Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close

When Ivy Sherwood came out of the restroom, the tide of the game seemed to have turned.

’How did Quentin Blackwood only have two cards left?’

”You lose.” Quentin Blackwood played his last two cards.

She remembered that when she’d left, Elijah Hawthorne had been dominating Quentin, giving him no room to retaliate.

Elijah Hawthorne leaned back against the sofa. ”I’m done!”

’So annoying!’

’Why do people like Quentin Blackwood even exist in this world? How does his brain even work?’

He’d initially seen from Ivy Sherwood’s expression that Quentin must have a terrible hand, so he’d played with immense confidence.

At the beginning, Quentin had indeed played very poorly. How did he suddenly turn things around toward the end?

He had underestimated his opponent and let Quentin win.

”Don’t you get tired of scheming like this all day, every day?” Elijah Hawthorne wasn’t one for such convoluted tactics.

He couldn’t stand people like Quentin who played tactically. Their minds were so devious!

”With your level of intelligence, I don’t need to scheme.” From Quentin’s tone, it was clear he didn’t take Elijah Hawthorne seriously at all.

Ivy, afraid the two would come to blows, tugged on Quentin’s sleeve, signaling for him to say a little less.

”Who are you looking down on? Weren’t you scheming from beginning to end?”

”That’s because you were overconfident. Fate did indeed give you a good hand and a great opportunity, but it didn’t give you a good brain. You thought you could beat me easily, so you got cocky right from the start. And when you saw from Ivy’s expression that my hand wasn’t good, you became even more certain of your victory and stopped taking me seriously.”

Quentin analyzed coolly. Ivy had no idea she was part of it. ’Was my expression that obvious?’

’And how did Quentin know that Elijah Hawthorne would definitely notice my expression?’

Elijah Hawthorne: ”...”

He just couldn’t stand Quentin’s roundabout methods. Elijah Hawthorne preferred a direct approach.

It was just one round of cards. A loss was a loss.

Since Elijah Hawthorne said he was done playing, Quentin stood up. ”What a shame. You don’t get to be the CEO of DG.”

Ivy: ”...”

’That was a provocation, wasn’t it? A blatant provocation. Isn’t he afraid of getting hit?’

”Let’s go,” Quentin said to Ivy.

Elijah Hawthorne watched their retreating figures, fuming. ’Did that Quentin Blackwood cheat?’

Elijah Hawthorne called his secretary. ”Get me a new girlfriend.”

The secretary broke into a sweat. ’Didn’t they just get together? It hasn’t even been a full day.’

The secretary had no choice but to find another one for Elijah Hawthorne. Elijah took one look, felt nothing, and quickly had her replaced too.

One after another, the secretary naturally chose high-quality candidates, but it was obvious Mr. Hawthorne wasn’t interested in any of them.

”Mr. Hawthorne, perhaps we should just... stop looking?”

’He’s gone through so many and isn’t satisfied with any of them. In truth, Mr. Hawthorne doesn’t want a girlfriend, he wants a substitute, doesn’t he? Someone just like Miss Sherwood.’

”No! We have to find one!”

’Even Quentin Blackwood isn’t single, so I can’t be either. He’s probably laughing at me behind my back.’

’Besides, a man like me shouldn’t have any trouble finding a girlfriend.’

The news that Elijah Hawthorne was recruiting a girlfriend spread quickly.

Many were eager to try their luck, but they were all scared away by Elijah Hawthorne himself.

The news also reached Claire Sherwood’s ears. A glint flashed in her eyes. ’Elijah Hawthorne is looking for a girlfriend?’

The corners of her lips curved up. After hearing the requirements, Claire Sherwood found it rather interesting.

She contacted Elijah Hawthorne’s secretary. With her outstanding qualities, it was impossible she wouldn’t catch his eye.

Sure enough, Claire was soon brought by the secretary to Elijah Hawthorne’s residence. The place was incredibly spacious. The real estate developers in Lustre must have made a fortune in the last two years, because a single apartment bought by one of these tycoons was worth more than what most people could earn in a lifetime.

And that was to say nothing of people like Elijah Hawthorne or the Mercer Family, who bought more than just one.

As for Quentin Blackwood’s Norhaven, it was the city’s most exclusive luxury estate.

The secretary entered. ”Mr. Hawthorne, this is the new girlfriend I found for you.”

Elijah Hawthorne was smoking a cigarette and looked up without much hope. After all, he hadn’t been satisfied with any of the recent candidates.

When he saw Claire Sherwood, Elijah Hawthorne’s pupils constricted. ”What is she doing here? Get out!”

”Mr. Hawthorne, she...”

”Don’t you understand?” The mere sight of Claire Sherwood infuriated Elijah Hawthorne.

Claire Sherwood spoke up, ”Don’t be so hasty, Mr. Hawthorne. I simply heard you were looking for a girlfriend and came to recommend myself. After all, I’m outstanding in every way.”

Claire had this confidence. She had been trained in various skills since she was a child, and she herself felt she was exceptionally talented.

Whether it was her face or her figure, both were absolutely top-tier, enough to blow away the competition.

Moreover, her professional skills were excellent. She could do anything and was in no way inferior to that woman, Ivy.

Besides, Elijah Hawthorne was said to be a very difficult person to get close to, yet even Ivy Sherwood had a good relationship with him. What kind of blessed fate did Ivy have to make so many powerful men revolve around her?

”Get out.” Elijah Hawthorne truly despised this woman. Even though he didn’t know her, he disliked everyone from the Sherwood Family except for Ivy!

Claire acted as if she hadn’t heard him and continued, ”Perhaps you don’t know me well, Mr. Hawthorne, or perhaps you don’t know if Ivy has said bad things about me to you, causing you to have a misunderstanding.”

”Allow me to introduce myself. I have a master’s degree from a prestigious overseas university and experience running my own company. Few people can compare to my looks. I can meet all of your requirements, Mr. Hawthorne. If you have any special needs or want to try anything... new, I can do it all.”

Elijah Hawthorne had lost all patience. He pulled out a gun, aimed it at Claire, and fired before she could even react.

The gunshot rang out next to her ear. Claire was completely stunned, frozen to the spot, not daring to move an inch.

The bullet grazed past her and struck an antique vase worth millions, which shattered with a loud CRASH.

If his aim had been off by just a little, the bullet would have hit her directly.

Claire had only heard rumors about this man. She never imagined he really carried a gun on him at all times and would actually fire it at a moment’s notice.

”Miss Sherwood, if you please,” the secretary said, his tone already quite polite given the situation.

’It was clear Mr. Hawthorne really disliked this woman.’

A glint flashed in Claire’s eyes. ’If Ivy Sherwood can win over this Elijah Hawthorne, I refuse to believe I can’t. I’ll just have to think of another way. There will definitely be another chance.’

After escorting Claire out, the secretary quickly returned and apologized respectfully to Elijah. ”I’m sorry, Mr. Hawthorne.”

’He had chosen the wrong person and brought her before Mr. Hawthorne.’

”You’re docked one month’s bonus. From now on, if you see this woman, you know what to do.”

”Yes, sir,” the secretary replied with the utmost respect.

”Alright, you’re dismissed.”

Elijah Hawthorne rubbed the bridge of his nose. ’Why is it so hard to find a girlfriend?’
