Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 770: Soul Fire And Demon

After the demon extermination sword returned to his hand, Zhang Fei [5] immediately dived into the soul pond. The inside of the pond was completely dark, but he had a light element to illuminate it. The water temperature was almost freezing, but he had also often cultivated with a woman as cold as Zhang Yue, and he also had the fire element, so the temperature had no effect on him. ʼWhere is that thing? Why doesnʼt it appear anymore? Moreover, this pond is much deeper than I previously thought.ʼ

After he swam for some time, Zhang Fei [5] finally arrived at the bottom, but he did not find anything there. However, the demon extermination sword suddenly vibrated strongly and flew out of his hand, piercing through the wall in front of him and revealing a small water cave.

Since the demon extermination sword flew in there, Zhang Fei [5] immediately swam after his sword as his eyes kept looking at the map, but it didnʼt show anything inside and was only dark.

A quarter of the way through the small cave, Zhang Fei [5] began to feel a change in the water temperature as it grew warmer every time he swam forward. ʼMay! It seems that this path will lead me to the location of the Soul Fire.ʼ

[It seems so, Master. Perhaps the thing you felt earlier came from the Soul Fire, or it could also be from the wandering soul demon.]

Zhang Fei [5] gave a light nod of approval. ʼIf you say so, it is likely that the wandering soul demon is near the Soul Fire, and it might be protecting it. Although I am confident in my ability to escape, I must be really careful this time because this place is too narrow, and I will not be able to escape if that demon is as strong as Wang Yin.ʼ

[You can escape by entering the Yin-Yang Space or Training Space, but this demon aura will infect one of them and prevent your people from entering again. The second solution is to cancel your clone, Master.]

ʼYeah, youʼre right.ʼ Zhang Fei [5] immediately activated his invisibility and swam forward faster.

Zhang Fei [5] had no concern for the three quests, as his other clones could handle them, and his primary goal was to reach the caveʼs end as quickly as possible. He wanted to find the wandering soul demon and the Soul Fire as soon as possible so he could leave the Nine Hells Darkland sooner.

A few hours later, Zhang Fei [5] raised an eyebrow when he saw the light from a distance, but the light gave him an eerie feeling; even the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. ʼFuck! Even before I became a cultivator, I had never felt such fear.ʼ

ʼAs expected! This light really is coming from the Soul Fire!ʼ Before long, Zhang Fei [5] arrived at the end of the cave and immediately swam to the surface, but he arrived at a spacious underground cave. However, he was greeted by a terrifying sight because there were numerous skeletons of living creatures there, as well as drying corpses on every side of the cave.

ʼShit!ʼ Zhang Fei [5] grabbed the demon extermination sword floating by his side and held it, but he could feel fear from his sword. He then looked at a huge demon sleeping in a sitting position at the end of the cave. ʼCalm down, Heiʼan and Guangʼan. Iʼm here with you two, and I will never let you two get hurt.ʼ

The demonʼs body was transparent like a soul, and an eerie aura radiated from it, which came from the countless wandering souls that formed it. Not only that, Zhang Fei [5] could also feel the horror of the blackish-white fire floating in front of the demon, which was his target.

[Haha! You guessed right, Master! This demon is the wandering soul demon, and it protects the Soul Fire! By the way, this demon rank is a king rank, and his cultivation is at the 5-Moon Divine Manifestation Realm.]

Even though the wandering soul demon was still much stronger than him, Zhang Fei [5] felt a little relieved because it was not as strong as Wang Yin. ʼMei, the thing I absorbed earlier came from this demon, right?ʼ

[Yes, Master. Previously, the system couldnʼt detect it, but it has already given the scan results, and the thing you absorbed before was a small part of the soul that formed this wandering soul demon. According to the system scan, this demon was formed from millions of souls of those who died in this realm, and I think you can only defeat it if you absorb them all.]

ʼMillions of souls; yet this demon rank is only a king rank.ʼ Zhang Fei [5] muttered as he thought of a way to defeat the wandering soul demon, especially since it seemed to be sleeping.

[Master, this underground cave is right in the middle of this realm, and the demons are gathering above you right now. However, I have bad news for you because this place is covered by a powerful formation, and it is preventing you from opening both of your spaces, so you must act with extreme caution.]

Zhang Fei [5] frowned and gripped his sword tighter, but the wandering soul demon suddenly opened its eyes, and two tiny soul fires emerged from its eyes. ʼThis fight will be the most difficult fight for me.ʼ

Upon seeing Zhang Fei [5], the demon released its aura to instill fear in him, but he immediately countered it with his own aura and killing intent at the same time.

The wandering soul demon immediately stood up from its seat and stretched out both hands to both sides. Instantly, two bone swords shot into its hands, and it slashed both of them straight into the walls, causing those dried corpses to fall into a pile of skeletons.

*Bam... Bam...*

Zhang Fei [5] took a deep breath because the wandering soul demonʼs attack was powerful. ʼMei, is it possible to destroy the wall above me?ʼ

[Impossible, Master. The formation is too powerful; even Wang Yin and those demon emperors couldnʼt detect this place because of it.]

Zhang Fei [5] thought of escaping from the cave, but the wandering soul demon suddenly moved behind him and slashed his two bone swords at him. Fortunately, he had sharp instincts and lightning-fast reflexes, so he immediately used teleportation to avoid the attack.

The wandering soul demon immediately chased after Zhang Fei [5] with an ability almost similar to his teleportation, which shocked him. Since he became a cultivator, no living being has been able to catch up to him if he uses his teleportation, but the demon can match his speed and isnʼt afraid of his light element.

Zhang Fei [5] continued to use his teleportation to avoid the wandering soul demonʼs pursuit, but it continued to stick behind him while attacking him repeatedly, sending the skeletons in that place scattering in various directions.

*Clang... Clang...*

As they played cat and mouse, Zhang Fei [5] repeatedly countered the wandering soul demonʼs attacks, but all of its attacks were extremely hard and caused his hands to become numb.

ʼFuck!ʼ Zhang Fei [5] teleported above the water and dove straight into it, but the wandering soul demon did not chase after him and stopped at the edge, staring at him with its blackish-white eyes.

ʼWhat happened? Why isnʼt this demon chasing me?ʼ Zhang Fei [5] wondered to himself as he stared at the wandering soul demon.

[Master, it seems that the formation is blocking the wandering soul demon from leaving that underground cave.]

Meiʼs words confused Zhang Fei [5], especially since he was previously able to absorb the souls from the wandering soul demonʼs body. ʼIf thatʼs true, how could this demon have sent those souls out before?ʼ

[I donʼt have an answer for that, Master.]

Ma Kuangyu suddenly spoke into Zhang Fei [5]ʼs mind. ʼKid, you will never be able to win against this demon with your current cultivation, so you should retreat for the time being and find another way to defeat it.ʼ

ʼYeah.ʼ Zhang Fei [5] suddenly had an idea. ʼOld Ma, what do you think if I use my real body and my other clones to gang up on this demon? If we use the demon-absorbing at the same time, we can absorb those souls to weaken it.ʼ

Ma Kuangyu let out a soft sigh. ʼYou can do that, but this demon is formed from millions of wandering souls. If you absorb too much of them too quickly, they will undoubtedly affect you, and they will take over your body. By the way, I have some methods you might be able to use; would you like to hear them?ʼ

ʼPlease tell me, Old Ma.ʼ

Ma Kuangyu immediately informed Zhang Fei [5]. ʼFirst, bring that female devourer demon here, and she can help you to weaken this demon by absorbing those wandering souls. Regretfully, she was too weak because she was not a demon cultivator, and this demon could kill her easily. Second, ask that female phoenix to help you, and this demon will not dare to approach her phoenix flames. Third, your senior brother is a puppeteer, and he must have powerful puppets, so you can ask him to send some of his puppets here.ʼ

ʼCan I open the gate in this water, Mei?ʼ

[As long as you donʼt enter the underground cave, you can use the gate, Master.]

The wandering soul demon suddenly sent hundreds of wandering souls into the water to attack Zhang Fei [5], but he immediately used the demon-absorbing to absorb them, and the demon extermination sword also immediately moved to help him.

Zhang Fei [5] immediately used his light element technique, and the light winged-race shot towards the wandering soul demon. However, the demon slashed it with its two bone swords, dispelling his attack directly.

ʼFuck!ʼ Zhang Fei [5] cursed. ʼI guess I have no other choice, and Iʼll use my real body to meet Feng Yao first.ʼ

*Swoosh... Swoosh...*

Long Huang and Long Baiyun immediately moved as soon as they sensed Zhang Feiʼs presence in their kingdom. ”Do you also want to go into seclusion in this volcano?”

”No.” Zhang Fei shook his head at Long Huang. ”Iʼm facing a powerful demon right now, and I canʼt defeat it alone because itʼs too strong. Thatʼs why I came here to see Feng Yao, especially since I need her phoenix flames to defeat it.”

”Can we help you fight the demon?”

”Unfortunately, the cultivation of both of you is still below the demonʼs, with its cultivation at the 5-Moon Divine Manifestation Realm.” Zhang Feiʼs answer shocked both of them. ”Moreover, the demon is not afraid of the light element, and it can destroy my light summon, so you guys cannot help me fight him.”

*Swoosh...*

Feng Yao, who was listening to their conversation from inside the volcano, immediately flew out. She then returned to her human form and asked Zhang Fei. ”Where did you meet the demon?”

”The Nine Hells Darkland! Millions of living creatures form the wandering soul demon.”

”I see.” Feng Yao nodded in understanding. ”Let me guess, the wandering soul demon is guarding the Soul Fire, right?”

Zhang Fei nodded at her and asked. ”Can you help me with that?”

”Send me there.” Zhang Fei immediately opened the gate to the Nine Hells Darkland and brought Feng Yao into it directly.

Long Huang let out a heavy sigh after they disappeared. ”Even though I didnʼt go to that realm, I can feel the horror of that realm from here.”

”Me too.” Long Baiyun said it with a nod. ”Compared to us and all the cultivators in this realm, Zhang Feiʼs progress is truly astonishing, especially since he continues to improve himself by fighting people who are much stronger than him.”

”Letʼs go back.”

Aboard the flying artifact, Zhang Xiaolong [3] explained to Lin Moxian about the situation, which shocked his senior brother, especially his explanation regarding his clones.

Lin Moxian felt truly dizzy about his junior brother, and he felt that nothing about Zhang Xiaolong [3] was normal. He then took out a golden battle puppet. ”This puppet is my strongest battle puppet, and it is much stronger against the wandering soul demon. You can send it there now, and I will control it from here.”

”Thank you, Senior Brother.” Zhang Xiaolong [3]ʼs action of opening the gate shocked Lin Moxian again, but he immediately sent his golden battle puppet inside.

”Oh?” Lin Moxian was taken back when she saw Feng Yao with Zhang Fei through his puppet eyes. ”I didnʼt expect you to have a close relationship with the phoenix princess, Junior Brother. With my golden battle puppet and her phoenix flames, we can definitely defeat the wandering soul demon. However, avoid directly absorbing the Soul Fire, as the negative emotions of the souls that formed it taint it. Absorbing it carelessly will destroy your soul, turning you into a soulless puppet.”

Zhang Xiaolong [3] nodded at him. ”I will definitely be careful in doing so.”

.

Zhang Fei, Feng Yao, and Lin Moxianʼs golden battle puppet had already arrived at Zhang Fei [5]ʼs side. However, they did not immediately enter the underground cave, and they first formulated a strategy to deal with the wandering soul demon.

”Moxian, try using your battle puppet to distract the wandering soul demon.”

The golden battle puppet immediately entered the underground cave and lured the demon away from the edge, but it did not care about it, and its eyes continued to stare at Feng Yao and the two Zhang Feis.

”This demon is not interested in dead things.” Feng Yao then checked the surroundings of the underground cave before extending her right hand forward, and dozens of small fire phoenixes shot out from her hand before spreading to every side of the cave. The wandering soul demon was aware of its targets, so it immediately moved and destroyed them. ”Oh? This demon isnʼt afraid of my phoenix flames either, huh? It can even destroy my small fire phoenixes.”

”What do you think we should do now?” Zhang Fei asked with a gloomy expression.

Feng Yao thoughtfully looked at the wandering soul demon. ”I will use my aura to protect this area, and you can summon the rest of your clones here. Those skeletons and dried corpses are also the source of this demonʼs power, so we must destroy them first. You guys can distract this demon, and I will try to destroy those skeletons and dried corpses to weaken it.”

After Feng Yao enveloped the place with her aura, Zhang Fei immediately summoned his clones—except for Zhang Xiaolong [3]—to that place. His fourth clone sent Ru Xue and the others into the training space, especially since there was no one to protect them where they were cultivating. ”Letʼs do it now.”

Zhang Fei was the first to enter the underground cave, but the wandering soul demon immediately chased after him, and they competed in teleportation speed. After that, his four clones also entered the place to attack the demon together, and Lin Moxianʼs golden puppet also helped them, overwhelming it to repel their combined attacks.

As soon as the wandering soul demon was caught off guard, Feng Yao immediately released her phoenix flames, burning those skeletons and dried corpses.

*Roar*

The wandering demon let out an angry roar after seeing that, but its aura actually increased significantly. It glared at Feng Yao and released countless wandering souls to attack her, but the Phoenix Princess immediately enveloped her body with her phoenix flames, forcing them to retreat.

*Roar*
