Chapter 1986: Chapter 1986: The Covert Outcome for Leng Nicen

The Ninth-Grade Nourishing Yuan Pill, he had only heard of it, but had never seen one. Before, in an attempt to help Yi Kun, they had sent people to Huayan Peak to request this medicine, but the alchemists there could not refine Nourishing Yuan Pills, so they had given up.

However, now the High Priest had actually bestowed a Nourishing Yuan Pill.

Unfortunately, at this point, the Nourishing Yuan Pill didn’t have much use for Yi Kun, other than temporarily warding off his imminent demise.

…

Over at Leng Nicen’s side, while he was resting in his room, the Great Elder stood guard in the courtyard like a door deity, vigilant at all hours.

Even when Lady Leng had sent the maid over, she was turned away by the Great Elder whose stern and murderous demeanor deterred her from getting too close.

Though night had fallen, the Great Elder dared not relax in the slightest.

After such open and brazen attempts on Nichen’s life from so many people outside, now that he was within the Sect, why would Lady Leng easily let the Young Sect Master be?

Surely any slack on his part would invite a fatal strike.

Leng Yiyu was among those who also couldn’t sleep, continuously sending people to keep watch over the courtyard where Leng Nicen was staying. She, herself, made several trips, hoping to secretly finish off Leng Nicen.

But each time, she found the Great Elder guarding the courtyard, cursing under her breath while also feeling frustrated at how Leng Nicen always seemed to be so lucky. After all, the Great Elder’s mission was simply to fetch someone upon her father’s orders, and he had no personal relationship with Leng Nicen; why then had he become so fiercely protective of Leng Nicen upon their return?

She truly couldn’t comprehend why the Great Elder insisted on protecting Leng Nicen.

Where was she inferior to Leng Nicen? Even though she was a woman, her cultivation level and everything else were far better than her sickly brother. She was the rightful heir of the Eternal Night Sect, to go with the will of heaven…

But frustratingly, some people failed to recognize her merits and associated her with Leng Nicen, an outsider brought into the fold.

At this moment, she wished she could get rid of the Great Elder along with him.

However, given the Great Elder’s high cultivation level, he was not an opponent she could defeat. Should a real fight break out within the Eternal Night Sect, she certainly wouldn’t come out on top.

She always obeyed her mother, but she was not foolish—in fact, she considered herself to be very smart and would never engage in actions detrimental to herself.

Just like now, with the Great Elder constantly guarding Leng Nicen, and with her unable to find a way in, she could only think of other methods.

“Send someone to the Great Elder’s courtyard to fetch his son, to lure the Great Elder away,” she said, turning to instruct the maid in a hushed tone.

The maid was a new one; the previous, who had proved incompetent, had been disposed of by Lady Leng.

“Miss, isn’t that inappropriate?”

When the maid heard her mistress’s words, she hesitantly spoke up.

Would the Great Elder’s son listen to a mere maid? Even if she claimed it was the miss’s order, he wouldn’t pay heed, as he listened only to the Great Elder.

She was well aware that the Great Elder’s son wouldn’t even ignore the Sect Leader’s words; he was the very epitome of a filial son.

Now that the Great Elder was protecting Leng Nicen, his son would only offer support.

She felt that if she really did go to the Great Elder’s courtyard and relay the message, the son might come running over to help his father guard Leng Nicen.

In that case, the opponents Miss Yiyu would have to face wouldn’t be just the Great Elder, but his son as well, making the situation even more challenging.
