The Strongest Urban Son-in-law

Chapter 631: Chapter 640 Rejection [First Update]

At this moment, Zhao Yebao’s expression was one of unparalleled agony, as if he had made an extremely difficult decision. His entire demeanor seemed to have aged in an instant. Zhou Mengyu, upon seeing this, felt an overwhelming sense of guilt.

”Feng, otherwise, just let it be and sign the papers,” Zhou Mengyu advised Feng with a look of helplessness in her eyes. ”As long as you are willing to annul the engagement, the Shi Family won’t pursue your troubles. Not only that, but Mr. Zhao won’t be in trouble either. Today Mr. Zhao has gotten into this mess with the Shi Family all because of you. You can’t let Mr. Zhao suffer!”

However, Ye Feng was completely unmoved, retaining an air of calm: ”I’ve said it before, there’s no way I can call off the engagement. This was an arrangement made by my father on my behalf; my word alone doesn’t count, unless my father agrees!”

Ye Feng was very resolute, not because he truly wanted to marry Zhao Xinling, but because he was not actually Ye Feng. This engagement wasn’t his; he was merely impersonating someone else. Ye Feng wasn’t the master of this affair, nor the party involved in the engagement. Why should Ye Feng make decisions on behalf of Ye Feng?

Zhao Yebao spoke earnestly, ”Feng, I understand your dilemma, but we are in modern times now. One’s own marriage is no longer something us elders can dictate. The choice is yours to make, so follow your heart. If you want to call off the engagement, you can do so by just signing here. You don’t need to consider your father’s opinion!”

Yet Ye Feng still shook his head, ”Mr. Zhao, there’s no need for further words. My position is very clear; it is absolutely impossible for me to annul the engagement. You could repeat yourself a hundred times, and my stance would remain the same!”

”Idiot!” Zhao Yebao could not help but angrily shout at Ye Feng, glaring at him: ”Feng, do you realize that I am trying to help you here? If you don’t agree, the Shi Family will definitely not let you off. When that time comes, you’ll be left with no other path but death. If you just agree, not only would you be out of trouble, but our Zhao Family could also be safe. Why won’t you see reason?”

Ye Feng scoffed, ”Mr. Zhao, if you want to break the engagement, just say it outright. Just say it loud and clear, ’I, Zhao Yebao, do not wish to keep my promise. I, Zhao Yebao, do not want to marry off my daughter to Ye Feng.’ You simply want to marry your daughter to the Shi Family and form an alliance with them. If that’s the case, I agree. There’s no problem at all!”

Upon hearing Ye Feng’s words, Zhao Yebao’s face turned extremely unsightly. Everyone knew Zhao Yebao to be a man of integrity, upright and honorable. How could he possibly do something to tarnish his own reputation?

Therefore, Zhao Yebao would absolutely not agree to what Ye Feng said. Zhao Yebao glared at Ye Feng: ”Feng, I would never do that. However, if you don’t agree, I will have no choice but to hand you over to the Shi Family. What they might do to you, I can’t say. You must understand, I cannot let the Zhao Family fall under my watch.

The lives of over two hundred people in our Zhao Family cannot be lost because of you. I’ll ask you one last time, do you agree to annul the engagement or not? If you don’t, I’ll take you to the Shi Family Master right now so they can deal with you!”

Ye Feng shook his head lightly, ”I won’t agree. Do as you please...”

Ye Feng didn’t care at all, his eyes reflecting a sense of ease.

”Good! Good! Good!” Zhao Yebao, infuriated, exclaimed three times in a row, his eyes filled with anger as he loudly said, ”If that’s how stubborn you are, then don’t regret it. If you manage to return alive from the Shi Family, my daughter will still marry you. If you can’t return alive, then don’t blame me for not keeping the promise.

Tomorrow, the Zhao Family will proceed with the wedding as planned, and we will wait for you to return. However, if you aren’t able to return from the Shi Family by seven o’clock tomorrow evening, then don’t blame us, as you failed to honor the agreement!”

Now, Zhao Yebao had made his position very clear. If Ye Feng went to the Shi Family, it would mean certain death. The wedding would go on as scheduled, but if Ye Feng failed to return alive, then Zhao Yebao wouldn’t have violated the agreement.

”Alright...” Yet, Ye Feng was still entirely unconcerned, lightly nodding in agreement to Zhao Yebao.

Zhao Yebao, seething with anger, said, ”Fine, if that’s the case, then follow the Shi Family Master and go back with them today!”

Just then, several people entered the guest room from outside. The person leading them was none other than the Shi Family Master, Shi Tianlong, along with two of the Shi Family’s servants propping up the weakened Shi Jingyuan, who had been crippled by Ye Feng.

Shi Jingyuan’s eyes were filled with a thick intent to kill, glaring fixedly at Ye Feng. If looks could kill, Shi Jingyuan’s gaze would have slain Ye Feng hundreds of times over.

Shi Tianlong addressed Zhao Yebao, ”Family Head Zhao, I overheard the entire conversation from outside. Since this young man doesn’t agree, then it means he’ll be coming back with me today, right?”

Zhao Yebao nodded, ”Indeed.” But then he turned to Ye Feng and asked one last time, ”Nephew, I’ll ask you one final time, are you willing to call off the engagement? If so, the Shi Family Master won’t target you anymore. Otherwise, they will take you away today, and your fate will be uncertain.”

”Not calling it off...” Ye Feng simply uttered two words indifferently.

Hearing Ye Feng’s reply, Shi Jingyuan, despite his frailty, was filled with excitement, ”Good, good, good! If that’s the way you want it, then it suits me just fine. Ye Feng, you fool, even if you disagree, once you’re dead, Zhao Xinling will still become my wife. I love this choice of yours, haha!”

At this moment, Shi Jingyuan was triumphantly ecstatic. Although Ye Feng had ruined his cultivation, there was nothing more hateful than taking someone’s wealth, wife, or life. Now, just thinking about being able to kill Ye Feng, take his life, and steal his fiancée made Shi Jingyuan feel incredibly gratified. Yet Ye Feng was utterly indifferent.
