Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 1197: A Soul Remnant

When Zhang Fei [1] stepped inside, the room became bright and many people, consisting of humans and demons, were discussing serious matters. What surprised him the most was one of the people among them, especially since the man was a human and a demon, just like him. ’Mei.’

[Yes, Master. As you guessed, the man is indeed a human and a demon like you. His demon identity is a moon demon, like the main member of the Silver Moon Clan. I never expected that someone like him had existed since long ago, and his two forms had also reached equilibrium.]

Zhang Fei [1] nodded slightly and tried to listen to the people’s conversation, which was about a technique that combined the power of humans and demons. ’Heaven-Demon Silver Annihilation.’

{Can you see us?} Zhang Fei [1] was startled and turned to the woman who had asked him. {Oh, you really can see us.}

”Who are you? Aren’t these just memories left in this place? How can you talk to me?”

{My past name is Yin Shizi, and I used to be the chief researcher of my Silver Moon Clan. These are all memories, and they are memories of my past. As for me, this is just a mere remnant of my soul, and I deliberately left it in this place before my death to wait for a person with two identities like Yin Yuemo. You do look like an ordinary human from the outside, but I can feel a demon aura emanating from you, which means you also have two identities like him.}

Zhang Fei [1] looked at the man. ”He was Yin Yuemo, right? How could he have two identities?”

Yin Shizi shook her head. {We never knew how Yin Yuemo could have been born with two identities, and we have been trying to uncover the mystery behind his birth and two identities. Unfortunately, our efforts never bore fruit, and he was the only member of our clan who had two identities in the past. He had a son and a daughter in the past, but they didn’t have two identities like him. His son was a human, and his daughter was a moon demon.}

”That’s weird.” Zhang Fei [1] then asked her another question. ”Did you guys create the Heaven-Demon Silver Annihilation technique specifically for him?”

{Yes.} Yin Shizi let out a regretful sigh. {We did create that technique specifically for Yin Yuemo, but that was our biggest mistake, and it also caused the disaster.}

”What exactly happened? How could that technique have caused the disaster back then?”

Yin Shizi pulled the book toward her before giving it to him. {Try reading this technique.}

”Alright.” Zhang Fei [1] read it straight away. ”The user’s body transforms into a colossal silhouette of silver light intertwined with demonic shadows, resembling a god and devil fused as one. Wherever the technique is unleashed, the sky turns silver-black. The final technique condenses all qi and demon essence into a single destructive pulse that erases everything within a radius of miles of heaven and earth; it throws off the balance between being human and being a demon in the user. Upon doing so, the human side will be destroyed, turning them into a pure demon, or the demon side will collapse, leaving the user as a frail mortal who can never cultivate again. In the end, Yi Yuemo turned into a pure demon, and he was the initial cause of the disaster.”

{Yin Yuemo initiated the disaster, which culminated in the annihilation of both clans.} Then, Yin Shizi pointed to the book in Zhang Fei [1]’s hand. {Back then, I was too late to destroy this book, and I no longer have the ability to destroy it. As long as this book exists, the danger may recur in the future, and the outcome may be even more severe than it was then. Therefore, I deliberately left this strand of my soul here, and I hope you will help me destroy it.}

Zhang Fei [1] did not immediately agree to Yin Shizi’s request because the technique greatly piqued his interest, and he wanted to learn it to add to his collection of techniques. However, he remembered the situation when he almost fell under the control of the Cursed Demon Heart, and he also remembered the worry on his wives’ faces at that time.

Zhang Fei [1] released a soft sigh and used his eternal flame to burn the book to ashes. ”It’s done.”

{Eternal Flame! How... How did you manage to obtain the Eternal Flame?} Yin Shizi screamed in shock.

”I never obtained the Eternal Flame, and she gave me a fragment of her flame.” Zhang Fei [1] retracted his flame.

{The Eternal Flame gave you her flame fragment.} Yin Shizi muttered to herself, staring at him.

Zhang Fei [1] nodded slightly. ”Since you died long ago, and this wisp of your soul is tied to this place, you probably don’t know that the Eternal Flame is in this dungeon now. Furthermore, she is not alone, and she is together with Guang Zhiyi.”

{Guang... Guang Zhiyi...} Yin Shizi stuttered. {Is it true? Is she really in this place now?}

”The current her is not Guang Zhiyi but Feng Yao, but they are still the same person, and I know her to some extent.” Zhang Fei [1] then asked her. ”Is there anything interesting in this place besides those technique books?”

{This place is our library, so there’s nothing interesting here besides those books.} Yin Shizi looked outside for a moment before returning her gaze to him. {Thank you for destroying the book, and I can rest in peace because the disaster will never happen again. My Silver Moon Clan has long been perished, and those books are our legacy. I hope you will share them with other cultivators, and our legacy will live on through them.}

Zhang Fei [1] nodded at her. ”In fact, I’m establishing a new sect now, but we don’t have many techniques in other fields because it used to be a dual cultivation sect. Therefore, I’m thinking of transferring those books to my sect, and I’ll allow our future disciples to learn them. This way, your Silver Moon Clan’s legacy will be part of us, and it will live on forever.”

{I think your idea is the best choice compared to those techniques spreading widely, and the disciples of your sect will inherit the legacy of my clan. My time is up, and this soul will disappear. Once again, I sincerely thank you for destroying the book.}

”Rest in peace.” After Yin Shizi’s soul disappeared, Zhang Fei [1] left the room. He asked everyone there to pack up all the technique books, which excited them.

[Master, I have recorded the Heaven-Demon Silver Annihilation technique into the system, so you can still learn it if you wish.]

Zhang Fei [1] was not surprised by this, especially since Mei was always like that. However, he had no desire to learn the technique because he feared that learning it might transform him into a pure demon like Yin Yuemo did in the past, which would only make all his wives sad.

[Do you want me to delete it, Master?]

”Just keep it for now, Mei.”

[Alright.]

Zhang Fei [1] suddenly sensed the presence of two powerful auras in front of the Endless Night Sanctum, and he rushed to investigate, finding Su Shentian and Jian Kuang standing outside the barrier.

”Haha! I knew you were there!” Jian Kuang exclaimed as he laughed. ”Hey! Open this barrier so we can go in.”

”You know the situation isn’t right for us to spar swords, right?” Zhang Fei [1] approached the barrier while asking Duanmu Lolan how to open it, and he immediately opened it for the two men.

”Haha.” Jian Kuang laughed at that. ”Naturally, I know that, but I didn’t come here to spar with you. Moreover, I was already satisfied after killing hundreds of those evil beasts and demons, but unfortunately, that Nine-Headed Evil Bird managed to escape from me.”

”Did you have a problem with that bird?”

Jian Kuang nodded at him. ”That cowardly bird massacred the people of my hometown, and I’ve been hunting him ever since. Unfortunately, he always managed to escape from my pursuit, so I still haven’t managed to avenge the villagers against him.”

”I see.” Zhang Fei [1] nodded slightly.

”So, what did you find in this place? How did you manage to open this barrier?” Su Shentian asked him.

Zhang Fei [1] shrugged his shoulders slightly. ”You were present at the auction that time, so you should know that I am an array master, right? In fact, one of my wives opened it, especially since I went to save three people from the winged race who were attacked by that evil bird before.”

”So, what did you find in this place?”

”This place is the library of the Silver Moon Clan, and there are many techniques in it.” Su Shentian and Jian Kuang exchanged surprised glances. ”I’ve asked them to pack up those books, and I’ll move them to my sect. If you two are interested in finding new techniques, you can go there again to choose them later.”

Jian Kuang readily agreed. ”You still owe me a spar, so I’ll go to your sect to spar with you and see those techniques.”

”I’m in!” Su Shentian also agreed. ”I heard the Silver Moon Clan was powerful in the past, so they should have a lot of good techniques.”

”Let’s go in first.”
