The Interstellar Queen of Scavengers

Chapter 1017: Chapter 1017: Dr. Cheng

Male Doctor: ”Don’t be afraid.”

Ji You: ”...”

Male Doctor: ”It’s very simple, very easy.”

Ji You: ”...”

Holy crap!

It was fine when he didn’t speak, but as soon as he opened his mouth, Ji You couldn’t help but shiver.

Even scarier.

Even more afraid.

Even more panicked.

...

[Beep—]

[Destruction complete! Please verify.]

The notification sound from the recycling machine finally brought a hint of normalcy back to the eerie atmosphere in the medical room. Ji You clutched his chest, thinking it was finally over. But in the next second, the male doctor, named Cheng Zhi, said, ”For the next three days, you’ll stay in the medical room. You can leave once your hand is reattached.”

Ji You: ”...”

Oh no.

I feel like I’m about to be caught for human experiments.

But...

This doctor was personally recommended to me by Senior Ye Liqiang, who is the big nephew of Professor Ye Hong, his real nephew... Could it be that all this is Professor Ye Hong’s doing?

Cough cough...

I’m overthinking it.

No matter how much the old professor dislikes me, he wouldn’t be so malicious. Besides, this is the Alliance Military’s Space Station, responsible for guarding our borders.

How could they do such illegal things here?

Ji You quickly patted his head.

”No need to be afraid, urology is just my current profession and future research direction. I used to be a surgeon, specializing in reattaching severed legs, hands, and feet... from the moment I held a scalpel until now, there has never been a mistake of swapping body parts in my hands,” Doctor Cheng Zhi said with a kind smile as he looked at Ji You’s expression, ”Hasn’t Luo Wei ever scared you?”

Ji You put on a serious face and said, ”Doctor, I won’t allow you to smear Dr. Luo’s name. Dr. Luo is a warm, kind, approachable, and respectable good doctor. She treats us like a dear big sister and has never intimidated me or my classmates.”

Cough cough...

Except for when Dr. Luo first examined my spiritual power and threatened to slice me up for research.

”Oh—,” Cheng Zhi said, ”Boring.”

Ji You: ”...”

For the first time, Ji You felt that a doctor’s ’interesting’ was truly a terrifying thing and best avoided.

...

After handling everything, Doctor Cheng Zhi glanced at the data. All results were normal.

After giving some instructions to Ji You, Cheng Zhi put down his medical tools and was about to leave when he adjusted his glasses, glanced over to Ji You’s chest, and then suddenly took a small object from his Space Button and tossed it toward Ji You.

Ji You was taken aback.

Cheng Zhi casually said, ”For the little disabled thing hiding in your arms.”

Ji You: ”!!!”

With that said, Cheng Zhi opened the door, about to leave—

Since being with Ji You, the Little Golden Dragon, as a biological mecha, didn’t like being confined in the Space Button. So, Ji You didn’t limit it and instead gave it permission to open and close the Mechanical Space Button, allowing the Little Golden Dragon to enter and exit freely. However, when Ji You and the others descended to the underground illegal laboratory, even before encountering Ying Tu and their group, the Little Golden Dragon became silent. It even voluntarily hid inside the Mechanical Space Button.

Until just before Ji You got injured, the Little Golden Dragon had not appeared. Had it not sensed Ji You was on the verge of emotional collapse, it secretly crawled out to throw Ji You a protective net. The Little Golden Dragon had no intention of showing itself.

After that.

When Ye Liqiang and his group arrived, and after Ji You consumed a special object, then Ji You, Chu Jiaojiao, and the others were escorted to the Jiao Space Station under Ye Liqiang’s command, the Little Golden Dragon remained hidden.

It stayed quietly in the mech’s dedicated Space Button, silent as a chicken.

Although Ji You found it a bit odd, he didn’t pay much attention. When Cheng Zhi tossed over something, the Space Button on his chest suddenly opened a crack, and a tail of the Little Golden Dragon quietly emerged.

Ji You didn’t clearly see what Doctor Cheng Zhi tossed over, yet the tail of the so-called disabled little thing suddenly flicked, hooked the dark item Cheng Zhi tossed in a blink, and tightly curled it within the Little Golden Dragon’s tail. In the next instant, the Little Golden Dragon’s tail swiftly retracted back into the Space Button.

This entire sequence, from start to finish, took less than a second.

Ji You had no time to worry about it. Seeing Cheng Zhi about to step out of the door, she hurriedly said, ”Doctor! Please wait!”

Cheng Zhi: ”???”

Ji You flashed an embarrassed smile and said, ”Uh... Honestly, I’m scared you might use my genes for some weird experiments, so please stop and let me confirm that you didn’t carry any of my gene fragments out of this medical room.”

Cheng Zhi: ”...”

Cheng Zhi laughed, ”Not bad, your sense of precaution is good.”

Then he gestured to the medical assistant robot to bring over a gene detector—

Ji You’s face was all smiles, saying, ”Cough cough... Doctor, it’s not that I don’t trust you, but you really look like an old hand at illegal experiments. I’m afraid... Please forgive my offense, but... I don’t trust the gene detector in this medical room. Could you please contact my classmates and have them assist me with the check, is that okay?”

After Ji You finished speaking, she expected Doctor Cheng Zhi to get angry, or at least a bit upset. However, there wasn’t the slightest hint of anger on his face; instead, he smiled and said, ”Good sense of precaution.”

Trusting his words but not trusting him.

Instant application of knowledge.

Good.

Cheng Zhi chuckled and said, ”Go ahead, call your classmates over.”

”Hehe...” Ji You gave a sheepish grin to Doctor Cheng Zhi, then, without wasting a second, called over Sheng Qingyan, Yue Qiguang, and Yue Qiyuan. The three of them came over as soon as they heard, immediately ready to go, not relaxing even a bit, and without any courtesy, thoroughly and meticulously checked Cheng Zhi all over. Only after confirming he hadn’t taken any gene fragments of Ji You or other comrades did they let him leave.

Once Cheng Zhi left, Yue Qiguang scratched his head and said, ”This is why dad hates doctors the most! Doctors are such a troublesome species.”

Yue Qiyuan glanced at him, ”When you were risking your life, it was a doctor who saved you.”

Yue Qiguang: ”...”

Ji You clutched his pounding heart. Although he knew Doctor Cheng Zhi had no ill intentions, what he said suddenly made Ji You realize that biological gene fragments, if used appropriately, could also harm people. He thus learned a more cautious way to protect himself. So, Ji You remarked, ”From now on, let’s carry a gene detector with us.”

At any time and place, never leave behind any of your genes.

Upon hearing this, everyone nodded.

Just then—

The Little Golden Dragon, which had been quietly curled up in the Space Button, peeked out a bit: ”Uh... I think I’ve seen this person somewhere before.”
