Rebuilding the Immortal Cultivator Clan

Chapter 42: Trial

One morning, Li Zhirui commanded a sea vessel to leave Da Rong Island, but he was not alone; Da Qing was with him.

To conserve Mana, the shipʼs speed was not fast. Of course, the speed of a sea ship was never fast, but it was large and sturdy, convenient for battles between Cultivators and Water Devils.

Dozens of miles away from Da Rong Island, Li Zhirui encountered an early Qi Cultivation-stage fish devil, and before it could react, a Water Blade materialized and split it in half, instantly turning the surrounding sea red with its blood.

”Damn it!” Li Zhiruiʼs face changed slightly as he saw this, only thinking about quickly dealing with the fish devil but forgetting that its blood would spread in the ocean, attracting some ferocious Water Devils.

Li Zhirui did not dare to linger and hurriedly increased the shipʼs speed to avoid being surrounded by Water Devils.

Not long after Li Zhirui left, a large number of Water Devils arrived at the spot, among which the strongest were two late Qi Cultivation-stage fish devils.

The emptiness of the sea made these two fish devils extremely angry. To vent their anger, or perhaps to fill their stomachs, they began turning around and devouring other fish devils.

In the chaotic slaughter, countless Water Devils died, and as more and more died, the nearby blood was so dense that it was visible to the naked eye, but no more Water Devils dared to come close.

The ability of Water Devils to seek benefits and avoid harm was much stronger than that of the human race. With such an abnormal situation, who would dare to come near?

Meanwhile, Li Zhirui had encountered trouble; the direction he left in was exactly where a late Qi Cultivation-stage fish devil happened to be.

Roar!

The fish devilʼs huge body swayed, stirring up a giant wave toward the sea vessel, while it hid under the sea, ready to strike.

”Da Qing, calm the waves!” This was Da Qingʼs first encounter with such a situation, and even with Li Zhiruiʼs reminder, it was still a beat too slow.

But in that moment of hesitation, the giant wave had already crashed heavily upon the ship. Even though Da Qing tried to compensate, the ship still got caught in the giant wave.

Li Zhirui, striving to remain calm, filled the shipʼs core with numerous Spirit Stones, activating the Defensive Spirit Light to its strongest. Together with the shipʼs inherent sturdiness, it should not be destroyed.

At that time, Da Qingʼs Spell also took effect, and the sea slowly calmed down, exposing the enormous body of the fish devil right in front of Li Zhirui.

Li Zhiruiʼs fingers fluttered like butterflies sipping nectar, and as a point of Spirit Light emerged at his fingertips, he pointed at the fish devil. The surrounding sea water, influenced by the Spell, instantly coalesced into deep blue Water Ropes, tightly binding the fish devil.

With a mighty force pulling at both ends, the seemingly breakable Water Ropes were actually extremely tough, slowly embedding into the fish devilʼs flesh and blood.

Roar!

The fish devil roared in pain, wildly thrashing about, trying to break free from the restraint of the Water Ropes.

Li Zhirui clenched his teeth. The Water Rope Skill was powerful, especially boosted by the sea, but it had a clear downside: the caster had to contend against the recipient, and the fish devilʼs frantic struggling meant that Li Zhirui could only focus on handling it and couldnʼt do anything else.

”Da Qing!” Li Zhirui shouted, ”Kill it!”

Squeak!

Although Da Qing had been practicing defensive and control Spells during this time, with Mana becoming more potent, its attack Spells had strengthened considerably.

A Water Arrow formed in an instant and, with the swiftness of lightning, plunged into the fish devilʼs head, ending its life.

”Well done!” Li Zhirui praised Da Qing and quickly controlled the Spell to haul the fish devil out of the sea, without even taking the time to slice up its body, he controlled the ship to sail away into the distance.

Along the way, Li Zhirui and Da Qing encountered a few more Water Devils, but none were as strong as the previous fish devil. Working together, the duo managed to defeat them all smoothly.

Seeing that it was getting late, Li Zhirui took Da Qing to a small deserted island to rest for the night, planning to continue their training journey the next day.

Squeak!

Da Qing called out weakly, seeming downcast and sullen.

Li Zhirui could tell at a glance that Da Qing felt guilty about the dayʼs battle. His heart warmed, and he said softly, ”Arenʼt we both fine? Plus, it was only the first time. Just donʼt make the same mistake next time.”

Chirp chirp chirp!

Da Qing quickly promised that he would definitely not make the same mistake again in the future and that he would absolutely protect Li Zhirui, never letting him fall into danger again.

”Mm, I believe you can do it!”

Afterward, Li Zhirui and Da Qing summarized the dayʼs battle, identifying existing issues and exploring solutions.

By the time the two of them finished, the sky had completely darkened, with stars and the moon scattered across it, bringing specks of light to the pitch-black night.

Li Zhirui stroked Da Qingʼs shell, which was becoming increasingly darker, and muttered, ”Why is the color of your shell getting greener and greener?”

The Qingxuan Turtle clan indeed had green shells, but Da Qingʼs color was several times more intense than his kin. If the common Qingxuan Turtle was sky blue, then Da Qing was like a dark cyan.

Li Zhirui had asked Da Qing about this before; he hadnʼt felt any discomfort in his body or experienced any enhancement, so Li Zhirui had no choice but to consider this a harmless but unhelpful mutation.

”Youʼve worked hard today; get some good rest.” Li Zhirui activated the Level 1 Thick Earth Array and set up a warning formation a bit further away before quietly closing his eyes to cultivate.

”Roar—”

About one or two hours later, Li Zhirui suddenly opened his eyes and looked towards the devil beast that had been startled by the warning formation and was roaring loudly.

He had originally thought that there were no large creatures on this small deserted island, but to his surprise, not only were there some, but there was even a Black Bear Devil in the late stages of Qi cultivation!

The Black Bear stood nine meters tall with a massive round waist; its fur stood up like steel needles, and its massive mouth was full of sharp teeth, making it look exceedingly fierce.

Li Zhiruiʼs expression immediately became extremely solemn, as the cultivation of the Bear Devil was higher than his, likely at the ninth level of Qi cultivation!

”Da Qing, Entwined Roots, trap him!” Now that the Thick Earth Array was in place and Da Qing didnʼt need to defend, he could entangle the Bear Devil as much as possible to create an opportunity for Li Zhirui to attack.

Feeling the aura emitted by the Bear Devil, a trace of fear flashed in Da Qingʼs small eyes. But remembering the promise he had just made, he roared to embolden himself and immediately activated the spell he had practiced countless times..

Thump thump thump, countless tree roots and grass roots shot up from the ground, grabbing at the Bear Devil, entwining its limbs and body.

Roar!

The Bear Devil roared at the sky, a flash of black light shimmered on its body, and an extremely fearsome strength suddenly emerged, instantly shredding a multitude of roots, which fell to the ground.

Luckily, there were many trees nearby; otherwise, with the Bear Devilʼs immense strength, it wouldnʼt take long to break free.

Meanwhile, Li Zhirui formed hand seals, but rather than casting the spell he was preparing, he activated the Green Wood Sword. A streak of green light flashed, slicing at the Bear Devilʼs neck in an instant.

Clang!

A sound like metal striking stone echoed, and not only did Li Zhiruiʼs attack fail to hurt the enemy, but the immense strength also utterly enraged the Bear Devil. Its eyes turned blood red, and with a roar, its body grew to double its size.

”This...”

A look of astonishment filled Li Zhiruiʼs eyes. Was this really a wild devil beast? How could it have a spell for enlargement!

Without daring to delay any longer, Li Zhirui immediately released the spell in his hands. Countless Pine Needles whistled through the air, aiming at the Bear Devil while it was not yet completely free from its bonds.

At the same time, a speck of green light mingled among the torrent of needles. This was the top-grade Level 1 magic artifact Pine Needle that Li Zhirui had purchased from his clan!

The needle rain might not penetrate the Bear Devilʼs hide, but the sharpness of the Pine Needle was several times that of the needle rain, and it also possessed the power to break spells. If the Bear Devil did not actively defend against it, it would certainly not be able to withstand it!
