Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 1142: Sky-Severing Sword

’Husband, why did your master decide to summon his sword in a place like this?’

Zhang Fei [5] remembered his old conversation with Han Ling. ’Back then, he told me that he wanted to look for Ye Futian for something, which was related to his late master. However, he had only just arrived in this domain at that time, so I forbade him to do so, and I took him to the Immortal Lotus Sanctuary instead. Since Ye Mingran is the Eternal Night Demon God, he wants to use this opportunity to find that demon.’

’I see.’ Luo Yunxiao nodded in understanding before asking Feng Yao. ’Do you think his decision will bring trouble for us, Big Sis Yao?’

Feng Yao shook her head in response. ’Even if these people knew about Han Ling’s relationship with the Eternal Night Demon Race, they wouldn’t be able to accuse him of conspiring with them. If you can see it, his aura is pure white without the slightest stain. There is no evil in him because he has long been at peace with himself; he is much more righteous and benevolent compared to these people.’

’Hmm?’ Luo Yunxiao observed Han Ling seriously, but she was confused by Feng Yao’s answer about him.

”Senior, I got this sword from my late master, and he got it from my grandmaster, Ye Futian, when he was looking for his daughter in the Three Mortal Realms.” Han Ling’s revelation shocked the audiences, but the female sword spirit immediately came out of the sword as soon as he summoned her out. ”You should be able to recognize Yong Heng, right?”

”Is what he said just now true?” Ye Mingran asked the female sword spirit directly.

Yong Heng hurriedly explained. ”Demon God, my master did not lie to you. Master Ye Futian handed his sword to my master’s late master and took him as his disciple, mainly because he was amazed by his talent in swordsmanship. Before his master died, he passed the sword to him, and he has been my master since then.”

Then, Ye Mingran asked Han Ling another question. ”Did you show this sword on purpose?”

Han Ling nodded at her. ”Before my master died, he left me a letter, asking me to hand it over to Grandmaster Ye Futian if I ever had the chance to ascend to this realm. Since you are the Eternal Night Demon God, I deliberately took out this sword, and I hope you are willing to take me to see him.”

”Aren’t you afraid of death?” Ye Mingran asked with narrowed eyes. ”Look at these people; they can’t wait to kill me, and they will kill you if you have any relationship with my race.”

Han Ling smiled when he heard that. ”Isn’t death a part of life? There is no immortality; even the strongest cultivators will die at the end of their lifespan. Moreover, I have achieved everything in this life, except for peak cultivation. So, why should I be afraid of death?”

Unlike most of the auction participants who booed Han Ling, Puyang Shangren looked amazed at him after hearing all that. He didn’t interrupt them and let them finish their conversation first, especially since it was related to the wills of dead people.

Ye Mingran was also quite impressed by Han Ling. ”I can take you to see Ye Futian, but my domain is a demon domain, and the demon aura there will turn you into a demon. If you turn into one, people will curse and hate you, and you will never be able to return to those closest to you.”

”Hahaha.” Han Ling laughed at that. ”In my entire life, I have met countless people from many races, be they humans, winged races, beasts, demons, or natural races. Many of them acted in the name of righteousness, but in reality, they were far worse than demons. They did not only betray their friends, but they also betrayed their families. Instead, I knew several demons who helped other people a lot, and they helped them without anything in return. Even if I had to become a demon and become an enemy of many people to convey my late master’s will to Grandmaster Ye Futian, I would never regret my decision.”

The atmosphere fell silent after Han Ling spoke, but many people felt insulted by his words, which implied that they were far worse than demons, causing their faces to flush with anger. They wanted to attack him, but their guts sank as soon as they remembered that he was in the same group as Feng Yao.

Jian Kuang suddenly clapped as he stood up from his seat. ”Little Han, your words are true. Not all humans, winged races, beasts, or natural races are righteous people. As you just said, many of them are hypocrites, and I know of a race whose members dared to betray and kill their previous king. On the other hand, not all demons are evil, and there are many good demons out there. Unfortunately, such a mindset has been passed down since ancient times, and it will continue to be passed down to the generations after us.”

The faces of Jia Leixuan and the members of the fairy race darkened after Jian Kuang mentioned that, and everyone’s eyes immediately turned to them, especially because of the rumors circulating outside about the current fairy king killing his predecessor.

Jia Leixuan squeezed the armrest of his chair until it cracked. ’This bastard! He’s truly tired of living! I will report this matter to my king!’

”Hahaha.” Jian Kuang suddenly laughed. ”It seems that some people here feel offended by my words, particularly given those are unproven rumors. By the way, I won’t interrupt the conversation between the two of you anymore, and you should decide quickly, especially since I can’t wait to try the tests of the Sky-Severing Sword.”

”Yes.” Han Ling nodded to Jian Kuang before speaking to Yan Mingran again. ”Please take me to your domain after this, and I will leave immediately after I hand over my late master’s letter to grandmaster Ye.”

”Since you insist, I’ll take you with me after this auction.” Ye Mingran immediately flew back to her two friends’ side and sat back down in her chair with her gaze still focused on Han Ling. She then sent a voice transmission to Ye Futian, informing him about the matter.

Puyang Shangren then handed the Sky-Severing Sword to Han Ling. ”You must know your limits and weaknesses, or this sword will kill you.”

”I understand, senior.” Han Ling stored the eternal night sword in his storage ring again before accepting the Sky-Severing Sword. He held the hilt with one hand, and he held the scabbard with the other. He then activated his sword Qi and channelled it into the sword, but he suddenly received a strong attack on his mental strength, causing him to stagger backwards.

Han Ling felt extremely dizzy as many memories appeared by themselves in his mind, which were the memories of the Sky-Severing Sword.

The Sky-Severing Sword fell to the floor at the same time as Han Ling Yang fell to his knees. He breathed heavily as his head became truly heavy, not physically but mentally. ”Hah... Hah...”

Puyang Shangren released a heavy sigh and sucked the sword into his hand. ”I admit your talent in swordsmanship, but unfortunately, this sword does not want you to become its master.”

”Yes, Senior.” Han Ling quickly calmed himself down and stood up. Although he failed to obtain the Sky-Severing Sword, there was no hint of disappointment in his expression, and he returned to his seat with his head held high.

Jian Kuang didn’t immediately take his turn and thought deeply while staring at the Sky-Severing Sword, as he felt something was wrong with it.

”Don’t you want to try it now?” Puyang Shangren asked him.

Jian Kuang shook his head slightly. ”Let those who want to try it go first, Senior.”

’This kid seems to have realized it.’ Puyang Shangren then asked the others. ”Do any of you want to try to obtain this sword? Or are you just cowardly sword masters who don’t have the guts to try?”

Puyang Shangren’s words offended and excited the sword masters present simultaneously, prompting them to hurriedly take their turns to try to obtain the Sky-Severing Sword.

People kept trying to get the Sky-Severing Sword, but to no avail. The sword refused to accept any of them as its master, and some of them were injured because they were too arrogant and greedy.

After everyone had taken their turn, Jian Kuang finally took his. He didn’t immediately try to unsheathe the sword from its scabbard; instead, he rubbed it and tried to speak to it. However, the sword didn’t respond to him, confusing him. ’I can sense the spirit’s presence within this sword, but it doesn’t want to communicate with me. Usually, sword spirits will answer my call even if they are unwilling to accept me as their master, but the one inside this sword seems different from them.’

’Sigh!’ Puyang Shangren sighed inwardly, certain that Jian Kuang would also fail to gain the recognition of the Sky-Severing Sword. ”How is it?”

”Phew.” Jian Kuang sighed in disappointment and returned the sword to him. ”This sword and I have no predestined ties, Senior.”

Just as Puyang Shangren was about to receive the Sky-Severing Sword from Jian Kuang, the sword suddenly released a strong vibration and hurtled towards someone, shocking both of them. ”Hmm?”
