Unexpected Second Chance at Love

Barefoot, Yue Ling crossed the hardwood. The nightgown swayed against her knees with each step. The fabric caught the light, shifting from deep blue to black and back again.

She didn’t break his gaze.

Lu Tian shifted, one hand reaching out to meet hers as she reached the edge of the bed. His palm found her hip. Warm. Calloused at the edges. He pulled her closer, and she let herself be drawn in.

Rather than settling beside him, she climbed onto his lap, resting her knees on either side of his hips.

His brows lifted slightly.

”Someone’s affectionate tonight.”

”Am I not allowed to be?”

”You’re allowed to do whatever you want.”

Settling over his lap. The silk of her gown pooled between them. His other hand came up to rest at her waist, fingers splaying against the fabric, feeling the heat of her through it.

Yue Ling smiled and leaned forward, brushing her lips against his.

It was a brief kiss, almost teasing.

When she pulled away, Lu Tian followed her, unwilling to let her retreat so easily.

She laughed softly against his mouth.

”Impatient?”

”You’re sitting on my lap, kissing me, and asking whether I’m impatient?”

”Mm.”

”You’re being rather cruel, Mrs. Lu.”

Yue Ling slipped her arms around his neck.

”Then perhaps you should do something about it.”

The amusement in his eyes deepened.

”Are you certain?”

She answered by kissing him again.

This time, there was nothing teasing about it.

Lu Tian drew her closer, one hand spreading across her back while the other rested firmly at her waist. Their kiss grew unhurried and intimate, interrupted only when Yue Ling pulled back to catch her breath.

His lips moved and brushed her cheek, then the delicate curve beneath her ear.

She closed her eyes.

”Tian...”

”Hm?”

Her fingers tightened slightly against his shoulders.

”Don’t stop.”

He lifted his head to look at her, his expression softening.

”Tell me if you want me to.”

She nodded before drawing him into another kiss.

The knot of her robe loosened as she shifted against him, allowing the silk to slip from one shoulder. Lu Tian gently brushed the fabric aside and pressed a kiss against her bare skin.

Yue Ling tilted her head, her breath catching at the tenderness of the gesture.

For days, she had carried an uneasiness she could neither explain nor share. Tonight, she wanted nothing more than to be close to him, to lose herself for a little while in something familiar and certain.

Lu Tian seemed to understand without needing her to say it.

He held her face between his hands.

”Look at me.”

She opened her eyes.

His thumb traced her cheek.

”You don’t have to tell me what’s troubling you tonight.”

Yue Ling’s expression softened.

”I know.”

”But don’t think you have to carry it alone.”

She leaned into his palm.

”Then hold me.”

His answer was immediate.

”Always.”

He captured her lips again. His hands caressed every inch of her with gentleness.

Yue Ling drew him closer, her fingers slipping into his hair. His warmth surrounded her as he settled into a more comfortable position, and she moved with him, unwilling to put even an inch of distance between them.

The robe slipped away, forgotten at the edge of the bed.

Lu Tian paused to brush her hair from her face.

”Still alright?”

She smiled.

”More than alright.”

He returned her smile before leaning forward and capturing her lips.

Her hands found his chest—the hard planes of muscle beneath warm skin, the slight hitch in his breath as her fingertips traced downward. She watched his jaw tighten, just slightly.

Then he moved.

His hand slid from her hip to the hem of her nightgown. He gathered the silk in his fist, lifting it inch by inch. The cool air hit her thighs, then her stomach, then the curve of her ribs.

She lifted her arms, and he pulled the gown over her head in one smooth motion.

The silk fell somewhere beside them, forgotten.

Now she was bare above him, her skin flushed from the shower and from the weight of his gaze.

His eyes traveled down her body with a slowness that made her breath catch. He didn’t rush. He didn’t grab.

He looked at her like she was something he wanted to memorize.

His hands found her waist again. Thumbs tracing circles on her hip bones.

His touch was light, almost reverent. She felt the slight tremor in his fingers.

”You’re beautiful,” he said.

Not a line. Not a compliment. A fact he was stating out loud.

She leaned down, her mouth finding his. Slow. Deliberate.

Her lips parted against his, and she felt the shift in his posture, the way his hands tightened on her waist. The kiss deepened, tongues sliding together in a rhythm that was unhurried, like they had all night.

One of his hands slid up her spine. The other cupped her jaw, tilting her head, guiding the angle.

She melted into him, her fingers threading through his hair, pulling him closer.

When they broke for air, her forehead rested against his. Their breaths mingled in the small space between them.

His hands moved again.

Down her back.

Over the curve of her hip.

Across her stomach.

He explored her skin like he was reading a language only he understood.

She shifted, grinding against him through the thin fabric of his pants.

The friction made her gasp.

His response was immediate—his hips bucking upward, a low groan escaping his throat.

”Slow,” she whispered.

He nodded. His jaw was tight. His pupils had blown wide, dark and wanting.

But he slowed.

His hands found her thighs, tracing upward, thumbs brushing the inside of her legs.

Higher.

Closer to where she wanted him.

But not yet.

He teased, his touch feather-light, watching her face for every reaction.

She closed her eyes. Let herself feel.

The weight of his palms on her skin. The slight roughness of his fingertips.

The sound of her own breath, uneven, caught in her chest.

He leaned forward, pressing his lips to the hollow of her throat. Then lower.

A trail of kisses down her sternum.

Between her breasts.

His tongue flicked across one nipple, and she arched into him, her fingers gripping his shoulders.

He took his time.

Minutes stretched like hours. Every touch was deliberate.

Every kiss, every graze of his teeth, every slow circle of his thumb sent shivers across her skin.

She reached down, fingers finding the waistband of his pants.

He lifted his hips, and she pushed the fabric down, freeing him. His length pressed against her thigh, hot and hard.

Her cheeks flushed as her gaze drifted toward his hardness.

No matter how many times she had seen him like this, she never quite grew accustomed to his size.

All the courage she had just seconds ago faltered, but only for a split second.

She wrapped her hand around him and guided him to her entrance.

Not pushing. Just holding him there, feeling the heat of him against her slickness.

He pushed back a low groan and looked into her eyes.

”Ready?”

She answered by sliding down onto him, inch by inch.

The sensation was sharp and full. She gasped, her nails digging into his shoulders.

He held still, letting her adjust, his hands steadying her hips.

She began to move.

Slow at first. Rolling her hips, finding a rhythm that made stars burst behind her eyes.

His hands guided her, his thumbs pressing into her hip bones, his breath coming in ragged bursts against her neck.

”Like that,” he murmured. ”Just like that.”

The room was silent except for the sound of their bodies. The creak of the bed. The wet slide of skin against skin.

She felt the pressure building, a tightness coiling low in her belly. She rode him, her pace steady, her movements fluid.

He watched her. His eyes never left her face.

When she bit her lip, he groaned.

When she threw her head back, he thrust up into her, deeper.

”I’m close,” she breathed.

”Me too.”

His hand slid between them, fingers finding her clit. He pressed, circled, timed it with every roll of her hips.

The tension snapped. ℯℯ𝑙.

She came with a cry, her body shuddering around him, waves of sensation pulsing through her.

The sight of her—the sound, the clench—pushed him over.

He followed, burying himself deep, groaning into her shoulder as he spilled inside her.

They stayed like that. Breathless. Sticky. Wrapped in each other.

The lamp flickered.

Lu Tian’s arms tightened around her, pulling her closer.

Yue Ling just let her weight settle against him, her cheek pressed to his shoulder, her ear catching the slow thunder of his heartbeat.

The room held its breath around them.

His arms were loose around her, fingers tracing idle patterns across her shoulder blade.

The lamp cast long shadows across the ceiling.

Then she felt him stir beneath her.

Not arousal. Movement. A shift in intention.

His hands slid down her back, palms flattening against her skin. Then he gripped her waist, firm, and rolled.

She gasped as the world tilted.

The duvet bunched beneath her shoulders. The ceiling swam into view.

And then he was above her, his weight settling between her thighs, his elbows framing her head.

The shift happened so smoothly she barely registered the motion until she was looking up at him.

His hair fell forward, brushing his forehead. His chest rose and fell above her, a few inches from her own.

”We’re not done yet,” he said.

The words were quiet. Not a request.

Her thighs parted wider, inviting him closer.

He settled against her, his skin warm against her slickness.

But he didn’t enter her. Not yet.

He lowered his head.

His lips found her collarbone. Then the curve of her shoulder.

He kissed her like he was tracing a path he wanted to memorize.

Slow. Deliberate.

Each press of his mouth sent a shiver across her skin.

Her fingers found his hair, threading through the dark strands.

His hand moved down her side, thumb brushing the underside of her breast. Then lower. Across her ribs. The dip of her waist. The flare of her hip.

He took his time.

The lamp flickered again.

And all she felt was him. The weight of his body. The heat of his breath.

The way his fingers pressed into her flesh, claiming, worshipping.

He kissed her sternum. Then lower.

His lips trailed down her stomach, slow, unhurried.

She felt his breath warm against her navel. Her muscles tensed in anticipation.

He looked up at her.

His eyes were dark, pupils blown wide. His lips were parted, slightly wet.

”Tell me what you want.”

The question hung between them.

She swallowed.

”You.”

He smiled. Just a flicker. Then he lowered his head again.

His mouth found her inner thigh.

She gasped, her hips bucking instinctively. His hands pressed down, holding her steady.

He kissed the sensitive skin, teeth grazing, tongue soothing.

Then the other thigh.

He was taking his time. Deliberately. Painfully.

Her fingers twisted in the sheets.

”Tian...”

”I know.”

He murmured against her skin.

His breath ghosted over her. So close. She could feel the heat of him, the promise of his mouth. But he didn’t move closer.

He kissed her hip bone instead.

She let out a sound that was half laugh, half whimper.

”You’re torturing me.”

”I’m savoring you.”

His voice was low, rough at the edges.

He looked up at her again, and the weight of his gaze made her breath catch.

”There’s a difference.”

She reached down, her fingers finding his jaw. She pulled him up, guiding him back to her mouth.

He came willingly, his lips meeting hers in a kiss that was deep and slow.

His hand slid between them, fingers finding her entrance. He circled once, gathering the wetness. Then he pushed inside.

Just one thick finger.

She broke the kiss, her head falling back.

He watched her face as he moved, his finger sliding in and out, slow and deliberate.

Her hips rolled, meeting his rhythm.

”More,” she breathed.

He added a second finger.

The stretch made her gasp. Her nails dug into his shoulders.

He pumped slowly, curling his fingers, searching. When he found the spot, she cried out, her back arching.

”There?”

She could only nod.

He pressed again. Harder. Slower.

She felt the pressure building, a warmth spreading through her limbs. But he stopped before she could fall over the edge.

She whimpered.

He pulled his fingers out, bringing them to his mouth. He tasted her, his eyes never leaving hers.

Then he positioned himself at her entrance.

The head of him pressed against her, teasing. She was so wet she could feel him sliding against her folds. He pushed in an inch. Then pulled back.

Then pushed again, deeper this time.

Her hands found his hips, pulling him closer. He resisted, holding himself at the edge.

”Look at me.”

She did.

He entered her in one smooth motion.

The sensation was overwhelming. Fullness. Pressure. The slight burn of being stretched.

She gasped, her eyes fluttering, but she forced them to stay open.

He held still, letting her adjust.

The room was silent except for their breathing.

She could feel his pulse, or maybe it was hers. Hard to tell.

”Okay?” he asked.

She nodded.

He began to move.

Slow. Deep. Each thrust pressed him against her walls, hitting places that made stars burst behind her eyes.

He watched her face, reading every reaction. When she bit her lip, he slowed down. When she moaned, he thrust harder.

His pace was deliberate. Unhurried.

He moved as if he had nowhere else to be, like this moment was all that existed.

She wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper.

He groaned, his forehead dropping to hers.

”More.”

She whispered and he obeyed.

His rhythm shifted, faster now. The bedframe creaked in time with their movements. The sound of their bodies filled the room, wet and rhythmic.

She felt the pressure building again. Tighter this time. More intense.

She was close. So close. The tension coiled in her belly, pulling tighter with every stroke.

”Come for me.”

His voice broke something in her.

She shattered.

The orgasm ripped through her, wave after wave of sensation.

She cried out, her body arching, her nails raking down his back.

He kept moving, riding her through it, his own breathing ragged.

Then he followed.

He buried himself deep, his body shuddering. A groan escaped his throat, low and guttural.

She felt him pulse inside her, warmth flooding her core for the second time.

He collapsed against her.

His weight pressed her into the mattress. She welcomed it. Her arms wrapped around him, holding him close.

They lay there, breathless, tangled.

And when the room finally grew still, Lu Tian shifted from on top of her.

He could still feel the tightness of her wrapped around him and moved his hips slightly, intending to go another round, but seeing the exhaustion in her face, he sighed inside.

Slowly and reluctantly, he pulled out of her.

He carefully placed her head on the pillow before walking to the bathroom. He cleaned himself quickly then returned with a warm cloth to clean his wife.

Once he tossed the towel away, he returned to the bed and lay down next to her.

He gently stroked her hair.

”Goodnight, my love.”

”Mm.”

He kissed her forehead, then her lips before reaching over to extinguish the bedside lamp.

In the darkness, his arms reached for her and remained securely around her.

And for the first time that evening, the strange heaviness in Yue Ling’s chest felt a little easier to bear.
