Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 1528: Chapter 1508: When One Scheme Fails, Another Arises (Part 1)

”No way, no way, it’s too spicy for me, Miss Shiliu, this is so delicious, I want another serving of this tripe.” Du Yuwei naturally heard the door opening, and spoke.

He Wenyu calmly shook his head, ”Eating too much isn’t good for your health. It seems you have some guests.”

”Who? Everyone should be celebrating Old Madam’s birthday now, why would anyone come to my courtyard.” Turning around, she saw Old Madam and her entourage, immediately widened her eyes in surprise, her eyes watering, nose and lips all red as she looked at the group, full of disbelief: ”Old Madam? Dad? Mom?”

”What... are you all doing here?”

”Miss Shiliu said she wasn’t full, wanted me to get some more delicious food to taste, I asked sister to inform Old Madam.” Du Yuwei said with an innocent face, stuck her tongue out a little, tears fell as she gently wiped them away, stuck her tongue out again, ”Too spicy, a bit too much to handle, but so delicious.”

”Smelling this aroma, I’m getting hungry too, what kind of flavor is it exactly? Miss Shiliu, may I...” Old Madam looked suspiciously at the steaming pot in front of the two, but the aroma was indeed tempting.

He Wenyu paused slightly, ”That’s not a problem, but it’s better for elderly to eat less spicy...”

”No problem, no problem.” Old Madam quickly came over, Liu Ye also very tactfully handed out a set of brand new utensils to Old Madam.

Du Yuwei, under He Wenyu’s indication, poured some sauce for Old Madam, then made no further reaction.

This spicy taste truly made people sweat, He Wenyu was already sniffing against a runny nose.

After tasting a bite, Old Madam’s eyes brightened, sticking her tongue out and taking a sharp inhale, while still reaching for more food, not needing Liu Ye’s service at all, only when handling it herself did she know what she wanted to eat.

Listening to the evocative sounds, Madam Du also sighed in relief.

But looking at Du Yuwei’s obviously damp long hair, her eyes also deepened.

As a mistress of the house, unless someone directly bothers them, she tends to just let things go, not actively seeking trouble.

But now it’s clear her daughter has been schemed against, if attention wasn’t drawn to the current dining scene, it would be difficult to dissipate the previous imposing aura.

”Chun Ya, what’s going on, wasn’t it said a man entered Fifth Miss’s Rose Garden?” Du Yulan, seeing the current scene, knew it wasn’t possible to make Du Yuwei look bad anymore, so had to find a scapegoat now.

Although Chun Ya was her trusty aide, now only Chun Ya was with her, even if she wanted to blame others, it was impossible.

Chun Ya, hearing this, felt desolated.

She naturally understood the meaning of Miss’s words, knowing that no matter what explanation she gave, it would be futile.

On the contrary, helping Miss might offer a chance of survival.

As the head maid beside Du Yulan, she certainly understood the situation. Even if all evidence pointed to Du Yulan, a maid would surely be pushed forward for safeguarding appearances, she was just unfortunate to be the one.

Regardless of the reason, she couldn’t betray her Miss. Having made up her mind, she responded, ”Miss, servant truly saw a shadow entering Fifth Miss’s Rose Garden, if you don’t believe, servant can swear!”

”Oh? When? Where did you see it? From which direction did they enter the Rose Garden? What’s their height, body type, appearance? Is it male or female? Any other witnesses?” He Wenyu calmly put down his chopsticks, raised his teacup to rinse his mouth, before speaking loudly.

??? Du Yuwei was utterly dumbfounded, why was Miss Shiliu asking all these?

Chun Ya also was a bit stunned, but quickly lowered her head to respond, ”Around the time the banquet just started, from the direction of the garden, as Rose Garden is nearest, the person seemed to have a normal body shape, wore a black outfit, at that time servant was about to relieve herself, hence no other witnesses.”

”Oh? Releaving yourself? Where is the witness that saw you go? Surely you didn’t go all the way without encountering a single person or someone knowing you went to relieve yourself?” He Wenyu lazily placed the last piece of lamb into the pot, looking at Du Yuwei, ”You check this yourself, but I want to say, from when we entered till Old Madam and you all came in, no such shadow entered the courtyard.”

No one doubted the words of the cultivator, as for Cong Wei? Didn’t count as a shadow.

After all, he wasn’t wearing black.

Hearing He Wenyu’s words made Chun Ya feel bad, as she hadn’t actually gone to relieve herself at all. If someone noticed...

The people of Du Residence didn’t want such a crowd spectating, thus pretended nothing happened, and asked everyone to leave.

He Wenyu also left calmly, not caring at all what might happen to Du Yuwei next.

Seeing the existence of the secret chamber and knowing she’s familiar with such matters, there’s no need for her to worry.

With gifts prepared by Du Residence, He Wenyu and Luo Yanhai happily left without any dissatisfaction.

Cong Ying also, in the name of the host, escorted the two back to their small courtyard, holding He Wenyu’s hand, ”Miss Shiliu, thank you for bailing us out.”

”You’re welcome, tell Third Princess I’ll wait for her tomorrow.” He Wenyu calmly dismounted from the carriage with Luo Yanhai’s help, watched it leave before heaving a sigh.

”What happened?” Luo Yanhai slightly furrowed his brow, looking at He Wenyu. Wasn’t it just a meal, how did it seem like something he didn’t know occurred?

”Du Yuwei was drugged, the bad kind, I tossed water on her to help her recover.” He Wenyu shrugged, knocked on the door.

With a helpless shrug, she caught in the corner of her eye Wang Mazi and his crew squatting on the wall, was startled: ”What are you all doing here?”

Wang Mazi jumped down, looking at the two, his face full of grievance, ”Shiqi said we should enter through the front door, not climb the wall into the courtyard.”

”Makes sense.”

”But when we knocked, she said it was late, no visitors allowed.” A person beside Wang Mazi immediately followed.

”...Makes sense too.”

”But they’re actually having a barbecue now!” Instantly someone behind Wang Mazi spoke up.

The group looked wistfully towards the courtyard, but the door was tightly shut, nothing could be seen.

He Wenyu silently rolled her eyes, ”You always freeload, don’t you feel embarrassed? We eat for a day what you eat in a meal, do you know how much effort it takes to make food?”

”But the old man can eat inside...” Wang Mazi felt very wronged.

Clearly, they agreed to be friends, yet they were eating, while he was watching...

Such friends... made his heart very troubled indeed.
