Chapter 176: Chapter 140: I’m Going to Start a War (5K)

Two days passed in the blink of an eye.

Night once again enveloped the entire world.

It cycles endlessly, never changing for anyone.

In the clearing in front of the small town, the bonfire continued to burn.

Providing light and warmth for the townsmen eating dinner.

Watching them gather in groups of a dozen or so, chatting and eating.

A thought emerged in Lynn’s mind.

A large dining hall needs to be built for them.

It is still autumn, with little rain and not very cold temperatures.

As time progresses.

At most, it will be two months before winter sets in.

With wind, rain, frost, dew, and possibly even snow!

A large dining hall needs to be built to accommodate all the townsmen for dining inside.

Furthermore.

For townsmen living outside, Red Brick Houses need to be built for them.

Guards on the city walls, and townsmen mining coal and iron also need houses to shield them from wind and rain, and for wintering.

He couldn’t allow the townsmen and soldiers of the territory to freeze or fall ill due to lacking these basic structures.

It’s not worth the risk.

Just as Lynn was pondering in his mind.

Rose came toward him with brisk steps.

Rose bowed in salute, respectfully saying, ”Master, did you call for me?”

Hearing Rose’s voice, Lynn came back to his senses and glanced at him.

”Aside from the Guard Team, how many of the currently trained soldiers are qualified?”

Rose replied without much thought, ”A total of three hundred soldiers. Two hundred are capable of following orders and using the Winged Spear.”

”The remaining one hundred are still in basic physical training and order drills.”

Lynn nodded and slowly stood up, ”Select two hundred from among them whom you deem fit for training.”

Rose raised an eyebrow.

So the master called him here for military expansion!

After all the townsmen finished dinner, Lynn gathered them together.

This time.

Lynn did not give any lengthy speech, nor tried to stir emotions.

He simply told them that some people need to join the forces guarding the territory.

Because, without enough soldiers, without enough armed force.

No matter how well you farm, it’ll only become someone else’s granary.

Yet for all that.

With just a few words, Lynn got the well-fed townsmen excited and eager.

Because they understood the meaning in the Lord’s words.

Because without an armed force, they were taken and sold as slaves.

Because they knew the pain of being treated as slaves, they did not want to go through it again.

Lynn nodded in satisfaction, turning his gaze to Rose.

Rose understood at once, taking a dozen soldiers into the crowd to start selecting.

Through continuous trading with merchants, the territory indeed had a surplus of food.

But in order to expand the military and strengthen the armed forces of the territory, Lynn had to proceed step by step.

With a population of 4,500 people, seventy percent are male.

Should all the males be drafted into the army at once?

Tough jobs like mining iron and coal, or reclaiming land can’t be assigned to women, can they?

Of course, it’s not impossible.

Due to physical limitations, work efficiency would greatly decrease.

Most crucially.

With previous conditions, it was impossible to support so many townsmen in rigorous training.

If you can’t feed them, how can you think of raising an army?

Who would want to be such a soldier?

But now it’s different.

Now the territory has plenty of plantable farmland, and the warehouses are stocked with lots of food and meat.

It can fully support five hundred soldiers for rigorous training and daily consumption.

Shortly thereafter.

Two hundred soldiers were selected by Rose.

Lynn looked around, they were all robust and strong men.

Instructing the selected townsmen to wait here tomorrow morning for Instructor Ross to take them for training.

Lynn dismissed everyone, and the small town returned to leisure.

Lynn noticed that the selected soldiers were filled with joy.

While the unselected townsmen were full of disappointment and regret!

They had no resistance to being selected as soldiers.

However.

Lynn thought again, and understood.

Becoming a soldier or guard of the territory meant not having to participate in daily labor.

And with each meal, they got a pound of meat, and received a salary of one shilling per month!

With the city walls as a shield, and in times of peace...

Under such conditions, who wouldn’t be tempted?

Rose paced to stand beside Lynn, looking hesitant to speak.

Lynn spoke, ”Say what’s on your mind.”

Upon hearing this, Rose didn’t hesitate, ”Master, with the current expansion, will continuing to recruit affect...”

Lynn nodded, ”If it were before Grayson came, I certainly wouldn’t expand the army.”

”But he brought me eight hundred slaves... Expanding by just two hundred won’t affect much.”

Lynn’s original autumn plowing plan was to open forty thousand acres of farmland by the end of September.

But now, by mid-September, nearly 30,000 acres had already been reclaimed.

With eight days until the end of the month, the speed of reclamation has exceeded his expectations.

Rose nodded slightly without speaking.

Lynn continued, ”These five hundred soldiers, you need to train them quickly!”

Rose raised an eyebrow, realizing something, ”Master, you mean...”
