loudly. ”If my grandson here does not find a partner he wants to spend the rest of his life with before the world goes up in flames, he will remain alone forever. Once the collapse hits, anyone who tries to come around him will only be after his money and resources. It will be hard to differentiate the good from the bad. Sigh. My grandson always makes me worry.”

”Grandpa,” Alexander groaned loudly, his face tightening. ”I’m way too young to get married.”

”Do you honestly think you’ll remain young forever?” Robert countered sharply, his eyes narrowing as he scolded him. ”Once the catastrophe April foresaw comes to pass, the clocks stop for no one. You will grow old and die completely alone in that bunker.”

Alexander turned his head away sharply, his jaw setting. His eyes instinctively rolled over toward April’s calm profile, lingering on her for a few silent seconds before he completely looked away into the grass.

”I don’t even have anyone in mind yet anyway, so... it doesn’t matter.” He grumbled.

April watched the interaction in silence, her mind drifting down a completely different track. Getting a girlfriend aside, she thought dryly, is he even currently able to function properly as a man? Or has he actually managed to fix his problem?

”April, dear,” Robert suddenly chimed in, leaning forward with a hopeful glint in his old eyes. ”I think you could do us a massive favor and foresee my grandson’s love life. Just a quick check to see if he’s destined to remain a lonely man forever.”

Alexander’s entire face violently flushed with deep, agonizing embarrassment.

”Grandpa!” he groaned through his teeth, his knuckles turning white inside his pockets. ”I don’t need a relationship fortune-telling! Drop it!”

Robert Greels let out another long, heavy, and thoroughly disappointed sigh. ”I guess I am destined to live and die without ever seeing a single great-grandchild in the end.”

Alexander growled under his breath. ”You already have a grandchild. Why are you so demanding? Sheesh!” He grumbled and turned his head away. ”Come on, Miss April, I’ll walk you to your car.”

A few minutes later, they were walking down the long stone pathway toward the waiting vehicle that would take April back home.

Alexander kept his eyes glued to the gravel, rubbing the back of his neck as he muttered an apology. ”Look... I’m really sorry about my grandfather’s attitude back there. He’s been completely nagging me about this stuff since the liquidation started.”

April waved it off with her hand, a genuine, rare smile breaking across her face.

”Do not apologize. Your grandfather gives off a very good vibe.” She said, her voice warm but not emotional. ”He is thinking a lot for your future, just as you are currently thinking for his safety. Do not look at his concern as something burdensome.”

Alexander paused, about to say something defensive, but he stopped himself. He shook his head and let out a quiet sigh. ”Yeah. You’re right. Maybe I’ll put some actual thought into it.”

”By the way,” April mentioned casually, her grip tightening slightly on the wicker basket handles as she looked down at it. ”Have you gone to see a professional therapist for your private problem yet? You know... the erect—”

”You don’t have to say the full word out loud!” Alexander hissed instantly, his ears turning bright, furious crimson as he cut her off, throwing a panicked glance toward the driver.
