Counterfeit Hero

This type of base is not only powerful in defense but also easy to mobilize. With the advance of ground forces, the base can maintain its distance from the front line at any time! Of course, this requires complete air supremacy.

Lunan turned his head to look around while on the escalator, the base was bustling with activity.

Not far away, groups of fully armed soldiers were patrolling along the golden navigation lines of the airport. Two army green cargo Mechas, one in front of the other, in road travel mode, were pulling long trailers loaded with military boxes toward the tall entrance of the giant transport ship.

The loud engine sounds from the Mechas in the training ground, the commands from soldiers during drills, and the takeoff and landing noises of the patrol aircrafts intertwined, creating a cacophony.

Stepping down the gangway, dozens of senior generals waiting not far ahead quickly walked over to greet him.

Leading the group was Lunan’s old partner, Vice Admiral Warren Connelly, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ryan First Army Group.

Seeing Connelly approaching, Lunan suddenly slowed his pace.

Having worked with Connelly for many years, Lunan knew Connelly had always been a stoic soldier who remained calm even in the direst situations. But at this moment, Connelly’s face was extraordinarily pale, his thin lips tightly pressed together, an extremely heavy expression on his face.

”What’s happened?” After returning the salute to the officers, Lunan grasped Connelly’s outstretched hand.

”From early morning until now, the Naga Federation Army has launched tens of attacks on our defenses. Six hours ago, the Feiyang Republic’s 139th Armored Division stationed at Haizi Ridge on the eastern line of the Beisi Mountains was completely annihilated under the joint attack of a Binart and Naga Federation allied force! I dispatched the 105th Armored Division and the 331st Armored Division to reinforce, along with four fully mechanized infantry divisions stationed along the Aisen River, to march urgently to the eastern line. But ten minutes ago, we received the news that both the 105th and 331st divisions were defeated! The enemy not only destroyed our two armored divisions but also penetrated the immediate resistance of four infantry divisions. Now, they are circling west along the Aisen River!”

Connelly spoke, seemingly a bit unsteady.

Lunan’s face turned deathly pale. He supported Connelly and hurriedly asked: ”The Feiyang Republic’s 139th Armored Division is equipped with Ninth Generation ’Heaven’s Punishment,’ an A-level armored division! How could they be completely wiped out without any noise? How concentrated is the enemy’s force at Haizi Ridge?!”

Connelly’s lips trembled, his gaze fixed on Lunan with a strange expression. After struggling for a long time, he finally managed to squeeze out a sentence: ”The 23rd and 74th Armored Divisions of the Naga Federation, and a Mechanical Armor Team of the Binart Empire’s 9th Armored Division!”

After a long time, Lunan managed to swallow his saliva with difficulty and hesitantly asked: ”That’s it?”

”That’s it!” Connelly licked his parched lips and rasped: ”The main attackers were the Binart Empire’s Mechanical Armor Team. The Feiyang Republic’s 139th Division held for four hours, our two divisions relied on six high grounds by the river to obstruct in turns, but only lasted three hours! Now, they are rapidly circling behind our lines, with the Naga Federation Army launching a full-scale attack on the Beisi Mountain line. Our troops can no longer withdraw!”

After finishing, Connelly waved his hand, and an aide approached with a battlefield recorder. He connected the battlefield recorder to a portable display device and activated the switch.

A red light emerged from the display device, quickly splitting into two fan-shaped beams, swirling rapidly. After a mass of colorful light clusters vanished, a combat scene appeared on the virtual screen.

In front of the positions filled with Feiyang Ninth Generation ’Heaven’s Punishment’ Mechas, thousands of Naga Federation Mechas were launching an attack led by nine unidentified model Binart Mechas. The nine leading Mechas had headpieces resembling Spartan helmets and leaf-shaped shoulder guards.

Their slender figures darted, running at high speed up the steep slope, occasionally jumping evasively, shooting, mutually covering. Quickly, they charged up the position...

Watching the virtual screen Mechas, Lunan suddenly turned deathly pale.

”Binart Twelfth Generation Mechas, designated ’Judgers,’ unveiled on Evergreen Vine Star. With the strength of a team, they coordinated with the frontal assaults of Naga’s two armored divisions, annihilating our 139th Armored Division, crushing Ryan’s 105th and 331st Armored Divisions, defeating Ryan’s 11th, 275th, and 39th fully mechanized infantry divisions and two regiments of the Sixteenth Division. Circling the west and south lines of Beisi Mountains, they assisted the Naga 3rd and 5th Army Groups in breaking through the Ryan Army’s defenses.”

”As of June 11th, Naga Federation’s 23rd and 74th Armored Divisions have battled for 48 hours, crushing six of our allied armored divisions, breaking through the Beisi Mountain defense line. Under the siege of Ryan Army’s reinforcements, they lost two-fifths of their force and were then forced to converge with the enemy’s 3rd Army Group, withdrawing from the Beisi Mountain line for rest. All nine of Binart Empire’s ’Judgers’ remain intact, still engaged in combat. The direct casualties inflicted by these Mechas on our troops have thus far approached two regiments.”

Fei Alliance Military Department, Hastings moved quickly along the corridor while operating the control lever on his wheelchair, listening expressionlessly to the hurry-paced oral report of the aide beside him. The wheelchair paused before the automatic alloy explosion-proof door, a green light swept across, and the door opened automatically.

”Notify the Combat Department to convene a meeting, now!” Hastings ordered without turning his head. The wheelchair moved inside, the automatic door closing slowly.

Minutes later, dozens of senior generals and Combat Department staff arrived hurriedly at the conference room.

When the last aide entered the conference room and took a seat, Hastings’ voice sounded in the room without any prelude.

”I command! The 5th Mixed Group Fleet, immediately execute Operation Plan 121, launch an attack on airspace A79 of Karsdon Star River, ensure total annihilation of enemy’s 21st and 34th fleets in that airspace!”

”Command, the 1st Mixed Group Fleet, immediately head to Noah Star System in Karsdon Star River, coordinate with the 4th Mixed Group Fleet, execute Operation Plan 7, destroy the enemy’s 9th Mixed Group Fleet. Open the route to attack Binart homeland!”

”Command, the 35th Fleet, set off immediately, bringing Army’s 8th, 9th, 107th, 109th... a total of 13 B-level armored divisions and 30 fully mechanized infantry divisions, proceed to Ryan Republic, station at Ryan Cape Star System, assist Ryan Army’s retreat.”

”Command, the Southeast Expeditionary Army’s First Army Group to merge with the Second Army Group, fully assist in the defense of Central Leray Star Domain. Before December 1st, ensure the joint forces of Suss and Jiepeng are blocked outside Leray Channel. Fiscella, appointed overall commander of Expeditionary Army!”

”Command, the entire army to enter Level 1 combat readiness. Southwest Military District, Northwest Military District, immediately assemble troops according to Operation Plan 2, ready to participate in the attack on Binart Empire! Notify Alliance Command Center, a teleconference combat meeting to be held in one hour. Also, get me connected with President of Chuckna, I want to speak with him personally!”

Hastings’ sudden series of orders were like nuclear bombs detonating in the conference room. The generals exchanged solemn glances, none knowing why Hastings ordered a large-scale offensive at this moment.

”Any questions?” Hastings looked around.

”Marshal.” A senior Army general couldn’t hold back, standing up and asking: ”Why choose this moment to launch an attack? It does not align with the Republic’s interests!”

The general regretted his words the moment he said them, his expression becoming uneasy. Perhaps influenced by the great shock, overly impulsive, he hadn’t expected to speak to Hastings in such a questioning tone.

The conference room fell into silence.

After a long pause, Hastings waved his hand, did not provide an explanation. He steered his wheelchair toward the door, saying lightly: ”We are soldiers, not politicians. Any military decisions must be made based on the situation at the time and place. I can’t answer your question. Execute the orders!”

The roomful of generals and officers stood up, watching Hastings leave.

Suddenly, they felt the back of this undefeated War God appeared so old and weary! This thought flashed in their minds simultaneously, yet none spoke it aloud.

From a distance, Hastings’ voice murmured to himself: ”That aligns with humanity’s interests!”
